This past winter (2023/2024) my wife and I spent 3 months in Ecuador, our third winter there. But this last time was my first foray into trail running and hiking (I'm a cyclist). We were in the Loja region near Malacatos for two months and I went running almost every morning, gaining so much endurance, losing weight. This awesome video brings back so many recent and good memories.

"Sometimes in trail running there's not much of either" Haha I'll have to remember that one. The landscape here feels incredibly special especially that description of the deeper greens and the lighter green vegetation due to the volcano's. I almost forget looking at these areas as well just how high the plateau they sit on actually is above sea level. Thank you for documenting so much footage and producing it for us as always.

Jeff, another beautiful film - as always :) I'll keep repeating... since I can't travel or do these types of adventures, I'm super grateful to see the world and the hiking/running trails thru your awesome work. I have my moments when I get really sad and may tear up due to current circumstances, but those moments are well worth pushing through so that I can experience the trails and the beauty through well-done films. Thank you! 🙌👏

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to suggest trying trail running in Mount Bromo, East Java, Indonesia. The landscapes are stunning, with volcanic sands, green hills, and majestic mountains. The sunrise view from the top is spectacular and worth the early effort. Bromo offers trails for all levels, from short scenic runs to challenging longer routes. It’s a great way to experience Indonesia’s natural beauty and push your limits. Give it a try - I think you'll love it!

I broke my ankle once , few years ago ( just put my foot into a Rut on the path and toppled sideways ) on a scottish Highlands Run.. miles away from The road or Help , it would have been an EMERGENCY HELICOPTER RESCUE off the Trail and to Hospital if i didnt have my poles on my backpack , i managed to use them as crutches and got myself out of trouble and back to the city , not what they were designed for but a great thing to have just in case , one of those other uses they might be used for 👍

what kind of pace do these runs usually maintain?

This one was a little slower than most given the altitude, but we always take lots of breaks to regroup and for photos. Our goal is for it to feel more like a ‘running vacation’ rather than a training camp.
