I got a big kick out of watching this one about the unhappy customer. Great way to handle it! I’m a maker of sorts, mostly using live edge stuff that I’ve milled myself. I make quirky furniture and stuff, marrying woodworking, blacksmithing, and welding. For charcuterie boards, I forge the handles out of steel stock and spend a ton of time on each board. Never tried to sell one, but I write a story about the origin and process. Long winded explanation, but on the card I tell them if they put it in the dishwasher it will probably explode. When you opened the box, it was easy to see how the damage had occurred. Love the content and enthusiasm in your videos! I share you guys with lots of people.

The customer policy is a yes and no game and may not work as you intended. What is to stop them from doing the same thing to the new board and returning that one as well. Customer service is the KEY to every business. In my business ( we make Hot sauces ) I have replaced bottles for various reasons. IE breakage in mail and this is done right away but I always talk to the customer first to find out the exact nature of the problem and then work from there. It can not be just a cut a dry policy because YOU need the information going forward and this helps the mistakes to be NOT repeatable. Perhaps as Part of Your boxing you may want to include a single piece of paper that says in LARGE fonts. Putting cutting board in dishwasher voids the warranty . Hand wash only etc. as well as include some board conditioner with every board you sell. They may still screw it up and you may still replace the board but it will not be continuous returns from them. Kinda a side note My knives are expensive, they are my tools of my trade. You put my knives in the dishwasher I kill you LOL

I would suggest that you put a piece of 1/4 " clear plastic about 6" wide down the center of your table saw sled over the blade from the front rail to the back rail . It serves as a guard to keep your fingers from getting too close to the blade, and cuts down on the amount of sawdust that gets thrown back into your face.

If you get less than 1% return due to idiots, then you are doing well. It is the same for everyone including Apple. Apple products are not only good, but their customer service also is impressive. The last time I asked for their help, it was 100% my fault. I was the idiot. I took it to the Apple store, and Apple fixed it at free of charge. I have been their fan some what before. I knew they have a good reputation. When I take my Apple products back to Apple store, I can always speak to people who CAN speak English, are helpful and very courteous. So I have had my trust in their product. Sure, they may charge premium for their products, I guess. But above all, I trust they have solid products and quality service. Over the years, I stopped buying cheap products for this exact reason. Trust me, the premium products would last more than a life time, if you take care of it. It will pay for itself in the end.

I heard Jennie say in this video that you guys have made a couple of hundred boards. What other revenue streams do you have (other than youtube/social media) to keep the business afloat? Surely 200 cutting board sales weren't enough to make you go out and lease a huge shed, buy a glowforge and all the rest? I guess the real question is, does your business make enough from the woodworking side alone to keep it afloat? Or is it reliant on youtube and other social media? Just asking as a person with a small woodworking business.
@jennieanddavis2 жыл бұрын
Yo! It sounds like you're new to the channel. Great questions! The KZbin money is kept separate from the woodworking business! We split rent about 70/30 between the two, since the woodworking business takes up more real estate. We've sold about 400 boards, but only shipped about 200 of them (which is why we said 200 in the video). We've also done custom furniture jobs and larger items as well which make WAY more money than the boards.

Davis White's primary company is DEW Multimedia LLC which is listed at the bottom of all their web site pages. Texas records show Samara Table Company LLC is listed under it with the agent being DEW Multimedia LLC. Davis White is listed as owner. You're right to ask how can cutting boards alone pay for it all and why don't we see these custom jobs he speaks of? You Tube Woodworking is not about woodworking in many cases. It's about subscribers and KZbin clicks. That's what pays the bills. Once you create a story, you take folks along for the ride. In the next year you will only see cutting boards presented to viewers. And the amazing journey they are both on.

That is from people that no nothing about running a business or cant afford your prices. I run a business where I charge people an average 3000.00 for something they cannot see taste touch or smell. Try that out. 2. When someone says that "it" costs too much, That is not a question but it is a statement. Do not reply to it. If you do you probably wont get the sale.
