A brief tutorial on How To Repair a Honda Engine Pressure jet Washer that won't start. A 1 year old GCV 190 Honda engine (on a Simpson pressure washer, also used on many Honda lawnmowers same as Troy-bilt) fails to start after sitting only a few months. This Simpson pressure washer with a Honda engine was in very good condition so an obstructed FUEL SYSTEM is most likely to blame (Ethanol). An Experienced mechanic zeros in on the problem and fixes it easily. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND when you are watching my videos: I am showing you the least expensive, quickest "backyard" methods for repairing or servicing your lawnmower. Replacing all components such as gaskets and fuel lines is always recommended when rebuilding or repairing equipment. With these videos I hope you are able to fix and repair your lawnmower yourself with minimal parts, knowledge and tools. Thank you for watching!

UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust kzbin.infoUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

This is hands-down one of the best tutorials I’ve seen on KZbin. I don’t mean just for pressure washers I’m talking about for any kind of repair remodel or what have you. You don’t waste peoples time with an overly lengthy introduction, you get right to the point. You explain things well and your subject matter is easy to understand. The results are undeniable. Thank you so very much for putting out such great content!

This was EXACTLY what I needed to do. I had let my washer sit for 2+ years unused with fuel in it and the carburetor was completely gummed up 10x worse than the one in the video, which explains why my arm felt like it was going to fall off trying to get it started! Video made the repair really easy and saved me time and money. THANK YOU!

8 years later… Thank you my friend. My Honda had been sitting for about two years. Only ran on ”Start” (horribly) and would die as soon as you set it to ”Run”. I followed your steps and with one pull like you, it started in the start portion, switched it to run and it ran like a champ and worked as advertised. I added a fuel additive to clean out the engine as I pressure washed my problems away. Will definitely start it up more often and let it run empty of fuel so that it doesn’t get stagnant. Thank you 🙏 again.

Hi I bought one exactly like this for $100 because it wasn't running right, and cleaned the carburetor and fixed. Recently found one at the local dump and same thing. People just don't want to deal with fixing things. Shut off the gas let run until it quits before putting it away saves a lot of problems. This goes for any gas engines cut the gas line put in shutoff valves on everything. Thanks for sharing.

Worked like a charm 🌟 A couple of tips some might useful: 🔹Long cylinder jet stuck inside the carburator - I just used a really thin hex key that for inside to jostle it a bit, leaned the p.washer towards me & out it came! (It was a good thing I bothered with it b/c it was definitely crudded inside. 🔹 No air compressor - I used Wd-40 & a very thin metal wire from my jewelry-making supplies to clean the elements. (Every diameter of wire can be found at Hobby Lobby or your local craft shop 😊) ~Thanks 4 the vid Jeff!

Jeff I can't thank you enough! Watched your video, followed your steps, FIRED RIGHT UP FIRST PULL! Your instructions are clear and concise and easy to follow. I used a single staple instead of a wire to clean out the nozzle of the main jet. Also, on the Honda GCV 160 it's easier to remove the soap holder (two screws) in order to reach the jet in the middle. Thanks again Jeff, you saved me time, money and frustration!!

Thanks Jeff! I just saved a trip to the small engine repair shop and some money doing this yesterday in the garage (all doors open). To everyone out there, if the float comes off, you'll probably lose the little "stick valve" (that's all I can describe it as) as I did the first time and gas was leaking everywhere, so I had to open it up all over again! But, having said that, I know exactly what to do now thanks to YOU Jeff!

My power washer wouldn't start at all. I took the carb off, sprayed carb cleaner on it, and it finally started but would only run with the choke on. every time I pushed the lever in from choke to run it would die. One thing I did not do was unscrew the main jet and pull that out. I will do that and remove the inner jet/tube as well exactly like you did. Your video is by far the BEST one out there becasue the few others I watched did not show removing the main jet at all. I was removing the carb altogether from the side of the mower and feel stupid not knowing I could have just removed the bottom of the carb pan only because I had to do that anyway after I removed the entire carb off the engine when getting to the flow. Great job on the video becaseu you are helping people whoc can take things apart but you are teaching them how to take it apart fully to removing the carb jets. Awesome job man. I was ready to chuck this thing to the curb not knowing I wasn't doing a full card clean out. Dang it. (:-).

Our 8-year old pressure washer fell in the salt water pool, and I thought it was done. We rinsed it with fresh water and let it dry for a few days, but the carburator was caked with salt water residue. I had to completely remove it to clean around the float and the valve seat. After putting everything back together, the washer sounds and works like new again. Thank you for sharing the video.

It worked! Initially, was able to get pin out previously but couldn't get the long cylinder out. Cleaned pin, put everything back together and it wouldn't start. Frustrated, I drained the gas and let it sit through the winter. Tried again today and after straightening out a large sized paper clip and pushing it through the cylinder with a little bend to it, it finally came out. Cleaned it off as instructed and put it back together and it worked on the first pull!!! For those struggling to get the pin out, try a slightly bent large paper clip and have some patience. Take the time to get that cylinder out. That was the key for me. Thanks for the helpful video instruction....sure like saving some $$$!!

After it was all back together, gas was pouring out the carburetor and I figured it must be the float stuck and took it all the way back apart. The second time I got it right and did half of my house today. Thanks again Jeff

Thank you so much for this video! Such an easy fix for my husband and I after several failed attempts at starting our once or twice-used pressure washer after it had been sitting in storage without fuel for 3 years.

Amazing video, great tutorial, and excellent instructions and tips through out every step!!! Sadly I had to take apart the entire air filter housing and carburetor to get the jets out of mine. Unit has run for over 4 years and was completely plugged.

Finally decided to pressure wash today after a multiyear break. I never took the gas out. D’oh! This video was a life saver. The brass tube had no clogging. It was just the part with the screwdriver slot that was jammed. Thank you!

This was SO helpful! I fixed it with your help! I NEVER can fix anything so I am so excited about this accomplishment! One thing that was difficult on mine was I couldn't get a screw driver in to remove the inside piece like you showed -- my model might be a little older, but I used a sewing pin and stuck it up in there are just cleared it that way and it worked for now. I would love to know how I could really take it completely apart like you did but there was no way to get a screw driver up there and it was impossible to see it either.

You are sooooo good! Thank you for posting this. My Honda pressure washer (Troy) would not start for the first time, in 10+ years. I take very good care of my tools, but I now see I have more to learn. People like you who go to the trouble (I KNOW how much work is involved!), to post 'how to fix stuff' videos will have a special place in Heaven. Thank you.

Thanks Jeff, your instructions worked perfectly on my pressure washer issue where I had left gas in it over the winter. Cranked first time! However, when I got the flow bowl off, I could not see the main jet, much less the longer cylinder. Just what appeared to be an empty aluminum tube. I continued with your instructions, added new gas, and presto. My washer is identical to the one in the video, but couldn't see/find the jet.

Jeff this BUD's for you. Had to pull the carb off [without unhooking the linkage] and took an allen wrench to get the jet out. Easy Peasy.2 pulls and fired right up. Now about this back issue I have ?

I watched your video and thought, no wayI'll get off that easy! My stepfather drained all the fuel when he winterized it summer before last. It was litterally brand new. But after putting gas in it today, I pulled on the rope til I thought I was going to fall out. I pulled the fuel bowl off and it was clean as a whistle. I pulled the jet and emulsifier out and they were spotless. Shot some WD40 in the hole and ran a piece of wire through all the holes even though they all looked wide open. I put everything back, turned on the gas, waited a few seconds for the bowl to fill, and gave it a yank. It tarted right up. I guess the WD40 chased the evil spirits out of the carb. This Honda reminds me of some of the Tecumseh carbs beck in the day. The tiniest speck of trash is all it takes.

Thanks for the WD40 trick. Not everyone has a air compressor in their home. Drained everything out and put everything back together but it wouldn't start. 6:03 is where I took the WD40 and sprayed it through there and put it back together again and it started right away. Great video and nice tip!! `

When I put my small engines up for the winter, besides getting the fuel out, I remove the spark plug and spray a good blast of WD40 in the cylinder, pull it through once, and put the plug back in. Next year, it runs on the first pull.

My Honda pressure washer is almost exactly like the video and also fairly new. It would not even try to start after many many pulls. I checked the fuel valves, spark plug, oil, water pressure... Watched Jeff's video and did exactly what you did in the video. Put it back together and it started FIRST pull! Took my less than an hour and only cost me a little gas. Now I can finish my project today!

Thank you for posting this. I have a pressure washer of this model line and it would not start, though it was brand new last fall and had worked fine in the fall. I followed your step by step instructions and the main jet and nozzle were both completely clogged, exactly like you showed. After I cleaned it and reassembled it, it worked perfectly. I have a generator which would not start after years of not being used and I found a similar video someone posted which stepped through same scenario for that carburetor. It is great when people like yourself take the time to show practical help videos. Thank you!

I was ready to disassemble my engine when I simply took off the pressure washer gun and tried again. The engine turned over with less pressure. I let it run for a little bit and then turned it off. I then connected the pressure washer gun and restarted the thing. It worked! Thankfully my situation is not as bad as the one depicted in this video.

My neighbor gave me his 3yr old Honda pressure washer because it wouldn't start. I cleaned out the carb just like you did and fresh gas and it fired right up. I offered to give it right back but he already purchased a new, higher psi Honda...lol...me thinkith he just wanted a bigger, better pressure washer. I still use that thing...purrs like a kitten

Had to pull the entire carb off to get access to the bottom but man, what an easy fix with a can of parts cleaner with a straw. My jet and tube was all sorts of gummed up. I couldn't even get it out until I used my good ol Harbor Freight pick set. Started up first pull. Thanks so much for the video!
