What happens when you try to recreate an image of a beautiful modern swimming pool, into a big jello-filled cake? Watch this video and you'll find out!!
Spoiler alert, I made this cake during one of the most humid weeks of the year, and cake decorating friends, you know what that means...lots of melting, lots of stress and lots of improvising. Humidity really is our enemy. I have sooooooo much respect and admiration for all you cake decorators who live in climates that are humid year round. How do you do it?!!!
While this cake was a challenge, as you'll see in this episode,I love showing you all the challenges I experience in my cake making so that you can see also that most creativity happens during times of challenge. I hope this inspires you to not get discouraged and always keep trying and pivoting. I've been cake decorating for 27 years and to this day still experience cake challenges that require creative problem solving - so don't get discouraged when this happens to you. It happens to me and all of us...and truthfully that's where some of the magic happens!

I've been at this a loooong time but when I make a cake it's usually an original and something I've never done before so it's always new and there's lots of experimentation so things can go wrong, and that's ok! Wow this cake def gets the silver! I love it it's so cute.i would have put a little tray for the jello to sit on in the cake or mold it then inserted it with great difficulty! Essentially u could have waited for the jello to cool enough where it wasn't going to melt it so much. Silver for the win great job!!

I think it's important to show the experimentation process . When you're trying something new for the first time, there's often trial and error. That's ok and normal. I think what threw me off a little was feeling rushed and the humidity!! 😂

Should have covered the inside of the cake with white chocolate. It hardens and prevents the jelly from leaking into the cake. Lovely cake though.

Despite the hiccups, the cake looks fabulous. I am not a cake decorator so this thought might be off the wall - could you not have poured your gelatin into an appropriately sized pan, let it set, cut it to size and then dropped it into the pool?

I think if you had used white chocolate to line the pool it might have worked. Because I've seen people make those diorama mountains and ocean cakes before and they always put a coat of chocolate on the cake where the Jello would be touching. Just a thought. 🤷😂

Maybe for the next pool cake that you’re definitely not going to make, you could kind of seal the gum paste with piping gel and then pour the gelatin in. But we’ll never know because this was the last ever pool cake. Dissolved gum paste leakage aside, the cake looks gorgeous! I initially thought it was going to be way worse, like when you opened the fridge the next day all of the jello would have leaked under the cake and all over the fridge kind of worse.

Beautiful Cake! I used jello for water in a cake and It worked best when I let the jello cool before I poured it onto my cake. I just used buttercream and it worked fine. I first tried pouring it warm and it absorbed into the cake but once I let it cool down but still liquid it turned out great.

Hey There I’m a intermediate learner in Cake decorating. I would like to share how i learnt to make the jello cake. I hope it helps. You can use white chocolate ganache & let it firm up. Make the jello mixture and let it cool down a little bit, just before the jello starts to set add it to the pool. And let it set. I used Agar Agar. That wouldn’t require the fridge to set. It will set in room temperature. Hope this helps ❤️❤️

Turned out great! Tastier than piping gel right?! I found using ganache to coat cakes for a jello water works well. I don't know who invented it but glad they did. Thanks for sharing how it really is when trying something new. I'm glad to know I'm not alone lol I learned the hard way that jello and fondant don't do well together. My fondant sea turtle was melting in the ocean jello. Love your creative designs Yo🙂
