Potato mountain? Now that's a funny name for a layout. XD It's been very cool seeing the series continuing Jenny, thanks for providing people new to the hobby with a easy to understand how to series on modeling.

Great Jenny! I’m no videographer so not able to show you but I save Teabags. Dry them out and open them up and scrunch them back to powder (quite therapeutic) between finger & thumb. Then I add these to my mix (as you describe). The benefit of this is that you also have a texture rather than a smooth finish. Best wishes. Robert.

Coming along nicely Jenny. I'll be using your 009 layout as a point of reference if I ever get round to my 009 module. Looking forward to the next one.

Looking great, reminds me of the Mountain from 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' the one Richard Dryfuss carved out of moulding clay and smash!

This is just a thought but I notice that everyone seems to put the plaster into a pot or what ever then add water. It works ok and mixes up nice but I actually get water and then add the plaster. For me it mixes so much easier and no hassles of dry lumps you have to look out for. As I said its how I do it and thought I may pass it on for others if they want to try that method.

Plasterers add plaster to water, that is the correct way to mix it. I dont know why modelers use expensive patent fillers. Get a bag of multifinish and do 20 model railways for a fraction of the price!

with the plaster i add PVA glue as well as the water. I find it helps stop cracking if there is any movement when moving the layout ( once dry the plaster ends up a bit rubbery
@paulmerry62623 жыл бұрын
What proportions do you add PVA glue? I’ve not tried this technique.

Put a drop of washing up liquid into your plaster mix, next time - helps it to 'wet' more readily.

Yes I’ve seen it done by bricklayers in mortar too.

Looking really good Jenny, can I suggest having some slate in the scenery area as you’re basing it in N. Wales home of the slate industry. I’ll have to bring my OO9 Baldwin locos when I come to pick my Class 24 up, they’re going to be DCC chipped for when I build my big (SG and NG) layout and it would be good to see them running on your layout before mine is started 😉

I don't think your live-steam Garrett will fit! :-)
@Warbler-Productions4 жыл бұрын
@@hamshackleton got 4 OO9 locos, one is a kit of K1 the other three are RTR locos, one Manning Wardle like Jenny and 2 Bachmann Baldwins, one as 590 from the original Welsh Highland and one in fictitious Southern Livery, plus 3 Lyndon and Barnstable liveried coaches.

Yes I do need some crushed slate. I’m actually planning on buying one of the Bachmann Baldwins at some point.

@@hamshackleton I didn’t really, just thought I’d reply to show I’ve got more than one version of K1, as well as being able to go and see the real thing at any time by cycling for just over half an hour 😉 she really is a bit of a beast at Statfold, though under-powered for the Welsh Highland.

It's coming along nicely. I'm still not sold on DCC though.
@hamshackleton4 жыл бұрын
For a simple layout, and one, or maybe two, loco's, DCC isn't necessary. (Unless you want sound, and/or computer/phone control from a distance).
