I returned to this reaction - the second one this evening - and I noticed something weird. There is no way I wouldn't have given this a like, as seems also be the case with your first encounter with Floor being "Ghost love Score" which didn't seem to have a like from me either. Are likes disappearing after some time? In any case you received likes again on this and the other video, even though I'm convinced I gave them likes the first times I saw these reactions. Although I'm not quite familiar with the earnings model YT has agreed with creators like you, but I think the amount of likes is part of that; if in time likes are made to "disappear" it may reduce the earnings which I find - if true - a bit disturbing.

@papparocket
@papparocket 4 жыл бұрын
@@linabasilisk1955 I think we are both correct. "ardua" is the latin root of the English word "arduous", but is also captured by the English words "difficult" and "struggle" Per ardua ad astra could then be translated as "through struggle/difficulty/adversity to the stars". It is the official motto of the RAF and Air Forces of countries in the British Commonwealth, interestingly save the South African Air Force, which adopted "per aspera ad astra" as their motto. A literal translation of aspera is "rough" but seems to find better meaning in English word "hardships" So "per aspera ad astra" would translate as "through hardships to the stars". Given the deaths of NASA astronauts in the Apollo 1 fire and Columbia and Challenger disasters, I think "per aspera ad astra" might be a better motto for NASA. Many of us in the Agency just use 'ad astra" as a closing salutation in our emails. I knew there was more than just that, but hadn't pursued it further. So thank you for prompting me to dig deeper into the topic. Oh, and while the RAF and other Air Forces use "per ardua ad astra" as a motto, I think a better motto for organizations like Air Forces that fly machines to reach great heights but not so high as to reach the "stars" a better motto might be "per ardua ad alta". ad astra, Father Rocket

@BedMau
@BedMau 4 жыл бұрын
I apologize in advance if my english is not perfect, not my mother language (I'm Italian), but I want to add something about the ashes being sent to the Moon. The thing is that Eugene spent a lot of his career studying the moon and its craters (to better understand the impact craters on earth), at the point that he wished one day he could go up there and study them on the spot. Then the possibility of taking astronauts to the moon became reasonable, and Shoemaker applied immediately to be an astronaut and be part of the program, but he was later declined due to his health conditions: he had addison's disease (which affects adrenal glands and some hormones production). Quoting him directly "Not going to the moon and banging on it with my own hammer has been the biggest disappointment in life". Listening to this song strikes me very hard, as I'm a Physicist with an extreme love for my subject, and I feel I can understand what he felt was taken away from him. He was a geologist, and all he wanted to do was to go up there and replicate the same movements and activities typical of his field of studies on the moon's surface. Knowing that he died without ever making it to the moon, one of his student, managed to put some of his ashes into a NASA probe which would "crash" into the moon (like a meteor that creates a crater, ironic detail), along with a photo of the Beringer crater (the one he was famous for) and the quote from Romeo and Juliet that is at the end of the song... ...making him the ONLY man buried on the Moon. Now, the quote "And when he shall die Take him and cut him out in little stars And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with the night And pay no worship to the garish sun" assume a new, beautiful meaning in my perspective

Amazing reaction from you as always 👍 A little fact. Floor told us in an interview that the last part - the recorded it several times before Tuomas were satisfied. Then they all went home - but Floor didn't have the right feeling at the end, she couldn't feel it deeply enough - so she listened and rehearsed further and then recorded it in her home studio - and nailed id. The feeling was there. She sent it to Tuomas, this is the ending you hear on the album. Floor is such a perfectionist and a voicenerd - and this is why this song goes right into our soul and heart. Floor had done her magic once again - you can actually feel her emotions in that ending. Incredible - but Floor in a nutshell - pure perfection, and the song has a soul. 🤘 🤘 🤘
@tarmotyyri6733
@tarmotyyri6733 4 жыл бұрын
Floor told in one of her YT videos that the operatic vocals part took her some time to get just right as she is a perfectionist. They had already recorded the vocals for the song & were pretty happy with them, but Floor decided to give it one more go. So she took an audio track with also the choir in it, as previously she had sung her part without hearing the choir, and used it at her home studio for recording her vocals once more & was finally completely satisfied with them. P.S. Because the Moon is tidally locked with the Earth, one side of the Moon always faces toward Earth. Interpretation of this fact would lead one to believe that the Earth's position is fixed on the lunar sky and no earthrises can occur; However, the Moon librates slightly, which causes the Earth to draw a Lissajous figure on the sky. This figure fits inside a rectangle 15°48' wide and 13°20' high (in angular dimensions), while the angular diameter of the Earth as seen from Moon is only about 2°. This means that earthrises are visible near the edge of the Earth-observable surface of the Moon (about 20% of the surface). Since a full libration cycle takes about 27 days, earthrises are very slow, and it takes about 48 hours for Earth to clear its diameter.

I wonder if you'll be the one to bring an answer the question we all ask ourselves: "how the heck did she do that?" Other great songs: Othan, or Hamrer Hyppier (all from the same live called Lifa). Love, Jo.

I'm joining anyone making the case for some Nordic style music, but I have to mention Einar Selvik from Wardruna once again. Wardruna made large parts of the soundtrack for the show Vikings. For Einar solo, I recommend him performing Volüspa live with only an ancient viking Harp and a little bit of classic orchestra kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWWWqq15YsmIp7c, Wardrunas latest song "Healing Mountain kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHbMq36jj9GId9k, or Wardruna performing Helvegen live with Aurora (singing in Old Norse !) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ_Ohah-hZ6kadE

Uhmmm, yes. You'll notice that the same kind of people who listen to Nightwish and The HU, often also listen to Heilung. I attended Lifa live at Castlefest 2017, and I was enchanted. I have no other way to describe it. Heilung was recommended by Kati Rán, Dutch nyckelharpa player (I also play nyckelharpa and that's a small community), who performed just before Heilung at Castlefest, at a different stage on the other side of the terrain, and she was going to watch Heilung from backstage so she had to rush and couldn't sign her merch. :D Anyway, after you've done Heilung, do Kati Rán - Suurin, where the people of Heilung are guest musicians.

Your translation is not quite accurate. It actually means "Be praised to the stars". "Laudato si" means "praised be". It's taken from Franciscus of Assisi "Laudato si, o mi signore" = "Be praised, oh my Lord" and "per aspera ad astra" = "through hardships to the stars".

Your enthusiasm for the music is infectious, I love it. I would count the verses as one bar of 6/8 followed by one bar of 3/4 and two bars of 4/4 (which makes a total of 14 quarters like you said, but I think this makes the most sense with the way the rhythm is structured).

Wow. You have demonstrated why your opinion is worth taking a bit more to heart. One of the reasons is you immediately were able to determine the time signature and immediately detected 3 voices in the chorus. Those go by so many reactors heads as to be shameful that such nice touches dont get acknowledged... this is why when you analyze a song, I listen. I appreciate your obvious hard work studying music. *I counted the verses as 4 measures of 6/8 then 2 measures of 4/4 :)

This is a really enjoyable reaction for me of an amazing performance. I think Tuomas intended to challenge himself in this composition because of his respect for Eugene Shoemaker. I'm guessing he took the development and production of this very personally; he seems to be that kind of person. I've watched every one of your reactions to this band and judge this to be your best effort. Love your analysis of the technicalities of the vocals as well as the instrumentation, but also enjoy your expressions, including facial, of surprise and pleasure in what you hear. Very well done. I've loved this song from my first listen, and now have even more appreciation for it and the band's talents. Thank you so much. Ron from the high desert of southeastern Arizona.

The Shakespeare spoken word part is done by Johanna Kurkela Tuomas's wife. I had to laugh when you talked about Floors agility. This is really the first album Tuomas has written with Floor & Troy in mind. They joined during the extended world tour in 2012-13. They were both on Endless forms most beautiful & Decades. I believe Tuomas was working somewhat on Endless forms while they were on tour and Decades was for Nightwish's 20th anniversary so it was all old songs. On this album he was like okay guy's vacations over. Floor said she got the lyrics for a couple of the new songs and called Tuomas and said something along the line of "you do know I need to breathe at some point right?" I believe your harpsichord is a hammered dulcimer. I like it when they incorporate more uncommon musical instruments, I'm still waiting for Troy to pull out a hurdy gurdy.

So, I am curious about a thing. I don't expect an answer from you, necessarily, but perhaps others here might have a response, too... How is your perception of music and where it is possible to go with it since listening to artists such as Tuomas, Floor, Devin Townsend and Dimash? I've found these particular individuals to have brought an immense expansion to the music universe I've known, and they continue to do so. How amazing it is to be alive now along with them! I've been a fan of Nightwish since 1998, just when they dropped their Oceanborn album. I've been a fan of symphonic/orchestral metal since. When they were on hiatus I was convinced they would throw in the towel, though since they stumbled into needing Floor as a fill in during a tour their music has grown so much. Tuomas will leave an astounding legacy behind, I think. Thank you for bringing attention to these amazing artists. It's what keeps me going, this. I'm trying to get my first ever full length solo album finished after years of deliberation and have been working on bettering my voice... which is pretty much how I found your channel this year. You're all so very much appreciated. Thank you.
