Hopefully I will be ready for this soon. Still waiting on the final offer. The sad part is that the VP is on my side even if my supervisor and manager are not. He will be the only one blindsided. The others should be overjoyed. The customers also will be a little hurt. Especially when my manager kills the work I spent my career there developing. I don't really have fantasies of telling off anyone, but as bitter as it sounds, I do wish I could pull the after hours email. I won't, and never could. But that's as close as I get to having cruel fantasies. It makes you look bad to future employers.
@jeffrybrickley8703 жыл бұрын
I am going to struggle with this one. My manager is going on vacation for 2.5 weeks. The VP that is on my side will be filling in for my manager. The new company recommends waiting to resign until the pre-employment requirements are completed. That should be while the manager is on vacation. I will do it in person. But I do feel like the timing is going to be perceived as poorer than just coincidence. The process started weeks ago. He announced his vacation on the same day I signed the new offer. The perception is going to be that I waited until he was gone. I will have to deal with that, but I am not going to wait longer just for him.

I think it's absolute b.s. that we have to provide 2 weeks notice to quit but employers don't have to give us notice to fire/lay off/terminate us on the spot
@sarahphillips2953 жыл бұрын
In most places you don’t have to provide any notice at all when you quit a job. Just be sure you haven’t signed an agreement to stay for any length of time. Usually because the company paid for college tuition or training and the employee agrees to work for a certain period of time after they’re out of school. Just because you don’t have to, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give notice though. You look way more professional, it looks better to a prospective employer and you could possibly get rehired if you do give notice.

Maybe you can emphasize things you liked about the job without actually praising the company? The toxic period for lasted for about a month each year when I was forced to work with another company that I didn't want to work for; I was the only one in the company forced to do it year after year and they abused me year after year and no matter how well I did at my job, no matter what extra work I took on, no matter my seniority and no matter how many times I suggested it was time for them to find someone else to do it, they refused to stop doing it to me. So the only way I could get that other company out of my life was to quit my year-round job.

There's finger-pointing, criticism, and animosity between the employees. Everyone is exhausted and burnt out. I was not properly trained, and so sometimes I make mistakes out of ignorance, and I'm usually ridiculed for it by my coworkers. This is at a nursing home, so there is a part of me that feels this moral obligation to stay for the elderly people. I am at a loss at what to do.

I just became a First time Quitter during my career. I voluntary terminated myself when I went to my bosses office and explained I am terminating myself. I worked and adapted to a highly toxic co-worker environment from Day 1 but rode it out until I hit a brick wall mentally. I never experienced this in my entire life, I just could not do the work anymore that was asked of my coworkers/boss. so before anyone else realized this and ended my tenure that day. I reviewed my employment contract, stating at-will meaning either you or company can terminate contract at any time for any reason, with or without cause. I dont like being a quitter, but I did not want to leave any negative impressions in the office. A two-week notice in my situation was not an option since I was already in shut down mode already and needed to take action quickly. I called a longtime friend of mine before I quit to get his take on this and asked he me this question. Will you eat the next day after you quit? I said yes. And his answer was to drop this position like a Hot Potato!

If it stresses you out constantly, also plays with your mental health you need to leave ASAP. Also these so called “Managers” don’t even appreciate 2 week notices anymore. Once they find out that you are planning on leaving they start to act funny, also talk crazy about you behind your back. I made the horrible mistake of burning a bridge by insulting my former company. The first week I started my new job I had an incident that really made me want to leave the new job and go back to the old one. But because I decided to be immature I they weren't going to hire me back. Luckily I stuck it out with my new/current job and I absolutely love it, however if it had not turned out good I would have been stuck working a job I hate. I also burnt the bridge of being able to use any of my former coworkers as references. DON'T burn your bridges I promise it isn't worth it.

I wish employers could do the same in turn with employees and lay them off with dignity instead of the mass zoom layoffs we have been seeing as of late that has become so popular in the last 2 years. I love how we are supposed to be respectful polite and give 4 weeks notice when employers have been allowed to act like clowns.

@ZZ-ou7gp10 ай бұрын
I think there are some valid points you mention. However, thanking you boss or company and saying nice things is something you should not do. Your letter should simply state that your resigning effective from start date and your last day of work. You don't need to say anything about transfer knowledge helping with transitioning etc. You then put yourself in pearl and shitz talk when you do leave, with everything blaming you for not helping with the transition. You can't win basically so don't mention this in your resignation letter. Keep it absolutely brief as possible. And if there is a meeting to discuss your resignation. Keep it brief. Dont say anything that you don't want them know. Don't say nice things for the sake of it. Keep it polite and let them do the talking. Just listen to them. After that it's up to you who you tell or not about you leaving.

If we work in a team environment, do we have to tell our team members we are quitting on the 2 week mark, or do we leave that to our boss? I guess I will ask my boss, but yeah I really don't want the team members making my last 2 weeks hell. This is the thing I'm dreading the most.

Many companies nowadays are so arrogant. If you work for one of these toxic companies, not only should you not give them any notice, just quietly clean out your office over a couple weeks time, then just stop showing up. Don't even bother telling them that you left their employ. Let them figure it out. F* them!

In terms of an unsafe working environment what if I don’t want to work for another 2 week?
@JenniferBrick3 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you live (different places have different laws about notice periods) and what you can negotiate.
@jeremygalloway13483 жыл бұрын
@@JenniferBrick can you give examples of anywhere that has laws pertaining to this? What do the laws consist of/state? If the job is a legit unsafe environment. ..as in you feel yours or someone else's safety is at risk...either by intentionally being unsafe or neglecting/ignorance of OSHA requirements...if you feel 'threatened or in danger'...leave ASAP. I feel a life and that person's quality of life(might get severely injured...say amputated arm or something that can really cause an unnecessary hardship on that person's life...that was completely avoidable had you resigned or even just quit. I'm about to put my resignation in...I work as an overnight produce manager at a groceries store. Pros...good workout every night. Most tenured coworkers are real chill. Cons.. Sometimes insane hour shifts..like 17hours...working out that much is just stupid. The issue is I'm back in school to become an engineer, so I talk with mysupervisor and he saidl once I finish my area towards end of shift I can roll out. Whkch im very very thankful for...but even with that the nights are tool long...I'm in calculus 2 this semester and its kicking my butt...being so tired from the type of work I do being compounded by severe lack of sleep...I barelychave time to legit study or sleep. that aspect of it being so tired is dangerous especially while driving forklift. The place I work has some safety concerns to say the least lol. If I felt threatened or endangered Just go in say I enjoyed my time here but it has become too dangerous for me and I no longer feel comfortable staying in this role company. Be polite and Frank and be honest. If you can hold through the danger and put 2 weeks notice in...and your supervisor likes you enough and you trust them enough to give a positive work reference...I'd go that route. So I'm actually pondering on this exact same thing..but with added not enough time being dedicated fo my schooling. If onlycearth days were 36 hours long I think I'd be ok lol. But I'm curious as to what you're hinting at with saying it depends on the laws in your area...thank you and keep up the great work! Inspiring

@@jeremygalloway1348 there is a global audience watching this video, and not every country ore region has At-Will employment as is common in many US states, and employment contracts may also stipulate different notice periods. I have been wanting to quit my job for some time now and I’ve worked at this job for 7 years but I loved my manager and every time I was about to quit, we were short staffed and I felt bad quitting so I never did. One time I actually did quit/got fired and my boss and manager both were mad at me but I needed up helping them out during a busy holiday and they ended up giving me my job back. That was 2 years ago, and now my manager just up and quit with no notice to me and 2 other employees are planning on leaving, that would leave me and one 2 other employees. if you don't have a contract or legal binding forcing you to give a two weeks notice just go out how you wish to go out. it literally makes no difference to you rather if you get fired or not or reduced hours or whatever because your already leaving and your co workers and bosses if they even keep you around they will just make everything as bad for you as possible because they know it will be the last two weeks they will have to gut whatever they want at you, as long as you don't do anything illegal when you go out in a blaze in glory i encourage you to pick the worst possible time to leave, there is no reason to help people out that would never help you out
