I have had steroids topically and oral, injection for not only eczema but eye inflammation. March 2024 I turned beet red in different parts of my body . I had,all the symptoms of steroid withdrawal. My eyes had healed. No steroids since march 24. I was given loading dose of Dupixent. Cleared skin totally for 6 weeks. Symptoms came roaring back . I saw Dr Myles study on your show Although not peer reviewed I started Berberine and saw dermatologist who offered me steroids . I refused. Found a new dermatology doctor reviewed non peer reviewed study and agreed to give me script for Metformin. So much better. She had lab work done and gave me 11 refills. We understand the med is not a cure but it definitely helps quiet the symptoms.

@jenfugo no, and it's very interesting to hear the biological mechanisms. I've been prescribed topical steroids since I was 10 weeks old (I checked my medical records!!) and that was back in 1985. Tbf I've been told my eczema was very severe as a baby. I've tried loads of different things in my time. I'm now pushing 40 and have just been prescribed Dupilumab - first injection was just 11 days ago. So obviously this is of huge personal interest to me! His analogy of the fire bombed village was a bit alarming! But then reassuring to know how low topical absorption is (it's a while since I was given oral steroids). Very interesting also to hear that the drugs affect different cells differently and that they've been doing research on cell cultures more than people - hopefully the new research will bring good info about further treatments. Your channel has been great for me to hear from people like this chap, and some of your previous guests - it's just really good for me to hear specialists talk like this. I love that you link the papers too! I've read some scientific papers on this kind of thing over the years and whilst it's mostly over my head (I did a bit of cell microbiology at uni, but nothing that comes close to helping me understand things fully), I can follow some and so being pointed to relevant papers is just fab.
