Let’s not forget that Carl Palmer ( and ELP) were pioneers and pushing the boundaries way back in the early 70’s. Carl with his synth percussion on brilliant songs like Toccata and to reproduce that live then was just amazing. Carl is a very traditional but technical drummer and can no way be compared to the late great Neil Peart whose style was completely different. I love both drummers and it’s a disgrace that ELP have never been recognised in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! 🤷♂️

Not many drummers have that type of genre. If ELP had stayed together through the years he would have been more widely known. I remember when Rush did the last tour all of a sudden people noticed Neil P. People who never played music in their life or studied music were telling me how NP was the greatest in the world. He also was Very very good. The same when Cream was on top. @@morbidmanmusic I've been playing drums for 15+ years. And I cannot name one example where 'traditional' (mind the word) grip has an advantage. It effectively limits your left hand to the right half of your reach. Players who use it must train to overcome this limit and it only puts strain on the left arm, but has no benefits compared to matched grip. It's purely a matter of what you've gotten used to. If you look at the kits of traditional grip players, they rarely put anything important on the left hand side. Great players who use it aren't great because of it, but in spite of it.

I saw ELP 3 times and Rush twice. There were MAYBE 5% women at any of those shows!!!!! All the girls were as RnB and early Van Halen shows. The girls wanna dance. That solo was as boring as low-fat milk. BTW...Palmer has NOTHING on double bass drums. He was OK with one.

I am very happy to know that Carl Palmer is still going strong. He is one of my favorite drummers. He is among the very best, but look at his early influences: Joe Morello, Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey, Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. In this particular drum solo, I also hear Joe Morello, and especially see Buddy Rich toward the end when he was using the snare. In my opinion though, Buddy Rich, pound per pound was the world's greatest. I don't think anyone would ever accomplish what he has done.

@@Bob-nu3xe pound for pound comparision as far as technique and ability goes Lang has much more skills. In the end it doesn't matter, everything improves Lang is from a new generation which could learn from the older ones. And tastefull playing is personal

He’s using his Carl Palmer signature Venus “ piccolo” snare. I have one! Carl is the real thing. In my judgment he really is the best drummer; certainly the best drummer still alive

Yes, absolutely. Though O still give a slight nod to Bonham, Peart and Moon, I would say Carl Palmer’s place on Mount Rushmore of greatest Rock drummers is very well deserved. Honorable mention to Bill Bruford.

Respectfully, he isn't the best at all. He's average relative to players in jazz, fusion, etc. Expand those horizons. Start with one of the greatest to ever live in the video I will post, then research the thousands of more advanced players like Weckl, Colauita, Coleman, Sucherman, Borlai, Royster, Lewis, Pridgen, Chambers, Smith, etc. Start here and see how unbelievable some drummers are. - Virgil Donati Drum Solo kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYCVaHakeZeYpqc

You don't see people shootout Levon very often but I always love it when I see it. One of my all time favorites.
