This might sound stupid or come out the wrong way but I always watch previous podcast episodes when I go to bed and sometimes they help me fall asleep, especially when I have insomnia. So thanks for being entertaining and funny and a distraction from life’s problems but also for having a great, fun, chill podcast. College instructor here (but not the one who wrote the comment.) I've noticed that having a "phone break" cuts down on phone usage during class. So after every 30-45 minutes or so I give my students a 3 minute break and I tell them to check their texts or whatever. Since they know when they can use their phone, they know all the other time they aren't supposed to use it.

My chemistry teacher does this! He says as long as you keep your phone face down on your desk during class so he can see it, we can check it as we transition to/from labs or during designated times, and it's cut down on phone usage during class a lot since everyone knows they'll have a chance to deal with whatever they have going on and it lets us all focus a lot better

I have the same mindset as Julien when it comes to work- I refuse to overwork myself for absolutely no reason, gain or benefit. Especially when it comes to retail and other minimum wage jobs. Do your job and do it as best you can, but doing more than is asked of you isn't always in your best interest for your physical well being, or mental health. I value my sanity more than an underpaying job that overworks me.

Well it sounds like you perhaps just have a toxic office, there are probably other offices in your area that aren't as toxic. Because as an older person I can tell you I'm delightful to work with LOL. Not all older people are rude and and shame on them for being like this. I was rarely one of those kids that was on their phones in class, unless I had something serious going on, but my policy is this: those students are adults, they’re not talking and distracting other students during the lecture, they’re just choosing to not be as present themselves, and they’re PAYING you to be there. So continue to teach and do your job and let them do what they want. I get that it may feel like those students are rude/disrespectful or that you don’t want those students lowering your grade averages... I just think that they’re paying to be there and helping to pay your salary, and they’re adults, so let them be??? I was a 4.0 college student with a laptop and phone in every class and I was never once scolded by a professor. If a student cares, they’ll figure it out and if they don’t, it’s their problem/their waste of money. They’re entering the real world after college so now is as good a time as any for them to learn that they need to either sink or swim.
@KC-zy5jy6 жыл бұрын
Fallon Moore I agree with your point. However, as a student, it does effect me. For example, in class discussion, no one participates because everyone is checked out. No one wants to join class discussion or small group discussion. When a majority of the class is checked out on their phones, it effects the other students too unfortunately
@Erich86 жыл бұрын
The issue is there have been studies that show it is detrimental to the learning of the students around that person so it is distracting and disruptive for other students. As a college student it is so annoying when I see people doing it because it's impacting the education that I'm paying thousands for, not just their own. An adult should make the choice to either not go to class if they know they won't pay attention or stay off facebook for an hour and a half (or at the very least sit at the back row of the class).
@candace2006 жыл бұрын
As a former TA who had to go around telling people to put their soccer game away on their laptop because people from five rows back can't see around it and it is distracting I would say you are wrong. It is distracting when there are 300 people in class and one creates a trend of disrespect and distraction. Also this self righteous attitude that you are paying them makes students act as if they instantly deserve a good grade because they pay tuition and that teachers should run scared because their punk students will try to get them fired or something. I support the professors because all of the ones I worked for cared more about their students education than they do themselves. I was fine with telling them to stop or leave since they are not paying attention anyway. The other students are paying tuition too and you literally make it more difficult for them to study.
@fallonelle6 жыл бұрын
Candace Horner what are you talking about? No one here is talking about having a game out that physically prevents other students from seeing the lesson lol. People intentionally interfering with the view of other students is rude and inconsiderate but that’s a whole different irrelevant subject; we are talking about students that are on their laptops/phones and not making noise or not distracting other students, but also not paying attention in class. And as an adult, if they want to waste their money and time in the class instead of learning, it’s annoying for teachers to constantly take time away from the rest of the class that IS paying attention to keep asking students to get off of their electronics instead of going on with the lesson and interacting with students who are present and making a constant effort. 🙄 I didn’t pay $50,000 a fucking year in tuition to listen to teachers lecture the kids who weren’t paying attention and didn’t want to be there, instead of spending class time teaching me and everyone else when we all showed up attentive and eager to learn. It makes no sense to punish a who class and sacrifice their learning just to point out other students who clearly don’t want to listen to the lecture. Btw I went to a HUGE school in downtown Chicago and we never ever had 300 kids in one class lmao. Maybe 50-70. In the smaller/more exclusive elective classes, 25 students. NEVER 300. I’m sure it happens, but classes that big aren’t the norm. Even the culture of expecting to get good grades just for paying tuition is something I’ve literally never heard of, nor does it have anything to do with electronics in class because what you’re describing is clearly an attitude/entitlement issue and has nothing to do with someone using technology in class. I respect other people’s opinions and I think it’s fine to have civil disagreements but right now we aren’t even discussing the same topics, it seems, as none of the things you mentioned really apply to what I was saying?
@fallonelle6 жыл бұрын
Kai Lewis I’m sorry that was your experience with school, that is unfortunate and if that’s what happened, I can definitely see how it would affect other students. That was never my experience in discussion classes as everyone was always really involved and outspoken, and for us, those classes were conversational and opinionated so there was never really a reason to have computers because you had no reason at all to take notes. So I don’t share that experience but if I did, I would be bothered by that too and I can see how it would dampen the environment!

Once the person builds the strength to throw my trash self inside the dumpster, I'll rip out of the bag and scream. Jump out and run away. This will force administration to reconsider throwing out methods

I really REALLY needed to hear that one day your work ethic and attitude will be rewarded. It's so hard to be at a job where they make you feel shitty. It makes me believe it will get better! Thanks

My boyfriends birthday is on Christmas and last year he grew out his beard just so he could cosplay as Jesus on Christmas. Idk how many times he said “it’s my birthday” that day lol he isn’t even religious 😆

I know absolutely nothing about mma or ufc, but every time you guys have these conversations on the podcast I really enjoy them. Hearing about the ethics of it all and listening to you guys discussing it is really interesting to me! You guys could talk about something I give no shits about and I’ll still enjoy it skdjdj

Ugh so glad you two are so aware of everything, everyone else’s comments I’ve seen online about the fight are only ever sighting khabibs wrongs. Love you two 💜 I agree 💯 on the fight talk lol

This was so interesting to listen to ! Thanks for dropping this podcast. I enjoyed the talk about the biggest event form the week at the beginning. Jenna, your point on the work ethic was brilliant. I agree wholeheartedly. It is something that cannot be taken form you and shows your value as an employee.

Dissapointing to see so many passive aggressive comments. Im not into the UFC at all, but I still understand what's going on and love their insight, and it IS their podcast. It seems like they didn't have a topic that would fill an entire episode today, so it's much better in my opinion to cover multiple things. Though, I will say, if y'all(J and J) could give a bit more background for things like this next time before you get into it, I think it would help c:
@Future_Phoenix6 жыл бұрын
Well, yes. Some background info could at least make some of us understand wth they're talking about, OR they could put the dogs on so we'd have something else to entertain us while we're watching (either in the room or on a live dog cam thing) 😀 My vote is for both.

We just don’t want to hear anymore ufc shit lol das all
@dragonsrule202016 жыл бұрын
@@trinabitchhh23 okay but y'all don't need to be rude about it. They obviously enjoy talking about it, if you dont like it, you can just skip ahead. Instead there's a bunch of comments talking about how boring and awful the sport is, criticising J&J for talking about boring shit for too long, and about 5/10 of the top comments are a timestamp to skip it with passive aggressive messages next to it. Like, we get it, just move on. You can dislike something without tearing it down.
@Future_Phoenix6 жыл бұрын
@@dragonsrule20201 They've talked about it before and even for entire podcasts(or at least one? I can't remember), but I don't recall it receiving this sort of reaction (then again, my memory is pretty shit). I think a part of the problem is that it's nowhere in the title this time, and that they're talking about it for the first 21 minutes or so. So some people just probably got frustrated. I mean, I can't skip it because I'm a perfectionist when it comes to some things and I'm just weird like that, but that's my problem. I just did something else while half listening during that part. 😅
