For another example, look at the reunited Guns and Roses, where Axl Rose, as an older man, has shorter hair and doesn't wear short pants like he used to, just faded jeans. Even as a musician, I would sooner see him with short pants on, looking like he used to, as much as regaining some of the voice he has lost.

Jennifer is a first Soprano. In a recent interview, she said she used to hit whistle notes all the time in high school. Later, she said she decided to start singing more from her chest and utilizing less of her head voice. I'm not sure if it was the black church influence or not. She didn't go into it. Now, she says that she will just whistle (with her lips) - like a normal person. She said that people said it still sounded like she was singing. I guess that, for her, it takes less effort. Oh, she also said that, for the movie, she changed up her singing approach. She was talking to Tom Jones. Jennifer knows him from working on the UK version of The Voice. He told Jennifer that one of the differences between how she sings vs. how Aretha sang was that Aretha sang "from the top of her head down." In contrast, he said Jennifer sings from "the bottom of her feet up." Fun Fact: Jennifer said that people calling her "Jennifer" is weird. People that know her in real life call her "Jenny Kate."

Saw this Thursday night and it was horrible. Jennifer Hudson was NOT playing Aretha, Jenner was playing Jennifer. This was supposed to be about Aretha NOT her. The movie was all over the place. Jennifer should have sang the songs as Aretha would've BUT it seemed like she PURPOSELY was trying to make the songs HERS and it was NOT supposed to be that. Marlon Wayans did an excellent job and Mary J STOLE the show. I don't understand why they didn't get an actual older actress to play CL Franklin's mother because CL looked older than the woman who played his mother. The woman who played Aretha in the Genius series did a way better job in acting and vocally portraying Aretha BUT Jennifer Hudson actually LOOKED more the part. All n all I give this a 2 star rating out of 5 because the only this Aretha and Jennifer have in common is their EGOS.

@@cleopatrajones2024 I agree, my opinion that Miss Hudson was a imperfect choice if not a miscast, is not lessened by the fact she was Aretha's choice. Ms. Franklin could have been shortsighted in her choosing, and used the criteria of looks, name recognition and how often a person has paid tribute to her. Which we know no has done as frequently as Jennifer Hudson. I was hoping she would approach Aretha similar to transformational brilliance Jaime Foxx show in the Ray Charles biopic. Sadl never once did I totally suspend belief and see Aretha's life unfold on screen.

That was amazing! But I don't think the audience understood the ending went into a praise break, just like the ending Jon Batiste was playing after Jennifer sang with him and Stephen. (For those who may not know, praise break means you were feeling that music so much and it was so good you just had to take a moment to shout, dance, and praise the Lord!) Awesome performance Jennifer and band! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😊

Right, I went through so many comments before hitting one that recognized that Jesus had entered the music and the building. Man, I have never heard Respect sang like that. Having grown up in an old school Black Baptist Church, I got a little scared for her when she started to do the Holy Dance to the secular music.
