Being new to this Chanel, I have only just come across this video. What a beautiful healthy hive. You have an abundance of bees where you live which is completely different from where I am in England, South West. The bees are diminishing, the weather is really bad this last year due to the dreaded Geo- engineering weather manipulation. It's been so wet since last October and all over the UK that farmers are loosing crops, livestock and sadly the bees. What bit of honey that is available is too expensive to buy. I love the videos which help me remember how it should be..... I am catching up with the kids which are amazing and funny. Keep them coming Jeff. (Johnny Depp). 😂❤

Having two people working together and that large level working space up there really improved the safety and efficiency of the whole operation! With "world famous Mike Barry" being able to focus on the comb cut out while you vacuumed off the rest of the bees and put that comb in the cooler, it sped things up considerably. I always find it nerve wracking seeing you going all the way down a ladder with each piece of comb on the cut outs with just you and Good time Charlie. That scaffold and extra set of hands up at the point of the removal were game changers!

I wish I could show you video of the removal I did the other day. It was a two story condemned house. Normally the wall space from top floor to bottom is separated by a seal plate but not in this case. What I though was a nice 3-4 foot hive between studs ended up going 8 more feet up into the second floor. The house was really sketchy to even be in but we got it done before they come to tear it all down. I filled two bee vacs with bees from this one and two full coolers full of capped honeycomb.

"Utilizing their space"? It's all about perspective. From the beekeeper's view, I call that "How the bees optimize their hive design to be most difficult for the beekeeper to get us out!" But one thing I don't get... how do guys with good insurance use scaffolding, but us guys without insurance just use a ladder! Haha!
@JeffHorchoff3 ай бұрын
I always cringe when the space the bees occupy is greater than the space available to remove them. I agree, they make the bee wranglers life a lot harder. Question. What happens to the bees that are missed(in flight) when they come back and their home is gone?
@JeffHorchoff3 ай бұрын
The good news is that because bees are "community natured," that is by nature they need to live in a community, those bees that are left behind will eventually find another hive to call home. I guess it’s more expensive, but wouldn’t one of those hydraulic lifts have been better for that job. That’s a lot of climbing and lifting As for OSHA it only exists to create government jobs for bureaucrats that can be replaced with a piece of paper
@JeffHorchoff3 ай бұрын
A lift certainly would have made us work a lot less, but in truth, the scaffolding affords us a larger work space and ease of movement. Trust me, I am no fan of government bureaucracy...including OSHA. Thanks for watching. God's peace Larry. Mr. Ed

What happens to the robber bees that get sucked into the vac? Do they convert or get killed by the hive?
@JeffHorchoff2 ай бұрын
The robber bees that get vacuumed will become part of the hive as bees are very community oriented and will easily adapt to a new hive. However, it to many robbers are vacuumed, they will fight which is why once robbing starts I have to stop vacuuming. Great question, thanks for asking and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace. Mr. Ed

Can I ask what you use in your smoker?
@leoncarpenter9583 ай бұрын
I can't tell you what Mr Ed uses but I've been using Bee smoker fuel 100% yarn I buy on Amazon. It's a bit expensive but it starts easy and stays lit. Last weekend I helped a bee buddy do a removal and he was using wood smoker pellets..... They were hard to light but burned for a long time. He had a blow torch type lighter but it was out of fuel. He couldn't get them lit with my regular lighter so I gave him some of my yarn. That worked well. I've got some pellets coming from Amazon for if I need the smoker for longer. I've bought cooking pellets for hopefully their pleasant smoking aroma, time will tell.

Since I am a very cheap guy, and we have so many pine trees here in Louisiana, all I use is pine straw. It works great and the bees can't stand it. how much you charge ?
@JeffHorchoff3 ай бұрын
For me, the price of a removal depends on many factors so there is a vast range of prices to do the job from nothing to $700.00. However, the average charge is $300.00 but whatever the fee, it all goes to the continued support of our Abbee Honey Program here at the abbey, we receive no compensation other than knowing we have helped a homeowner and the bees as well. Does smoking make the bees die when going through the vacuum? That's what most people say so I'd love to hear your experience.

Absolutely not. Smoking bees and vacuuming bees are two unrelated issues neither has an effect on the other. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

If we did not have scaffolding we would have used a ladder, but I assure you, it is a lot safer on scaffolding than on a ladder. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
