Also her argument is flawed because of course boys can't identify with girls in this context, as much as girls can't identify with boys. It goes both ways. But identification is not the issue. It's about empathy. Will people actually CARE about the lead character, especially if it's a woman? Yes. A good example of this is Tatiana Maslany as "She-Hulk" in the recent Marvel TV series. It's both action and great comedy, and Tatiana is able to transition between Hulk and being a woman at will. It's an interesting story because she finds most men only like her as "She-Hulk" and not as the petite Jenn Walters, attorney at law. The show conveys the idea that Jenn is able to control her Hulk form, unlike Bruce, because she spent her whole life controlling her rage: "I'm great at controlling my anger. I do it all the time: When I'm catcalled in the street; when incompetent men explain my own area of expertise to me. I do it every day because if I don't, I'll be called emotional, or difficult, or I might just get murdered."
