You could’ve gone the other way. Qofy, a reactor who usually has more to say, just took off his headphones at the end of the song and walked off the set. LOL. My favorite part? Geez. Geoff’s glorious bass harmonies throughout, Eli’s elegant riffs, Cesar’s angelic harmonies, J.NONE (his singing and just having him back “home” where he belongs), and then, OMG, Layne’s vocal perc and of course VioLayne! That just took it to the next level. Totally amazing.

on the big scream before the violin comes in, it's actually Eli on the highest note. super high clean notes hurt him, so he's not fond of those, but with metal screams he's more comfortable. Geoff actually said during the premiere that Eli was the one who chose to do it that way, it wasn't written like that in the arrangement. guess Eli just felt it needed it 😄

I just have to add that it's now been a little more than 3 years since Geoff's E1 at the end of Oogie Boogie's Song blew everyone's mind. I love that he's still the first to say that the goal is not to sing lower, but sing better, and the suppleness which he now displays as he sweeps back and forth between chest voice and harmonics shows that he definitely follows his own advice: "Practice, practice, practice!" Regarding Layne beatboxing while playing the violin, I remember him saying that he tried it in Warriors, but the different rhythms demanded by the two different tracks made it impossible for him. For this one, they decided not to have him to do it because it wasn't looking good, but I wasn't sure when they said it if they meant it just aesthetically didn't look good, or if it again was the disconnect between what he was trying to do with his mouth vs his hands.

This is my absolute favorite Metallica song and I was really torn when I saw the notification for the video premier. On one hand, I was skeptical because... well... it's a slow song, but it's still a "metal" song. On the other, I really didn't want to be skeptical because they've proven me wrong on so many levels (i.e. "In the Hall of the Mountain King"), so I knew they would probably kill it. I was unfortunately at work during the premier, but I watched it during my break and nearly cried. I immediately sent it to my dad who isn't the BIGGEST acapella fan, but he absolutely LOVED it. They just... they keep blowing my mind and it's given me such a hope for more music like this because I've lost hope on the radio and I keep listening to the same 60s-80s (sometimes 90s) songs (not that there's anything wrong with it) with the occasional band like Twenty One Pilots or Greta Van Fleet thrown in.

It occurs to me that Cesar’s unnatural stillness kind of sets the mood for the song-most songs are full of his natural ebullience, and here we see right away this really somber body language and expression. He’s not even snapping, when everybody else is doing it somewhere in the song. I kept feeling like something might be wrong, but after you commented on it, it hit me this is probably deliberate. Just because of Cesar, those of us who know Voiceplay see right away that there’s something new going on here. Seems like his gestures, too, are placed in certain spots for a reason. Like where he goes full body scream/belt-right when that violin appears-and then he’s far more active through the solo, and back to somber as things slow down. Now you have me obsessing-Ima have to go back and just watch him! Also, I agree-I’ve quit saying a Voiceplay song is the best or my favorite because then there’s the next one, and I’ll feel that way again. Great reaction, Jen!!

My favorite moment is that "and nothing else matters" when he finally turns the rock god loose. So good.)

I love your reactions. Don’t ever change a thing. As far as my favorite part, it’s all good. Your analysis helps me in my journey to be a better singer.

I love the drop Geoff does on the "are". I've never heard conflict and release in one single word before, but he does it.

No worries regarding the lentgh of the video. How could one do a shorter video and even try to analyse anything Geoff came up with for this arrangement. I made the mistake to watch the premiere on friday while tired and exhausted and was overwhelmed by it. Had to listen the next day after a proper rest to be able to appreciate it fully. I would say ir is on a similar level as "Everybody Dies" in complexity, but VoicePlay are doing it (almost) just with their voices. With Home Free's release a hour later, last friday was an emotional rollercoaster for sure..

Well, of course I stayed to the end. Had to see your reaction to Layne on the violin! Which completely blew my mind the first time I saw it, and blew my daughter's mind when I showed it to her (love being able to show HER songs instead of the other way around!) And at that point, in for a penny, in for a pound, of course I watched to the end. Been subscribed for a while now, love your videos. :) Blessings!

They're outdoing themselves with every song. And your videos keep me on a smile throughout. Thank you for these 40 minutes.

I want to know who has the genie in the bottle that makes it possible for them to keep outdoing themselves over and over and over! it's almost not fair!!! how? like, HOW??? thank you for putting some educational spin on something objectively mind-blowing that NO ONE should be able to keep themselves together for! you're made of sterner stuff than me! I tip my hat to you.
