Great video, Jeff. Although symmetry is beautiful itself, I find the wild combs so fascinating and gorgeous. They are truly awesome creatures, those bees.

The quality of their honey production is just lovely. Can't wait to see the ninth removal from Mr. Nick's home. Maybe you should look for the wild hive that is producing all of those swarms that fall in love with Mr. Nick's house. Talk about looking for a pin in a stack of needles! Nicky sure does love having us visit and take his bees back to the abbey, and I'm positive there will be more than just 9 visits. There is no chance of finding where these bees are coming from as it is a highly populated neighborhood with lots and lots of placed for bees to hide. Regardless, we will bee back for more next year...and the next, and the next. Thank you for your blessings and for spending all your time watching our bee wrangling adventures. @@charlesmaurer6214 I was about to make the same comment. Medium frames length wise in there, probably two or three frames long, would make for easy lifting of straight comb. There are PLENTY of removals I would not handle due to the difficulty of them, those are best handled by professionals like the 628 Dirt Rooster. Me and Charlie like the easy ones. I know for certainty these bees moved into the location in April of this year as I check on the site each time I cross the bridge. The handles come from our caskets, I simply appropriated a few of them for this very purpose. If they can hold the weight of a casket, they certainly can handle the weight of a bee hive. Nice looking queen ! Fairly nice straight, frameable pieces of honeycomb ! I like being able to frame up one piece in each frame I removed a hive out of a condemned house Monday and it was demolished on Wed. Here is WV that is the only reason I would remove this time of year. It was 14 foot tall from first to almost the ceiling of the second floor and went out between floor studs 5 feet also. Another reason not to remove this time of year is they are loaded with honey and it makes a mess as you know !!! This is the same house I removed from earlier in the year. It is a duplex and this time the bees are on the other side going in exactly the same place as the others but on the other side. LOL

It does not work that way, the robbers, since they come from so many different hives, each have their own queen. Hello Hello Mr. Ed. Your knife is that a 14” . I have looked an looked for a 14” an can not find one. The longest one found is a 12” . I guess you just need to put hinges an flush mount handles on each spot so then all needed just roll back carpet lift an open . OR could just make FIVE observation hives in that room. LOL . Thanks for taking us alone . Thanks

Howdy Mr Ed from the UK. Another great video and full of giggles. Good time Charlie sure does come out with some funny lines. Do you get frustrated that Mr Nick won't fix up the house and the entry points for the bee's? I think he enjoys having you both go along and remove them. I also think he is on the lonely side and not much to look forward to. Sure did make me laugh....which door will the bee's be behind 🤣 I have seen many of the cutouts from that property whilst going over your videos. I know money isn't something we should talk about but I have a very curious mind....on the website for the Abbey and under the honey section out says that you don't always charge for removing bee's. Does that change is someone isn't listening to your advice to block up holes etc? What a beautiful hive those ladies had made. How much comb can the colony build in day 24-48 hours? Again it was exciting to watch a video that is the most up to date. Please take care on these removal jobs especially when you are on your own. Oh I almost forgot...I think Good Time Charlie is secretly a bear...as they both love their food and nap times. Love to you all and stay safe. Until next time 💜

We have accepted the fact that Nicky will not repair his house so we have happily agreed that this is going to be an annual event. Nicky is a special case, he is a former alumni of the abbey and for that reason we have never charged for a removal...but he does buy our lunch. With the right amount of bees and the right conditions, bees can build a lot of comb in a very short period of time. Thank you for your kind words, concern, and for taking the time to follow along with our bee wrangling adventures. Until the next one, God's peace Ruth. Mr. Ed

@@JeffHorchoff yourself and your team are truly special Mr Ed. Most definitely a special case with Mr Nicky. If removing the bee's and lunch means he has some company then it is most definitely not the worst thing in the world is it. Does make me chuckle that the floor has its numbered 'doors'. It truly amazes me how quickly the bee's can build the comb and the structure is so immaculate. Does the queen stop laying over the winter/colder months? If so roughly when does she do that? Also this has been intriguing me and so far I havnt come across the answer...why is it your called Mr Ed when tour name is Jeff? I think there's a story there. Anyway tume to get organised soon for yer another hospital appointment today. Stay safe Mr Ed...thanks for reading, I'll keep on watching as you'll be making more 💜

The bees clearly love that location. Why not, before you put the floorboard back down, arrange some langstroth frames in there for the next time. Then, when the bees are there again, just transfer the frames into a box. This looks like great place to get more hives.

The suggestion of placing frames inside of the joist space is one that I have considered doing for years now since it has been suggested so many times in past videos, and I agree, it would be a great thing to do. However, for whatever reasons, I simply have not acted on the idea. Who knows, I may actually get around to doing it and making the removal process just so much easier. Thanks for watching. @@JeffHorchoff lol thanks, also I've watched your videos for over a year now probably, I've commented before, just on my other youtube account. Last year, before I graduated high school, I would get to school early to sit in my car in the parking lot and watch youtube. Looked forward every friday to your videos. I wanted to do beekeeping myself and I got the opportunity when I went to Canada this summer to try it out, did a full honey harvest, from box pulling to jarring. Found out I'm minorly allergic to bees, hand and thigh swelled right up for a few weeks. I think that kind of put me off bees for a while but I'm back to watching again. Love you Mr. Ed, God bless.

Crazy question, for those repeat ones....could you get that thin plastic flexible cutting board material, staple it to the lid, and fold it down so it hangs down below the joists...so if it is stuck, it is all stuck to the lid?
@JeffHorchoff2 ай бұрын
Because the bees build their comb underneath the 2X4 material that supports the surface/lid, the comb would still tear as it was not entirely connected to the lid. It would bee nice if the would only attach the comb to the lid, but they want to also attach it to the sides for added support. Thanks for watching. God's peace Joseph. Mr. Ed

What are your thoughts on how the bees decide on the orientation of their comb?Is the majority of the bee entrances under the comb?
@JeffHorchoff2 ай бұрын
It is a great mystery to me how bees decide to orient their comb. If I were to guess I would have to say it has something to do with air flow in the hive. Because I have seen so many different types of comb configurations over the year, there could be so many different reasons why the build the way they build. Though most hive entrances are very near if not right under the comb, I have seen the entrances over 8 feet as well. One thing is for sure, bees will always keep you guessing. Thanks for watching.
