Lost RCS with T Mobile almost a year ago using Samsung Messages on my Flip 5 and Fold 5 upgraded to the Flip 6 and Fold 6 with still the same missing RCS, so I'm ok with Google. I've been bouncing around using it off and on for a few years now I had an excuse to go all in.

Back in July, there were several articles announcing that Samsung was phasing out their Messages app in a bid to try to help unify adoption of RCS on Android. According to Samsung, "Even if messaging apps follow the RCS standard, the availability may be limited depending on which app the other party uses. That’s why we decided to make Google Messages the common messaging platform, allowing Galaxy users to communicate more freely. This also enables a messaging app to respond to changes of the RCS standard more quickly and efficiently."

Thank you for keeping me informed. My Galaxy is on TracFone (it's like Mint; but, uses Verizon as the backbone instead of T-Mobile) and after checking I can confirm that Samsung Messages no longer has RCS. The options are still there; but, they're greyed out for me.

It appears that XFinity (Houston ,TX) still supports RCS on my S24Ultra. I am running One UI 6.1 still. Granted, some of my messages are in SMS format. Perhaps that has something to do with the recipient? (I'm new to all of this stuff....my apologies for any stupid comments I might make..)

Well, here in Sweden, EU, I connect Samsung Messages directly to the Google RCS service. In other words both Google and Samsung Messages are client apps for the same service. No carrier involved. Still Google Mesages is default, but Samsung Messages is still available.

While i dont Mind Google messages...i honestly think samsung messages and whats app is historically better UI wise...Google messages constantly feels rushed and incompetent... especially when RCS is involved. but i wouldnt feel comfortable with meta/Zuckerberg in 2025 it just all feels sketchy now....we need a New bipartisan/Encrypted RCS Messaging app at this point

@jspring86 yes like the "chat features" in the setting u press is then register for chat features and it says registration failed this stopped working after my S10+ I think I really loved using it but yea rn on S23U > S25U (hopefully) I don't have high hopes it will work on there either. It does work on Google msges but I hate the UI.

So I have been using Google Messages for years, since it was in Beta actually way back when... and to me it has just been my go-to out of using it for so long. I personally don't have an issue with it aside from the sending and receving of files. Videos I receive sometimes have no audio, and pictures I send (200mp especially), when downloaded on an iPhone, lose saturation and vibrance.

I'm a little confused about this whole RCS thing. This is only a Verizon thing in the states right? Was it Verizon or Samsung that didn't want to play ball with Google? The other way around? I have a factory unlocked S24u purchased straight from Samsung. I'm on T-Mobile. I'm also on the 1ui7 beta. Google messages works just fine for me. I hope it stays that way. I swapped in to this phone after being a pixel user for a long time. I can't imagine going backwards. Such a terrible thing for Verizon and/or Samsung to do to their customers.

I've been trying to use the Google messenger but I keep getting a message blocking notification for one person .... so I cat use it.. she thought I was mad at her and neither one of us blocked each other...I switched to Google so I can type from my computer... the only way that I can message her is to use samsung messages... why would this be happening? Hhmm, weird.. I use Samsung Messages and I still have RCS messaging and I could see "read" reports & ect. Maybe it's for Verizon users and carriers branching off of it but, I still have the app in the Galaxy Store and it don't got error messages or w/e. 🤔

I don't understand is there that many people that are not aware of this? Samsung announced this over a year ago that they would be transitioning to Google messages permanently and that Samsung messages would close in 2025. They announced that in late 2023

They did not announce that at all. They announced that they would replace Samsung Messages as the default in the US. They never said that Samsung Messages support would end at any point. I've been covering this meticulously.

I find it interesting that i just purchased a 24U and use Samsung Msgs the vs installed is 15.5.31.9 and the phone is updated. However, I had many issues transferring data from my S22U to my S24U bc Samsung failed to include Samsung Cloud on the new UI6 update. Google data transferred but not what was on my phone under Samsung. I had to try to manually xfr data. I went over my trade in time and they charged me $700 even though they were working w me and said they couldn't help and had no answers. They refuse to refund my $700 and say they have no idea if it will be fixed. There is data I still cannot transfer manually. Being a long time Samsung user for decades now ... this may be my last. I do not like Google msgs and it was set to default even though this was an unlocked phone from Samsung. I had to switch it back.
