This song keeps in line with her theme of writing the "other side of the story" to other famous songs. Sugarland's song "Stay" was written as an answer to Reba's "Whoever's in New England" song. This song is clearly inspired by Dolly's "Jolene" and tells the story from Jolene's point of view. I like that she shows us there are two sides to every story. As a side note, motherhood really agrees with her. She's more beautiful than ever.

My favorite. It's the perfect pop video and torch song. Her voice is incredible, and the visuals are fantastic. Super storytelling! Love the ending. All of her songs/videos have an ironic ending. I instantly liked the song when I found it on Spotify by chance. After watching the music video repeatedly, if I may add, I love it more than ever. The director does an excellent job of unpacking the song’s meaning. I love how Nettles writes from the perspective of the mistress. Often times we only get the side of the woman getting cheated on (ex. Jolene). Circling back to the music video, I like how we see the mistress initially only feel guilt and embarrassment after the affair with a married man. Gradually, the mistress develops sympathy and maybe empathy for the wife. "That girl" starts as a kinder way of saying mistress but by the end that title transforms into not wanting to be the woman cheated on. I love how the director illustrates this point by having the mistress go to the bathroom and look at their reflection, showing how they are reflecting on the cons of being a mistress and later the cons of being the cheated wife. The last scene when the mistress runs into the wife and her wig falls off, revealing it’s her ergo she finally sees from the wife’s perspective.
