Jeffrey Hunter was devistatingly handsome and such a talented actor. I thought he was so underrated. Jeffrey was brilliant as Jesus in King of Kings. He deserved an Oscar for that performance. He was taken way too soon and his sons were still so young. I'm sure that terrible accident, on set contributed to his tragic death. Thank you for that moving tribute and I love your gorgeous Southern accent! Cheers from Australia! 💖

At the end, he had grown up into a fine man. I'm always listening to my KZbin playlists of my favorite songs. I look at comments from The Searchers, and there is no mention of Martin Pawley. You know, the Star Trek people took that pilot and cut out sections and embedded the story with the regular Star Trek in a 2 part program. I think that Spock was a carry over from the pilot. Excellent biographical sketch on the life and movie career of "Jeffrey Hunter." "Jeff" Hunter has long been one of my favorite actors. I saw him in The Searchers on the big screen at the time the movie came out. I've watched The Searchers another half dozen or more times over the years on VHS tape and later on DVDs. I also know Jeff Hunter from Red Skies of Montana. As a former resident of Missoula, and having spent over eight years in the USDA Forest Service (with half a year on a fire crew), I was and remain quite the fan of Red Skies of Montana. As a former Navy man, I also like Jeff Hunter in Sailor of the King. To this day, I've not seen a single movie with Jeffrey Hunter in it which I have not enjoyed. This man was a marvelous actor! In many ways he reminds me of another first-rate actor, Tom Selleck. These two men, like few other men, have the looks and personality that attracts most women. This is another fine piece of historical entertainment you have put together and put on KZbin, Jerry. Thank you, very much! Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.

JEFFREY HUNTER was one of my fave movie actors. It was so sad how he died. I will always cherish & remember him in his role in KING OF KINGS. He was a very handsome gentleman. RIP, Jeffrey. We, your faithful fans, love you very much!

Shame wonder if his wife ever went after that studio, I would say that explosion that went wrong was the cause of his premature death !

@@markfindlay8636 This video made the minor but unfortunate mistake of saying all the cast members of that pilot episode of Star Trek were fired/replaced. Actually, Majel Barrett (sp?), WIFE of Gene Roddenberry, had the role that would be assumed by Leonard Nimoy, she stayed on and became the nurse. She would later work on Star Trek Next Generation as Loxanna Trio's mother. On some of the various Star Trek iterations she would be the voice of the computer. As far as comments about the narration: one of my favorite actors was Richard Farnsworth and I thought that was who was doing the narration. Mr Farnsworth was a kind and gentle man with a very gentle sounding voice. The narrator should be proud to sound like the same type of gentleman.

Hunter's role in "From Hell To Eternity" was loosely based on the exploits of : Guy Louis Gabaldon, a United States Marine who, at age 18, captured or persuaded to surrender over 1,300 Japanese soldiers and civilians during the battles for Saipan and Tinian islands in 1944 during World War II. At age 12, he moved out of his home to live with the Nakano family, which was of Japanese-American heritage and whom he considered his extended family. Awards: Navy Cross, Purple Heart, Died: August 31, 2006, Old Town, FL

"From Hell to Eternity" was a very underappreciated WW2 Movie. Part in movie where he turns into a crazed killer, as REVENGE for the Samurai sword killing of his friend, seemed real. But he redems himself by his emotional breakdown, AFTER witnessing the Okinawan Japanese family (AS many others then, afraid of surrendering to Americans) - throwing themselves in suicide, over that cliff to the rocks below. This one family reminded him of the kindly Japanese mom and family that adopted and raised him, teaching him, and taught him Japanese language and culture. I was personally and deeply affected when he turned his heart to helping the Japanese people - later convinced 1300 defeated soldiers and civilians to surrender. Most blatant showing of overt, hateful racism I've ever seen, by mindless Americans, after he and his family finds out about Pearl Harbor!😣🤔😉

Marky Hursh His (Gabaldon's) feat has not been matched by any adversary that I know of, yes both Japan and Germany had skilled interrogators who did their job well, but to persuade such a large number of enemy combatants to give up and surrender still stands alone as a singular, most remarkable feat, especially given his age of only 18 years old.

@@BeachsideHank Thanks! I corrected the title now. The racism shown to him, and his adopted Japanese family at THAT one scene really got to me in the movie. Appreciate your comments. I'm a ex Vietnam era vet, and was very moved by his emotional portrayal. Thanks again. 😉

@@BeachsideHank especially with the Japanese whose attitude toward surrender was it was shameful. It boggles the mind that he could get a group that large to surrender.

Wow, I never knew what happened to Jeffrey Hunter , only that he disappeared from the screen. How tragic. He made a number of good movies besides the ones mentioned. I remember him as Frank James opposite Robert Wagner as Jesse James. Also I remember 'Sailor of the King' and his role in 'The Longest Day' , 'King of Kings' . He was a very good actor. May he rest in peace.
