so heres some london and uk stuff off the top of my head 1. the tube in the summer whenever there’s a heatwave is a basically like being microwaved 2. the weather is SOOO inconsistent 😭 but tbh everyone already knew that 3. there’s no home depot in the uk, our equivalent would be b&q 4. omg ur probably gonna get acquainted with our british supermarkets, like tesco asda lidl and aldi, don’t shop at waitrose its just expensive 😭 5. the national dish of the uk is chicken tikka masala 6. a lot of museums in London are free to enter! i think u just need to book a time slot for some of them 7. london bridge isn’t the one that splits in two, that’s tower bridge yeahhh these were pretty random and I hope u survive London 😭 jokes aside it’s not THATTT bad (I’m just being delulu) but I hope u have a great time while ur here!

Hope you have an amazing time, but just to let you know - from a British person - London is not representative of the rest of England. It's about as representative as downtown Manhattan is to the rest of the U.S. People are much friendlier and it's much more scenic outside of London. When you get a chance, please try and visit some other cities, towns and the coast to get the full experience. There are definitely much nicer places to visit and live.

@@lvesng-co2lm Glasgow/Strathclyde universities are great, especially the latter, for International students. Glasgow really isn’t that rough, was there last month - am even thinking of moving there! … great food and music scene … Edinburgh is heaps more touristy, expensive and somewhat elitist imo, and you can always visit from Glasgow! I think Glasgow gives off place to live vibes and Edinburgh place to visit. But … it really depends on what degree you want to do! Find that first and work from there … (I am a Programme Director for pre-Masters courses for International students seeking entry to UK universities, btw) One thing to remember is it rains a LOT 😂

@@Ghostlove92Kat ur best bet is to move over and be on a really good part time job and THEN look for your job job. area/event jobs pay a hood amount. that’s what a lot of my coworkers have done and moved into flats with third year uni students till they find a new place bc the rent’s usually cheaper. or an airbnb for months at a time. i don’t know what field your work is in but a lot of the job finding happens through in person networking events. hope this helped !!

Welcome to London! I’m a Vancouverite and moved here 8 years ago 😊 I lived in Islington so highly rate that area. You may want to look at North London or West London, as most of the places you showed were East or South. King’s Cross area is okay, very hectic! But centrally located. I just returned from London. Before arriving I had heard about how expensive the black cabs are, so I took the underground but had to take two lines. The amount of walking with luggage plus the second line had no elevators (lifts) so getting luggage up the stairs was a nightmare. So maybe the cab was worth it.

Anyone planning to visit London...cabs are the most expensive option to get from the airport to your destination. Plenty of cheaper alternatives.

Using the trains can be annoying sometimes, cos they go on strike so often. There are replacement buses and just buses in general. And now there's uber boat 😂😂. When u tap in and out use the same card and mode. (if unused apple pay to tap in use apple pay to tap out- don't switch to ur physical card). If u use transport a lot then a railway card by TfL or city mapper may be a cost effective way to pay for ur journeys. Queue up, we do like to queue and cutting is a big disrespect. Recent surge of pickpocketers so be careful with your phone especially. People are advised not to walk with your phone out.

also, the fact that you thought everyone takes the black cabs makes me feel like i should leave some tips 😂 - train charges by what zones. so if you travel from zone 3 to zone 2 it’s abt £1.80, but go between zone 3 - zone 1 and it’ll cost more. - don’t use an umbrella when it rains. there’s no point bc of the wind 😭 - East lnd and south are weird areas but fun! west is posh. north… we don’t talk about north. - DEAR GOD PLEASE KEEP YOUR PHONE IN YOUR SLEEVE OR INSIDE POCKETS! there’s people on bikes that roll pass n snatch them. - drinking wise, spoons is the most affordable pub chain - and most importantly. get a tescos club card. get all the grocerie shop club cards tbh. turns a meal deal from almost £4 to £3.40

Never have I heard the phrase “flat touring” before 😂 flat hunting yes, I think touring is more Canadian/American maybe. But good luck, flat hunting in London is sooo tough and expensive rn (which partly led to me moving to Europe). The Canadian number probably isn’t the problem, there’s just probably 100 other people applying as well and someone probably already offering over the asking price and offering a year of rent in advance that they are more interested in

in december after my fall semester ended I had two days to decide if I wanted to leave my school, state, hometown to leave for a school 10 hours away and I was completely unsure. I decided to just go for it and had no place to live, no plans, and only soccer making me want to go. I decided to go and drove 10 hrs and got to my school with nowhere to live. I also had no luck with finding an apartment so I was in a hotel for a few days. the school finally told me there was one women’s room left on campus so I took it. Sometimes you have to make spontaneous decisions to better yourself and I feel like I would’ve regretted it if I didn’t come here. I feel like being 19 almost 20 there is so much to learn and experience so I hope to follow in your footsteps, and travel, learn new cultures, be present in life and just challenge myself constantly. change is scary but necessary. wishing you the best with your time in London, no matter what happens just know you made the right decision with the right reasons. so enjoy your time!! 🏙️

Hi Jen! Did you know that many Asian people get drunk faster? It's because they have less of the enzyme that breaks down alcohol (aldehyde dehydrogenase). People from other ethnicities can have the same thing, but it's very common in east Asian peeps. So, I don't know if you have those genes girl, but do not feel obligated to drink as much as the Brits!
