Jennifer! Here more or less on time today. Well, this one is literally a cry for help isn't it? I wasn't familiar with the song but very emotional for sure. You still have that D3 no problem! And you were *close* on that C#3! 😁 Ok Naughty Jen mixing your flats and sharps I'm going to ask the stupid question. One I never learned as a kid in the couple of years of piano lessons I took. There is a key on the piano between, for example, C and D. I could call that same black key C sharp or D flat. When do you call it one name vs. the other name? Maybe we should call that C#3 a D FLAT 3, it makes it sound closer to the D3 you have. 😁Anyway, great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer! 😊

Hahaha great question! So it depends what key you’re playing in, every scale has to have every note. So in the key of D which has two sharps (F# and C#) I wouldn’t say Gb and Db because there’s already a G natural and D natural in that scale. Hope that makes sense!! They are essentially the same note but depending on what key we’re in depends on what way we say it 😊no stupid questions!

@@JenniferGlatzhofer oh yes! Got it! So for the key of D you wouldn't list the notes as D-E-Gb-G-A-B-Db-D because you'd be listing G and D twice in sequence. Better to write it as D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D. See you *can* teach an old dog new tricks. 😅

His voice is just like that, even when his talking normal, so the grit and raspiness is natural, he is not forcing anything, for people who are not in the rock or metal industry thinks that it's unhealthy, but is not if you are doing in certain way... that's why there are metal singers who do the screams for years and theres no problem, theres also metal teachers who can teach people singing the growls and screams, but i can say the same for a male singer who does high pitch notes for many years and put pressure on the vocal cords... it's more common for a male to loose the high pitch than a scream.

Cakra got injured to his vocal cords. it healed but still the sounds of his vocal isn't the same anymore. for example: body builders get injured of they muscles, and the muscles will recover, and the results are like we know. but in this case, we couldn't recommend it for practicing our singing lessons, cause Cakra is one of the lucky one. my explaination may be can make people understand more why Cakra has that rasp or it may be answer that he isn't push his vocal cords to get that rasp. thats why his rasp heard naturaly

Great analysis of this cover. I had never heard that excessive "breathiness" might damage the vocal cords, good to know. I hope you react to more of Cakra Khan's work. There are so many worthy examples, but "Make It Rain" is high on my list. Keep up the good work, Jen!

Great reaction Jen! This is one of my favorite Cakra Khan songs. Other good Demi covers are Skyscraper and Stone Cold. He does so many songs from singers like Joe Cocker, Etta James, James Brown, Hosier and others. He has been an established singer in Indonesia for several years and definitely seems to know how to take care of his voice. Thank you and congratulations on your album!

You mention distortion....it's called gravel and grit...it's distortion on purpose with a purpose. His breathiness is to display anguish and grief and sorrow and angst...The breaths are choices ....but these are choices from the heart...these are choices of emotion...Demi dreams of singing this song with his intention....He is magical and would love to see him across the world. I think he's working on it...we shall see. Jen: If you watch the video 1st then come back with your analysis and the thoughtfulness of meaning, the combination would be brilliant.
