I was talking to a friend who is still a witness just yesterday. She admitted that herself and another friend had come to the realization that their "generation" might not be that special and that they could die one day of old age. She regretted not planning better for the future financially as well.

Same. I'm 62 and raised a JW. I truly believed my loving parents when they told me not to plan for my old age because the New System would be here before that. They're both dead. Now, I'm looking at poverty in my old age. So sad. Jehovah sees us and will have mercy.

Same here. Born in, left in the 80's as a teen. Back then, the Governing Body was never mentioned. Not once in the thousands of meetings, Bible studies and conventions I was forced to attend. The new JW rebrand and the rest of it is completely alien to the old JW ways. I wonder how the old die-hards feel about this? I remember the talks beating this particular doctrine into the ground :The 1918 generation would not die before Armageddon. Guess what? They are long dead now. This is just one example of their many false narratives.

And they are not sure it's the truth anymore because the watchtower rejected my proofs of all their doctrines. They say write and send it in but they say that so they can twist and rewrite what you sent in or outright defy it. The internet gives proof that there is only 7,000 left of the remnant and that proof is 18,000 people make KZbin videos saying that they go to our invite and partake because all Christians go to heaven.

Back in 1948 my mother, who was new in the truth, was chastised by two older sisters for being pregnant. They told her it would be hard for her to be pregnant or have a new baby and go through Armageddon. She went home and cried. She never told my dad, he wasn't in the truth and he was so excited about becoming a father. Well their daughter was born in August 1948 and here she is 76 years later and no Armageddon!! Mom and Dad have been gone for many years. My mom was a baptized witness, but she was not really strict. Dad went to meetings but never got baptized. I left when I was in my early 30s and it was the best thing I ever did. Married a nice Baptist man who was a wonderful husband and gave me a great , happy life. Much better than the JW I married at age 20 and finally divorced after 15 years.

My mother is still devout, my father went for a few years in the sixties and decided he could never be good enough and so lived his life in such a way that he just didn't care because he was going to be destroyed anyway. Made our lives a living hell growing up and was the biggest narcissistic A hole you ever met. Hit on every woman he ever met, would take anybody down for a dollar with zero remorse, family included. Just died a few days ago, no family around, I'm the only family member that will attend his funeral and even i have no idea why I'm going. The rest of the family are going to sue his estate probably to make up in some small way for that pain and suffering. I personally don't want a bar of anything he has amassed. That's how much havoc just going to meetings for a few years 60 odd years ago could create within in a family.

I personally knew him when we were at Bethel, though I didn't know him well and he was in his fifties at the time he didn't seem as radical as he is in this video. Maybe he's realizing it was all a lie himself. I just spoke to my good friend yesterday who told me that maybe we will be one of the resurrected ones now. It just made my head hurt to hear it. We were the special ones the ones who grew up in the 70s and early 80s. We were the ones who were so fortunate to have born when we were, we would never have to die unless we were hurt in an accident. We were going to make it into the new system unscathed. Now it's like ug, guess that didn't work out so well, oh well still best life ever. I'm like how is it the best life ever. We gave up having children, we worked in unsafe territories knocking on empty doors, are worse having people come to the doors with guns drawn and shooting in the air over us actually happened to me. Naked men coming to the door thinking it was funny. Having dogs bite me I have been bitten 7 times. Lived in rundown mobile homes making minimum wage part-time driving beat up cars, putting 40,000 miles a year on them. Hoping everyday for the end to come because I was so miserable. @mig You are so right. All my life as a JW I was rebuked, but down, told I didn't have faith, that I was not relying on Jehovah enough, that soon I would be throwing my money in the street. That I had blood on my hands for not wanting to do more. We actually had a sister in our hall who had went through world war II, she related constantly how they did actually throw money in the street. The sister was held up to me as an example of what would happen to me. I am a naturally born saver, like I have brown hair, brown eyes I need to save. Telling me not to save it's like telling not to breathe. But I listened, I worked part-time minimum wage jobs, I saved even then as crazy as that is but hated myself for every minute of it. I was constantly put into situations where someone needed help in the hall and they were directed to me. The crazy thing was the whole time they were telling me this they themselves were working good jobs and saving one family built a custom house, they got an airstream travel trailer. But I was told keep your blinders on don't look at what others are doing look at only what Jehovah is wanting you to do. Yet I was constantly told that I was wrong for saving I was constantly shamed so much for it. Then one day listening to Clark Howard on a podcast he mentioned this man called Mr Money Mustache, at the same time I found a book in a little library we have in my city called your money or your life. They were game changers for me. I realize there is a whole world out there of people who think and save like I do. Yes maybe we are different than everyone else. But their thinking was exactly my thinking all my life. We used to pile 5 to 6 people in our Honda Civic and drive one way 70 miles turn around and go the other way then we would go to the river which was 120 miles, then we would drive to the little town and have lunch then we would start all over. The town my husband was assigned to before we were married because the need was great had 3,000 people. Never once in the 4 years did I ever work that town and service. All anyone wanted to do was drive. To someone who has the saving gene in them like I do it was beyond nauseating. We would easily put three to 400 miles a day on our car. All the wasted gas all the wasted money. Most of the time we never found anyone home. The little town we were assigned to they didn't want us there. The number one cash crop was marijuana at the time and it was illegal. They had their homemade security systems which were attack dogs and shotguns. They didn't want Jehovah's witnesses because we might report them. I've been bitten seven times, walked back to my car with a rifle pointed in my back. It was all so crazy and I felt very crazy and out of control. I had a brief chance to go to college once when I was working at a bank and I was shamed and rebuked into quitting. What good would college do me as the system was going to be here any day. That was 30 years ago. It's honestly hard not to be bitter. I know, I know, I know I keep getting told being bitter is only hurting yourself it is I agree it is only hurting myself but I look back at these people that are in the FIRE communities and think that could have been me, I didn't need to hate my life. I didn't need to live in fear. I wasn't crazy. I am honestly working on not being bitter but for right now I am.

My wife and I started studying on and off in 1973 and became JW’s in 1974. I ended up being an MS, knew “anointed” bros who’s baptism was pre 1914. We had a seminary in our territory and I was a book study assistant so we were expected to understand and explain doctrine such as their chronology and interpretations. Now apparently none of that urgency or history mean much of anything based on what I have observed. We left in 1999 just when the WWW was starting to gain traction with the masses. I remember having to learn the computer and internet for work but having to keep quiet about it at meetings. Those were crazy times as we had some brothers involved in the early days of programming and networking. We had to have secret conversations in hushed tones so we wouldn’t get in trouble with the older ones that made the rules. Today I am tapping out this reply on my iPhone and do everything online. What more could we expect from an organization that took 100 years to figure out that beards are not banned by scripture? I kick myself in the ass for accepting all of this over fifty years ago and devoting a quarter century to it.

You're not the only one, Stan. I'm fourth gen JW and was in 45 years before I woke up. When you're in. the thought of ever questioning just isn't there. When you're out, you wonder how you could be so gullible. The only ones we need to feel bad for are, not those of us that woke up "too late", but the ones that have not awakened yet, and, worse, the ones that never will.

@ I’ll be starting my twenty sixth year since leaving in a couple months. At this point it’s mostly a distant memory but I watch a lot of KZbin. Ex JW content comes up in my recommendations and I watch a few now and then. When my wife and I convinced ourselves that it was not true we stopped paying attention to religion. Before we converted to JW in 1974 I had grown up Lutheran and her Catholic. I don’t like to use labels but we both live independently from any organized religion the past twenty five years. Really, that’s the ultimate goal is for our JW time to fade into the past. I don’t think it’s good for the mental health to dwell on such a negative experience.

@@rebeljo4271 that is the negative thing about ex-JW videos. They tend to keep people engaged for years after leaving the org. We didn’t have all these videos (or KZbin) in 1999. When we left we did our best to forget about our past and go out and live our best lives. This staying engaged with WT has the potential to put me in a bad place mentally. People seem to think that it’s up to them to “save” those who are still in. I learned in the Navy to “look out for #1” and do not feel any obligation to reach out to them. I think that in the long run that’s the best approach. I’m in my mud 70’s and was in from my 20’s into my late 40’s. It took me this long to realize I have also fallen into this way of thinking because all my life i didn’t know what i wanted to be. I’ve never pushed myself because I was never pushed by him. It’s a sad reality. Thank God I have found an amazing church and I want to boost the word of God and boost myself for ALL my achievements. God is love! We gave up having children, lived on nothing to knock on empty doors, or worse have householders pull guns on us, or be bitten by dogs. To live in run down mobile homes with broken down cars putting on 40,000 miles a year telling people what William Malafront is still speeling. Oh yeah it was the best life ever 😢

The entire New Testament from Matthew through Revelation conveys the message that THEY were living in the last days and that the end was near. @@simonjusticier333 they’re saddled with early 20th century teachings that have become impossible to walk away from. The biggest thing for me was knowing professed anointed who had been baptized around 1914-1920. They had a much different understanding of their doctrines in those days. That new light thing doesn’t fly when they had tasked us with understanding all the chronology and doctrine then ignoring those things like they never happened. As someone out since 1999 the thing that stands out to me is the dumbing down and sweeping changes that were considered critical teachings. That should never happen with their core doctrines that so many have followed their entire lives. I’m not likely to ever join another religion but if I did it would require intellectual explanations of all key doctrine and complete transparency. I have nothing left to give to any belief system that doesn’t address science and known human history. Our understanding of those things is 100x more than I remember having in the 70’s.

There numbers mean nothing except the monetary amount you are worth to the GB.

On your intro alone, I must agree. My JW wife recently recorded a 30-min audio of a presentation and wanted me to listen to it and give her my thoughts. I did. Recording on my headphones, one tablet with their website-based Bible on one side and a document open on the other, I did my due diligence. There were about three little things of substance there, but that was it. I identified three misquoted Bible verses that no one would have caught - and my wife definitely did not notice. I identified efforts to dumb down definitions of words and terms (mostly "sleep," in this case) to make his main analogy work - it was a decent and poetic effort; I'd give him B+ for effort, and B- for effectiveness, honestly. But as someone who is better educated in the Bible and the WT prophecies and theology than they are, it did not seem to me to be anything more than sophistry and simple mind tricks to keep them on their toes with mass manipulation and fear-inducing tactics. As I am considering a graduate degree in anthropology, I am now considering switching my concept of thesis to cults, since I have such ample knowledge and access to them! I must think about this and read more into the subject first...

I watched a breakdown of the rest of this assembly, and Malenfant and the others really made me remember what it was like to be a PIMO witness. Sometimes lookig back at them now you wonder how they can possibly believe the things they do, and when you see this stuff, I just remember the violent cognitive dissonance and shoving down of reason and thought.

I find it really odd and strange how he is holding his cell phone while giving a talk, I grew up with them using an actual bible and turning to the scriptures. They abandoned using a hard copy bible for mobile devices, This is just a completely unrecognizable organization that can't be taken seriously.

The thing that stands out to me is their gradual change from learning and explaining doctrine to cheesy emotional appeals. All of their videos and music videos are like fluff today compared to how we had to do things like explaining their most convoluted teachings.

@@ellegee4683 true but back then there was also the disadvantage of sketchy access to information in those days. Today if I want to research a religion I can Google it on my phone. In the 70’s we had to go to a public library and try to find things with the manual filing system through what they called a card catalog.

I’m a raised in longtime exjw and I remember even as a teenager I wasn’t that impressed by the prospect of living forever. And as a man of 76, I’m even more convinced that living forever would become an immense BORE! Just imagine having to get up and use the toilet every day, cleaning oneself and one’s living quarters daily, going to some work that one finds boring every day, and all the rest of it-forever… F that!! Being dead is not painful, how one arrives at that state might be, but for most humans it’s rather quick, so what’s the problem… Life is just one big hamster wheel 😆… Just saying. And that’s even if everlasting life were a real possibility, which it is NOT!

I think the biggest reason why people stay in. It's because everybody has titles from a publisher to an elder. Everybody has some sort of title, and it makes them feel good about themselves like they're somebody

Here's something to do my friend. I'm in my 70s. I love listening to Mythvision with Derek Lambert, also Gnosticinformant with Neil Siddik? It's always really interesting where these myths come from. By the way, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater as the saying goes. I firmly believe in an afterlife, although I'm an A-theist. I'm also very interested in quantum mechanics and believe it's proving that everything is connected somehow and that there is no such thing as nothing. We go somewhere, consciousness doesn't die. I think science and belief will meet somewhere in the middle. We don't need religion, that's for sure. ❤ have a good day xjw from uk

@@julieellis2076 Maybe I gave the wrong impression. I was speaking from his point of view, but I actually agree with you. I only disbelieve the Bible’s version of things, past and future, but I also believe in life after death, in part because of the quantum mechanics you refer to! :-)

It's so sad that the rank-and-file is totally oblivious to the fact that this so-called "good news" is over 100 years old. And, by the way, the "god of this system" that has "blinded the minds of the UNBELIEVERS" (those who still refuse to believe they are in an actual cult) is the god they think they are worshipping. It's so sad.😢

Another fact that nobody talks about is that if we Google a pie chart of religions adherents world wide all of Christianity is stuck at 1/3 of the world’s population. They’ve had two thousand years to convince all those folks that adhere to other beliefs yet here we are still pretty much at square one. Religion is more dependent on geography and upbringing than knowledge and truth.

something is very insidious about telling everyone you should not strive for things in life because you just might lose them to some unexpected event. If everyone thought that way no one would be doing anything at in the whole world. Everyone would just be homeless or not work because they might lose their house and job. Why are these guys building Churches if they might burn down, if something might go wrong. What a bizarre way to see the world

He said " We're proud of the good news and of our god". Well, why was Geoffrey Jackson embarrassed to say to the ARC hearing that it would be "presumptuous" to assume JWs are the only people on earth with god's blessing? Where's the pride there? It baffles me the JWs soak up this garbage without question.😢😢

Same message, I swear, since the 70’s before 1975 Armageddon. Persecution now. Persecution then. Persecution all the time! Too depressing. Life is tough for most, up and down, JWs bring on their own persecution. Satan is their god. That’s all they focus on. The majority of people balance the good with the not-always-good and keep progressing. I honestly see JWs standing frozen in fear and time. And look at the GOOD people they have and ARE persecuting by shunning and death and CSA for years!!! Right. There is nothing new or enlightened or progressive to say anymore. He’s also jumping around subject-wise. He’s not really making sense or offering anything. Just the same old doom and gloom. Psychologically, he fears his own death and wants to take down the whole membership of WT with him. These men are quite psychotic.
