Divide and rule has been around since the dawn of agriculture. With agriculture came surplus and then came the need to protect that surplus. Hence the military and religion. The system has never had an interest in a harmonious society, the system needs a police force and for them to exist they need a criminal class and there is nothing like child abuse to create a criminal and who are some of the greatest child abusers? Religious organisations and all of the institutions set up as guardians of children. They have perfected the template over 10,000 years of 'civilisation'. I think it is time for an un-civilisation. Look at the word itself, 'isation.' Even the word 'civilisation' suggests brainwashing.

I'd say it was more rhetoric than him being literal. My understanding (based on what you've said) is that what he's saying is "hey I've put effort and time into this spoken word thing, could I have some money so I can keep doing this and not have to work a low pay job in order to survive". You are justified in being offended though.
