You’ve been asking yourself this question, and so I have. Is it time to leave my job? At some point you become dissatisfied at work. It’s easy when there’s a reason like you have a bad boss are in a toxic work environment. It’s harder to tell when it’s time to quit your job when the signs are subtle. In this video, I’m going to help you validate your decision to move on from your job and help you figure out what to do next.

I literally got driven out of a job in only 2 months where I was actually a good performer. Boss felt threatened by me and wanted to put all the stops - excessive criticism, no praise, put downs and even missing instructions. Final straw was when all my work was ignored, something I spent 2am doing until while my dad was in hospital. I left 2 weeks ago and although markets a bit tough now and gotta be determined, I absolutely don’t regret my decision. You inspired me to give me the power to do that thanks!

I left an incredibly toxic, corporate job a few years ago. It got to where I dreaded my alarm going off every morning, cried in the parking garage daily on my lunch break and just about had a complete mental breakdown. Management had suddenly changed and it was nothing like it once was when I took the job. (5 years prior) they had a major buy out and became massively corporate (it literally became like a corporate version of "The Hunger Games" everyone was out for themselves and would do anything and everything to survive/get ahead). I became increasingly unhappy with the values of the company (or lack of). I was lucky I had a "rainy day fund" and financially could survive a few months while job searching. That's the most valuable advice I can give any gen z Always have a backup emergency account with atleast 6 months of income to where you can live comfortably. You never know when a job can shift, management becomes toxic, etc. and if you need to get out you can do so.

I agree with your video 100%! I’m in the same situation where I feel unappreciated for all my work and also in a toxic environment with a coworker that is jealous of my work performance. I’m a better employee when the coworker isn’t in the office. Management seems to ignore my concerns about this employee and I feel like I’m being treated differently. Finding another job seems easy but starting all over is what I dread the most.
@JenniferBrick
@JenniferBrick 6 ай бұрын
You are being treated differently; they expect less from your toxic coworker than they do from you - at minimum behavior wise. They likely don’t intend for this, but they are enabling the toxic behavior. Left unaddressed it will rot the team. Do you a) have the ability to minimize contact with this coworker, and/or b) see a path to getting promoted away from them within the next 6-12 months?

Time to go is when you’ve applied for something within the company they’ve denied you but then except you to train the incoming new manager. That happened to me in 2015 I applied for the managers role having being in the company for 7 years I thought I’d be an easy pick, however, I was told I wasn’t going to be shortlisted and I was expected to train the new manager when they arrived. The next day I handed in my notice which was the test decision I’ve ever made on my life. They tried to bribe me to stay with BS pay rise but I rejected their offer and told them what I thought of their organization. Funny enough they went out of business during Covid so jokes on them.

I left in Oct. a job that I LOVED doing but had many downsides such as a toxic workplace, over worked and burnt out, low mental health and self esteem, and would be so anxious to go into work I once loved and thought was my dream. I was so scared to leave something I spent my time, money, and education on but I ultimately had the support from my parents and had a rainy day fund since I took overtime. Now I’m starting my new job next month where the boss seems really personable and I am only hope and pray that this is where I was meant to be and grow and learn. Fingers crossed. After a long time of crying before work by being scared to be ostracized, to crying for leaving my dream job as a result of the people, not the actual job itself in a way, to now feeling like I have found the light of opportunity and hopefully find the place I’m meant to be at.

I finally took the leap and began applying for new jobs, one day later and I have a phone interview scheduled for a bank teller position. I knew it was time to leave my job when I had a full mental break down about work while not even there, that's when I knew it was over. I will hang in there until I find something new though so I have a flow of income coming in but I will not give up until I find a new one, I refuse to remain at this current job.

It was a really tough first half of the year at my corporate office job, but I left to go back for schooling (licensed certificate) in the trades instead and enjoying the process now. Life's much better with the right challenges and engagement in things you're interested in, while too short to feel like you're stuck somewhere just because you can do the mundane and get paid for it. Completely worth the plunge so far!

I suffer from ptsd and get burned out easily. Some of my favorite jobs involved large amounts of repetition and monotony. I liked knowing exactly what to expect when i went to work. Surprises and too many "challenges" give me anxiety. They are often overwhelming. I just want to go to work and know exactly what my level of input will be and how much pay I'll earn for it. Employers often take advantage by slapping on more "challenges" without more pay..

I think another component to energy matching is that companies are laying off and expecting workers to to pick up the slack or they aren't bringing on extra resources. Couple that with the lack of PTO in the US and it almost seems like there's no way to actually "Coast"
@JenniferBrick
@JenniferBrick 6 ай бұрын
One of the videos I've been wanting to do the most for the last 3 years is a deep dive on the sorry state of PTO in America. There are cultural, social, and legal factors that make it almost non-existent - especially for companies who offer 'unlimited' PTO. This is also why quiet quitting has had a moment. Mentally checking out is a direct byproduct of not having time to restore.

On top of that we just hired a few more people that instantly will be coming in with a higher title than me. I have no chance :( There are very limited roles at my job and I just can’t see what could be the next one for me since I’ve only been here 4 years. Most companies will provide 'growth opportunities' for the all-time hero 'bag-licker' shill type of employee. And the lazier and incompetent [they] are, the greater the rewards within that company. Great content Jennifer Brick, and helpful insights, Cheers! 😊

I'm thinking it's time to leave my job because I fell in love with a coworker and its been rough. Honestly I love my job, but it's been very hard these last 6 months. We have a great crew and great leadership that I strongly feel care about our growth. I feel like an idiot for wanting to leave a this job and for this reason.

I always loved your content! You were there in the worst times and have been apart of my growth. You should see if Jocko or Andrew Hubberman would have you in their content. It is really hard to find woman that will talk the way you do. Harvard Business Review (HBR) was helpful but they honestly haven’t experienced real shit with real consequences (like losing their job and being homeless ) great intentions but just theory. I am working on a book myself on the subject. Also Robert Green and the Stoic Ryan Holiday are great resources. I hope to see you on someone elses podcast soon

I hadn't even heard of Jacko or Hubberman until a few weeks ago - I think I'm outside their target demo. But I agree - there aren't a lot of female voices in this space which leads to a complete lack of balance.

Commenting b4 watching for the algo Situation for me is unique , 21 and mandatory expenses are very low. Like 600/mo. I know I’m lucky ; I only work one day a week at this car wash I’ve been in fed and on since high school. It’s a 6 hour shift and these are the literal worst hours of my time on this planet. Can sleepwalk through the work bored as fuck. Disconnect between the bosses , management and the crew and lack of influence on decisions. All that with low pay has been giving me the signs to disengage. I don’t even feel like picking up more shifts to work for 14.25. I want real money now the real expensive bills and wants are starting to roll in I’m getting my CS degree for my financial security and got a plan to get out the situation I’m in. Anyone else doing CS / Tech / college. Could benefit from having some comrades. We can even play the capitalism game together 😎

I am the only employee who don't feel sad for not being endorsed to production after our nesting in call center. My trainer is constantly yelling, like you can hear her outside the training room. She doesn't sound like an educated person, and she sounds like a person living in slums where yelling is her habit. The account only gives you small incentives, but very strict like shit.

Jennifer. Can you please help? I used to love my job but my boss quit and I got reassigned to someone who basically kept shifting me from one job role to another and pushing me under the bus when his mismanagement came out. He goes crying to his boss to 'put me in my place'. Day before yesterday he crossed a line and took credit for my work. I sent out an email calling him out on this. As usual his boss, my super boss called me and lectured me how "it's all about company and not about the individual" and how I'm entitled for wanting credit. I am completely withdrawn from the work. I don't wish to work here anymore. But i also don't wish to leave burning bridges. It seems I shouldn't have sent that email calling my boss out. What should I do? How do I navigate this?

I started my current job in January I'm bored employer dose not seem invested there is more work than ever the other week my manager told me I had completed 3 more of the complex tasks in Octobers stats . Their is recruitment freeze plus shaddowing opportunities have been frozen because there is more work. A number of staff are leaving not laid off. My local office closed last year and I now have long expensive commute they want staff to spend time working from the office rather than remotely. I joined the employer over decade a go because it was a local job.

You may not like to hear this, but you are one of the last people I would hire for public speaking or to work with; you YT material is all driven by negativity about toxicity, backstabbing and workplace politics. The is no talk about self development, responsibility or being a grown up. Good luck with your goals, but I think business will be thin while your theme is basically anti-work.
