Highland Cathedral was played at my Mum's Funeral. My mum was born in Canada then moved to Scotland when she was 4 after her mum died. Then married my dad who is frm Northern Ireland and moved there

I am not Scottish but have always loved the sound of the pipes even more so after my last posting in the RAF was RAF Leuchars where every parade had the station pipeband leading it . To march to the sound of the pipes is something that will live with me for ever .

So sorry for your loss. My mum passed away at Christmas and she loved this tune we are playing for her funeral on the 6th Jan. My husband and brother will pipe Amazing Grace. We had HC at our wedding. May your mum and mine rest in peace x

The trumpets add to the end crescendo- even the lead piper had a wry smile on his face after they had started. I agree the hair stands up on the back of my neck re this tune. Andre Rieu has used this in his concerts and a fair few of the audience were in tears - it’s magical.

It is in fact a German tune written by two in Berlin. To me it holds double memories as I lived in Berlin and it was also the Regt tune played by my Sqn Pipes and Drums. UBIQUE

Absolutely love this. Composed by 2 German musicians, Ulrich Roever and Michael Korbin 1982 for Highland Games in Germany. Scotland has claimed it now. It is incidentally a favourite wedding and funeral tune!

Betrachtet man die Würde und den Anmut des Dirigenten und sein Verständnis da vorne zu stehen, in Verantwortung über die Musiker und dieses Musikstück- weiss man, dass ihm eine unglaublich perfekte Darbietung gelungen ist. Und das Lächeln vom Drummer William Bell zum Schluss bestätigt dies, wo er wahrscheinlich denkt: "Highland Chathedral" hat noch nie jemand besser gespielt, als wir gerade eben"! Auch mir kommen die Tränen und die Gänshaut, passend zum heutigen Weihnachtsabend !? 2016 will ich endlich so ein Tattoo live miterleben !
