This a look at Jeff White's French Trade Knife. A very nice representation of an 18th century trade knife that is very affordable.

I love this knife, when I got it I was worried the handle might be too short but after some testing it’s really comfortable and handles well

The blade handle transfer was also a design that left a little to be desired for me too. I decided to go with a similar trade knife by dean oliver instead.

There's a sheath with leather I don't know what's tgeir called but like spaghetti on the side cheap, might look good for what you do.

Is Lewis still about? Seems all his videos are several years old. Hope he's doing alright.

Say Heah, Yeah, I wear a large glove and my Jeff White French Trade Knife is just right because in mine it's a little longer, But mine came with a Orange Osage Handle, I got a great price on a Bark River secondary leather sheath, at DLT Trading, it's for left or right handed and it's the large. I wear it as a neck knife and I'm surprised how much I use it because it's right there. I do like your curly maple, But the Orange Osage is a much lighter color with a nice straight grain pattern and it's a strong wood. But seriously, I hope Jeff White Tempers the knife at a company like Peter's Tempering Company instead of a Torch and a Bucket of Olive Oil.

I don't know the tempering they do but i have not heard of any issues and they do sell quite a few knives so i'm sure they are ok. Never had an Osage wood handle knife before but i do like it and my in the future. I have some leather to make a sheath for it, just been lazy but i need to do it. Thanks for your comment Paulie.

Lol Steve Shaffer here at Jeff's knife shop. We quinch in a motor oil diesel fuel mix. From that we get a nice forge coloring and a Rockwell always of 58 to 60. 1095 is awsome steel for a good useable knife.

And round that corner, I didn't need to on mine, but I know what you mean especially when I really choke up.
