My Ex wife almost killed me. I almost bled to death. I was encouraged to “separate” because she had a serious mental illness, even allowed to get a legal divorce, but not allowed to remarry or date until I had “proof” she had slept with someone else. It’s insanity.

My ex husband was toxic as well. He would come home bragging about all the men who wanted to have sex with him. He lied constantly. I was trapped because there was only one “witness “ to his adultery and no confession. I finally got out almost 5 years ago. The last I heard is that he’s in good standing with “privileges” even though he abandoned his family🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🔥

@@deejay1216 Yes. Legally we are. If we so much as go on a date and get caught, it would be considered “immoral thoughts” because she’s not free to remarry according to them and as a result, we would both be disfellowshipped aka shunned by all friends and family. She was born and raised a JW so for her, she would be losing all her friends and all her family. And her sin? Divorcing a mentally ill, abusive man, for her health and safety. A man who was clearly being unfaithful but won’t admit it, and wasn’t caught red handed. Two years later she’s considering entering into an actual loving, healthy relationship with someone that absolutely cherishes her…she should be shunned, ignored, treated as if she were dead. I’m sure that’s what the most powerful being in the universe wants….the most fair and true god would want her to suffer and risk her life or be punished and lose her family. Keep in mind, they forbid couples to spend any time alone in the first place, so her ex was able to hide his actually personality from her or she never would have married him. He’s puts on a very good front on the surface… Oh and if her family does talk to her anyway, they would become df’d and shunned as well. Their sin? Speaking to her lol Meanwhile, the one person committing actual violent domestic abuse is allowed to remain in good standing with the JWs with no repercussions at all. It’s clown world, sorry for the rant!

The girl I’m seeing is a practicing JW. I was raised one but haven’t been going for 20 years. Anyway, she was married to a physically and mentally abusive partner. It was causing her serious health issues. She was allowed to get a legal divorce and an approved “separation” in the eyes of the JWs, but she’s not allowed to remarry or even date or be seen with a male friend until her ex remarries or admits to having sex with someone else. He’s not going to do that, because he knows that’s how to keep hurting her. So we have to hide it from the world that we hang out together for fear of her losing her family and friends (she’d be instantly disfellowshipped). They honestly expect a 29 year old woman to remain single for potentially the rest of her life, even though we aren’t designed to live alone and she wasn’t safe staying with her ex. It makes no sense. My Ex wife wasn’t a JW, so once we got divorced, she was open about new relationships so I’m technically clear to remarry lol It’s a clown show

Their obsession with stopping people having sex before marriage - and even dictating to married people what kind of sex they can have - is perverse and evil. I was raised in this cult and was a virgin when I got married. My ex wife was also raised in it also. It set us up for a disastrous marriage, because she was a depressed bisexual. It caused nothing but heartache for our son, me and even her. The idea of not having sex before marriage is deeply unhealthy - I speak from experience. How are two people to know if they are sexually compatible? And what happens when you only get to find out after entering a supposedly lifelong commitment. This cult is the epitome of Evil. It steals people's lives, it wrecks their lives, and even takes them. Thank you Lloyd for the work you're doing.
@mailill
@mailill 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe even people outside the cult need a greater awareness of sexual compatibility and different sexual orientations. i agree that the strict rules of the cult really set people up for failure and misery, and I am sorry it happened to you and your family. Yet, for some reason, even a lot of people who do have sex before marriage still end up marrying someone with whom they are not sexually compatible. When you are very much in love you just hope it will work out in the end, and sometimes it does (and also people value the importance of sex in a relationship very differently, for some it is not all that important, while for others it really is), but often it doesn't.

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes, and obviously everything you have said is correct. But let's not forget the added incentive of sexually repressed and hormone laden young people, believing that conventional Christian marriage is their only hope of fulfilling their carnal desires. Naturally they tend to want to rush into marriage and not find a truly compatible partner first. They are also isolated from mainstream society due to most people naturally expect their partner to be sexually active and available. They tend to be forced to hook up only with someone they meet at church and then hurry up to get a ring on, so they can get their rocks off. That's a stupid way to motivate a healthy long-term relationship, but should you stray from the prenuptial abstinence template, you then risk shame, guilt and stigma, to poison your mental health and cause long term trauma.

If I am not mistaken, the comparison between homosexuality and left-handedness comes from the late journalist Randy Shilts. Shilts was best known as the author of And The Band Played On, which detailed the early days of the AIDS pandemic. Shilts was certainly knowledgeable about LGBT issues (he was a gay man himself, and died of AIDS complications in 1994). However, he was not a physician or a psychologist, not an “expert” in the sense Lett seems to suggest.

As a good JW girl, I married young, so there would be no sex before I was married. What I really wanted to do was get a job, rent an apartment with another jw friend and have freedom from my parents. I was told by my parents I could only move out when I married. I was motivated to do nothing... So I married the first JW who asked me. No one thought, in my family or even myself, was he a good person. Turns out he was not a good person and was actually abusive, he had quite the temper and had been before the elders. A circuit overseer and his wife, who I was really close to, tried to warn me but it was too late by that time I was engaged. If I broke it off I would have been in trouble with the elders in my congregation. So with my inexperience on the matter of red flags and abusive men, I went ahead with the marriage. It was not a happy time in my life but it was also the catalyst that opened my eyes up and I eventually left the religion. Honestly, I could have skipped the abuse that happened in my life but it also woke me up that this religion was not right. So in a strange way I'm thankful that happened. Thinking back, it was probably the only thing that could have broke that thought of -- I would be a Jehovah's Witness for my entire life. But it does not excuse the religions policy about divorce and an abusive spouse. The sad thing is always about the woman not being a good enough wife and that's why she's abused. It's a sick religion, plain and simple.

I didn't want to sin. I wanted everything to be done honestly and above board and acceptable to Jehovah and the congregation. That's why I asked for help in finding a mate. Isn't that a lot better than just going up to every woman I see and saying hey are you single, want to court me? I'm sure I would have gotten reproved for doing that. I wanted a young woman that felt the same way as I did, wanted a marriage mate. But I was met with antagonism and rebuke. The elders spread around the congregation that I could be doing more. I was called spiritually dead and bad association. One elders wife said that I should s*** or get off the toilet. In other words do more or get out. Well, I worked up enough courage to take it upon myself to write a single JW a letter with a view to courtship. I never received a response. It would have been nice to get a reply even if just to say she wasn't interested. But like I said, what JW woman would want anything to do with me after hearing that I was spiritually dead and bad association. As it turns out, I later learned that she has since been with three worldly men. Surely I wasn't any worse than those guys.

But you might have to put in some effort to meet the right person, they usually don't magically teleport themself into your house. And you might have to risk some rejections and some awkward situations. I am sorry about your mother. That must be so difficult.

I've just found your channel and just watched this one tonight. I love how the wording of an abusive husband (partner) is always "an unbelieving husband" because as we all know, no Wittness is capable of physically abusing their mates (or sexually abusing children....in fact that is such an incapablity that in order to accuse someone of sexual abuse, you need TWO more people to say they saw it happen! My birth father was very mentally abusive to my sister (because she had a learning disability and that embarrassed him) and to my mom and on occasion he did get physical with my mom. My mom went to the elders several times and she was always told to be loyal and obedient. Even my Aunt went and pleaded with them to get involved before it got worst. My mom ended up cheating on my Dad so she could get out of the marriage. Of course, my mom was disfellowshipped. My Dad? Well, he went on to marry and become a ministerial servant.

@@Ava2969ny Well when I was young in a small congregation it seemed different, most were good people just hoping for the new system. Later when I came back 20 years later it felt different, I married a pioneer sister. She was abused by her stepfather elder but even with that I never should have married her. The bubble they live in, the blind faith, etc. was just creepy. But after watching 100's of ex-JW video's and reading the comments it is clear JW's do not have pleasant family lives. Mine was awful and I still carry the scars from it and the depression of this system dragging on is taking a toll on people. This sushi has his subject about different ways of living 1 The will of the nations 2 The will of God In faith, man and wife become 1 flesh. In faith, adultery is a serious case. Repentance and forgiveness, ways to recover. Doing the will of the nations, free will. Since Jehovah God is the Almighty, the Sovereign Ruler of the universe, and the Creator of all things, he alone has absolute, unlimited freedom.All others must move and act within the limitations of ability given them and subject themselves to his universal laws. The freedom of all of God’s creatures is therefore a relative freedom. Today, which freedom is accomplished through the nations? A wonderfull world yes!

BULL S it, let this Lett stay married to his wife if? she hits him every night and abuses him physically or mentally, I for one would NEVER stay married to any women for example only. When I was still in the organization I justified our stance on homosexuality because it was only the act that was condemned. Not the person. It was no different than a straight person who couldn't find a marriage mate not being allowed to have sex. As a single person I couldn't have sex either. While that is accurate to the official position, the nuance of it seemed to be lost on a whole lot of people. Setting aside the difference between telling someone they can't have sex right now and telling someone they can never have romantic love, there were still plenty of people who said horribly homophobic things, even within the framework of their stated position (i.e. using slurs). Friends of mine in person, elders from the platform and governing body members to the entire organization.

They are confusing thoughts, fantasies and feelings with motives which is another thing entirely. Whatching a movie featuring a robbery and hoping the criminals will get a way with it in the movie is not at all the same as beginning to plan a robbery yourself.
