This lady was cheated out of a career that would have topped any entertainer in the last 100 years because we are so stupidity obsessed by looks, at least back when she arrived in the scene in Dreamgirls. There aren't enough adjectives to describe her powerful voice!!

Great voice but no stage presence. Selling records is what matters. And you don't need to be the best at anything to be the most popular. Do you think Michael Jackson, Britney Spears or Tina Turner are the best vocalists of their time? Were they the best singers ? No. but they were performers and despite being able to sing well and can't hold a candle to a Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan or a Christina Aguilera - they still triumphed over them

David I agree, the same thing happened with alot of Artists who were heavier back then regardless if they didn't have stage presence or not. Vesta Williams ( RIP )was extremely talented by often pushed aside from her label because of her weight. Same thing has been done to CeCe Peniston, Martha Wash ( For the label to use a skinny model to lip sync her vocals for songs she did for C + C Music Factory ) I always say when " Music Videos " start to exist, folks began to look more into the visuals than the actual voice

@@Tiripsroirraw Yes are absolutely right. The man who said she had no stage presence -how can that be when she starred in the Broadway play Dreamgirls? Is he telling us that she was cast in this part with no stage personality?

I love how everyone ignored the "no stage presence" comment 😂 because what? It's like people forget that all artists didn't dance and didn't need to do so to be successful.

I always thought the same thing , you know whats crazy, its like when she was younger her face didn't match her body. But when she lost all the weight it fits her better and she looks alot younger. It reminds me of how Vesta Williams lost all of that weight

Truly. her styling aged her tremendously she needed more youthful age appropriate attire which was would not have set career back so far on the runway!

@@therealrodney8561 That is so true !!! Alot of younger artists back then were styled looking at least 20 + older than what they were. CeCe Peniston talked about that when she made it big with " Finally " Her stylist didn't know how to style her. When I first saw the music video to " Finally " I thought Cece was in her later 40's. But when she came out with " Keep On Walkin ", " Crazy Love " " I'm Not Over You " I can definitely tell she was alot younger

The song WAS released as a remix in 1996 on JH's Greatest Hits CD. However, it was originally recorded and released on her 1985 "Say You Love Me" album. This TV appearance on Solid Gold is from late 1985 or early '86. Wikipedia doesn't always have correct information.
