Jelena Dokic played for Serbia when she was in her prime. She was the first top 10 (even top 5) player from Serbia after Monika Seles and was a role model for next generation of Serbian players who really made it big - Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic and of course Novak Djokovic. Unfortunately she had bad relationship with her father-coach and a lot of psychological problems.

And she played in the hardest times possible while Yugoslavia was under heavy sanctions. In fact she was the only sportperson who could represent that country in 1991-1995 period. So yeah, she was a major role model for young people in that country. I don't know what the fact that she comes from ethnic Hungarian familiy has to do with anything. Serbia has a lot of ethnic minorities. By that logic Americans, Australians, Canadians etc. don't even exist since they are originally all "ethnically" something else.
