I was a theater projectionist when this came out. Back then, Michael Bay wasn't a known quantity, so this film was coming out of nowhere. Back then, films came in canisters, about 4 reels you assembled back to front. So, my first splice I held to the light was a frame showing a huge fucking explosion! Right then I got super excited to see this movie. It didn't disappoint.

I used to have the cassette tape (yes, I'm old) of the "Bad Boys" movie soundtrack in 1995, when the film was released, and I loved it! This first movie is still my favorite of the series, even though it had a lower budget. Sometimes less is more. Great reaction, Jen!! I hope you'll react to the sequels in the near future. 😊
@md_vandenberg7 ай бұрын
The gun the bad guy pulled out at the end was COP 357 Derringer. "COP" stands for Compact Off-Duty Pistol and was marketed towards peace officers as a backup gun. The gun breaks open (pivots) exposing the four chambers, allowing for loading/unloading. Pulling the trigger fires one round at a time. It didn't sell well. For not much more size and weight, you could just carry a revolver in .38 Special/.357 Magnum and have two more shots. Also, the bad guy was driving a Shelby Cobra 427 (replica). A real Shelby Cobra would have been worth about $500,000 at the time. If the name "Shelby" sounds familiar, it's because you already watched Ford vs Ferrari.

Joe Pantoliano (Joey Pants) is so funny yelling at Will and Martin. His anger is great 🤬 He's a fun angry police captain, but when he gets mad I always think of his role in Risky Business 🤣🤣🤣 He's great in so much stuff, but I gotta recommend him in Bound, with Gina Gershon and Jennkfer Tilly. It's a tense crime noir 😎

@@theaikidoka The Wachowskis had gone to a studio with the script for "The Matrix" but the studio was nervous about putting soo much money up for novice directors, so they filmed bound as a way to show some of their style and that they could make a movie well. Sorry, HARD disagree. The first two are fun, ridiculous excuses for banter and explosions. You’re correct about the script, Jen! The script was originally written for Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz, and you’re correct that a lot of the conversation scenes between Smith and Lawrence were improvised due to Bay not liking the script so allowed their comedic personalities to shine through. I hope you watch the rest of the Bad Boys movies (2 is my favorite and is definitely the epitome of Michael Bay’s style of ridiculous action, childish humor, and insane set pieces that defy normal narrative conventions. I am a huge Michael Bay fan, and will always recommend people see his first three films (Bad Boys, The Rock, and Armageddon). Pearl Harbor is definitely not good because the script and scope did not match Bay’s style of filmmaking (although the actual Pearl Harbor attack sequence is amazing). The Island, the first Transformers, Pain & Gain and Ambulance are absolute recommends from me. There’s no Director right now in Hollywood that I feel can command the action blockbuster void we have now in entertainment landscape, especially the way he films and constructs his movies. He’s truly a one of a kind. I don’t care for his Transformers films because I feel they inhibit what I love about Bay but they are the most successful and popular movies from him so if you want to go down that franchise rabbit hole, it’ll be a blast to see you reactt to them. :)

From the producers of Beverly Hiils Cop and Top Gun. Michael Bay's directorial film debut following music videos/commercials. Originally written for Dana Carvey & Jon Lovitz of Saturday Night Live (crazy). The movie itself is named after the song of the same name from the reggae group, Inner Circle. Became a single from 1987 and the theme of the COPS tv series (1989-2019). Since the mid-1980s, Martin Lawrence did comedy, Will Smith did rap since and both had hit tv series in the 1990s. Each was a star in their own right. Lawrence was the bigger film star and got the call for starring in Bad Boys. He was asked if there was anyone he knew who could share the screen/top billing with him and he chose Will. The film's success would be enormous, also raising Will's career in becoming a major box office draw and movie star. Spring 1995. Martin & Will as polar opposites with Comic timing, catchy lines, awesome action, very good camerawork. Loved Joe Pantoliano as Capt. Howard, always stressed or mad with Mike & Marcus. The female lead, Tea Leoni (Madam Secretary) was so hot and funny, legs for days. Part 2 (2003) was very good, Part 3 (Bad Boys For Life, 2020) was a real long time coming and worth it. The recent "Bad Boys:Ride or Die" is fantastic. Altogether $1 Billion worldwide. One of the best Buddy Cop series ever.

Entertaining reaction as always! Bad Boys is not a high quality move, but it's an awful lot of over-the-top fun. Of course, the movie only works because of the fantastic chemistry between Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. They are so good together. Bad Boys as a franchise also manages something that most franchises fail at: sequels made quite a long time after the previous movie that are just as much (or even more) fun (1995, 2003, 2020). I would definitely recommend watching Bad Boys 2 and bad Boys for Life at some point as well. I haven't seen the new one yet, but hoping it's up there as well.
