I think it would be clever to cast identical twins as Jekyll and Hyde so when Confrontation rolls around, there can be an actual acted scene between Jekyll and Hyde instead of switching back and forth and when Hyde's actor says "Can't you see!? You ARE me!", Hyde's separate actor disappears and Jekyll's actor does the back and forth thing for the finale

Or they could have have one actor play dr. Jekyll and another actor play Mr. Hyde - remember, in the original novel Jekyll and Hyde have different appearances. The scene would take place in a room where Henry Jekyll is standing in front of a full-length mirror. As the song begins, Jekyll is in the room alone, but then we suddenly hear Hyde's voice and we would see the actor playing Hyde appear in the mirror's frame. At the "This one is the Nightmare that goes on" the actor steps through the mirror's frame and continues to argue/sing with Jekyll (like a classic visual interaction between a real person and a ghostly manifestation.) Then, after "..they'll never be able to separate Jekyll from Hyde!" the theatre lights would go dark and the two actors playing Jekyll and Hyde would be casted in two different colored lights (Blue for Jekyll and Red for Hyde) which would switch from one to the other as a representation of the conflict between the two opposing forces.

As an identical twin I read your wishes and for once agree, this is the perfect role for a twin couple. Most other times twins are abused in media to say the same things at the same time. I hate that, it is so cringy and frankly insulting to watch.

I love the choking sound he makes when he switches. It really does feel like he’s switching. I also love how Jekyll stands like an Angel somewhat.
@warblerab2955 Жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree. I think the choking sound distracts and takes away from the song. You don't Robert Cuccioli or Anthony Warlow doing that choking thing.

i love how jekyll sings faster, showing how scared he is i´m accustomed with the performance being more like... feral. but this is brilliant too.
@AtomizedSound3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say or relate to it being faster as being “scared”. You can do that without a faster tempo. It’s too fast and he’s struggling to keep the phrases going where it feels like it’s rushing. Just don’t like this tempo at all. This song doesn’t benefit from it
@suzannerider94604 жыл бұрын
Do you notice that Hyde and Jekyll 's voices begin to blend into each other near to the end of the song? It shows that Jekyll and Hyde are becoming one and the same person . The voice of Hyde gets stronger as the song goes along, which is meant to symbolise that Hyde is winning the battle. There's a line which goes "I am pure, YOU are Hyde!. This is meant to represent that Hyde is the true nature of mankind. It also represents Jekyll being the facade that the world wants to see. In the end, there were never two people. There were two sides of the same person.
@azathoththe3rd4 жыл бұрын
I like to imagine the potion did nothing but because jekyll belived it did what he wanted it acted like a placebo. He belived it suppressed his good side so he can act upon his sinful desires when in reality it's just him dropping his facade and being who he truly is under it all. Jekyll in inhibition while Hyde is desire.
@suzannerider94604 жыл бұрын
I think in the book, he actually kills before he becomes Hyde. He kills a little girl. I believe that the formula was a placebo that he used as an excuse to hide his murderous side. He had his demons and in the end they consumed him.

Martin Luther had a theological term for this duality within human nature: “Simul Justus et Peccator.” Very loosely translated, it means “at the same time, both saint and sinner.” I believe you are correct, there were never two people, only two conflicting natures within the same person- -saint and sinner (good and evil). With the predominance of the song “Facade” throughout the score (the song, reprise, and bits within orchestration), one sees that Jekyll has his own facade as well. In “Confrontation,” the facade is ripped off to reveal the two battling natures of one man. Excellent insight, Ernest and others!

It takes serious talent to switch between such different characters while singing so quickly, but this guy pulls it off so well.
@AtomizedSound3 жыл бұрын
Disagree, he did it but it doesn’t benefit the song or himself singing it. The phrases are to rushed and loses meaning more with him flying them.
@27ratsinatrenchcoat902 жыл бұрын
I love how pathetic Jekyll is in this version, I feel it really fits with the vibe of this song Also the slight noise of pain he makes every time he switches characters really shows that this is a fight, and that the noise getting less noticable as the song goes on shows that Hyde and Jekyll are becoming one. I just really like how he shows that Jekyll is in pain, the other versions don't seem to do this
@caitlintan494 жыл бұрын
THE LIGHTING!!! THE CONSTANT SWITCHING!!! This is a very difficult song to pull off, and Gregorio does it so well again! I love how here, compared to the previous version, it's clearer when Jekyll actually ended it all (especially since I assume the wedding scene doesn't happen in this version)
@michellemuir22494 жыл бұрын
Caitlin Tan Nope I wish it did though. I have seen bits and pieces of that particular scene. It looks really cool.
@caitlintan494 жыл бұрын
Michelle Muir I like the original wedding scene, too, though I think that'll be too morbid, considering this audience demographic. This production's take would be the best approach in avoiding showing him stabbing himself in front of an entire wedding crowd. That would be rather traumatizing. If this were a college production, it would be a little easier for them to explore those darker, more violent themes
@michellemuir22494 жыл бұрын
Caitlin Tan Your right of course. This is a high school production so they have to take into consideration their audience and how receptive they are. They also have to consider that the graphics of that scene would traumatize people. I understand why that would be saved for a college or professional version of the show!

The last time he did Hyde was definitely better. I wonder what happened? Might’ve been fatigued already or something happened to his voice or maybe it was the musical direction he was told to go but this Hyde while sinister sounding was more “Jekyll” sounding instead of more of a clear timbre difference
@dragonblast417 Жыл бұрын
I believe they should cast twins to play Jekyll and Hyde so the actor isn't winded and gasping for air and one can focus on one role instead of needing to switch every time and accidentally mixing them up, same thing with David Hasslehoff's performance
@mrksimka1159 Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure in Hasslehoff performance there's at least two instanses where he mixes voices on purpose as his own artistic choice. But it's objective opinion. But you don't even need twins there's some versions where two actors actually do an exagerated fight in this scene and it works. And I'm pretty sure they aren't twins.
