Rune's new cage is as natural as possible while still being a healthy setup that meets all the needs of a leopard gecko! What do you guys think? p.s. Hi im planning to get a hermit crab i know its going to be a challenge but i was wondering if you know what substrate works best
@dracumaura6 жыл бұрын
MissC 101 MissC 101 you shouldn't own hermit crabs at all because they're all wild caught animals and it's just not good to own them, they can get kinda big and they're social creatures so you'll need more than one ,which means an even bigger encloursure. the entire hermit crab trade is kimd od a bad scene :// it's really not recommended that you own hermit crabs, but if you really do want one and believe you can take care of them correctly, just do a ton of research before, look at multiple sources and try to find trustworthy sources, like someone who has owned them and done well with them for a long time.

@breezexotics6 жыл бұрын
Solid Gold Aquatics hey Jenny! I've tried Eco Earth out with my Leo for about 9 months now and I really don't recommend it! It's a very dusty substrate and I found it blocked her nose and the fibers would often get caught in her mouth when catching crickets. However, about 2 months ago I switched to Arcadia Earthmix Arid which is a fantastic all natural substrate that has no dust and can actually be healthy for the gecko to digest accidentally! It's also capable of growing plants like succulents. Toss in a few dermestid and darkling beetles and youll have a really nice bioactive tank that the leos will enjoy! This is how I did mine and they adore the substrate to dig much more active with better sheds. Hope this helps!

One video i would love to see is a realistic video on the costs of purchasing and maintaining healthy pets so that the inexperienced subscribers can get a really good feel for what they are getting into should they also choose to purchase a lg or keep a healthy tank. I see lots of videos on feeding all the pets or room tours but i never see anyone talk about the upkeep costs and since i work in a pet store i see first hand how many people dont know the actual costs and then they tend to try and cut corners to keep costs down which isnt good for the pets. Otherwise i love the information

its because upkeep costs and even supplies very dramatically from region to region. same reason you don't see people talking about it with fish. even hard goods vary dramatically. for example those exoterra vivs are 60% more in Canada than in the US.

I keep almost all of my receipts regarding pet related purchases and holy crap it’s a lot of money
@lilmisstrouble856 жыл бұрын
Cody McMillan i hear that but there is an average price range and you can always state "in my local city ... Costs are this...which may vary"
@cmcmillan226 жыл бұрын
well the problem is a lot of it is sponsored too, and you don't need a $175 exo-terra vivarium to maintain a healthy pet. a petco $30 29g long is plenty and a under-mat heater with some paper towl, 2 hides and a water dish. I personally don't see the value in it. explain their needs and let the pet owner decided what he/she wants to do.

I am constantly inspired by your love of animals, and it just plain makes me feel less weird for having 10 fish tanks, two cats, one human, and an unending supply of conversations with any bug, bird, or rando nonhuman I see. Don't worry the actual human is my roommate. Nothing devious people. As always thank you for continuing to be delightfully weird and showing people that if they choose to take on a pet... any pet, it is their responsibility to care for them and ensure a happiness in their new habitat. I don’t usually use moist hides because where I live it gets pretty humid in the summer but in the winter it doesn’t get cold so I don’t really need to worry about that but I usually dump a bit of water around the tank.
@dracumaura6 жыл бұрын
in your humid hide, you should also add some moss or damp paper towels ,just to help with shedding a little bit more ,with the moss they can rub against it to help get the shed off. it'll also just keep it more humid :-)

Hi! You have very nice geckos, and I love the new tank! I wanted to let you know that Leo's are technically crepiscular, not nocturnal, meaning they like to come out more during dawn and dusk. Also, I have read that their humid hide is supposed to be half on the warm side half on the cool side of the tank. I'm not saying that anything is wrong or anything, I just want you to be as informed as possible, since you influence so many others!!! Have a great day!

Rune is so cute, and his new home is such a beautiful setup! I love watching your videos and seeing what all you have accomplished in your fish room, I love seeing the transformation, and I'm a big fan of those custom backgrounds, they're amazing! I used to keep fish when I was younger, unfortunately I bit off more than I could chew and I was not prepared for how hard it really was. Now several years later I'm wanting to get my first reptile, but I'm hesitant because I don't want to make the same mistake I did with my fish. But watching your videos is not only a fun, informative experience for me, and not only do I learn a lot, but it also inspires me to be determined that I'm not going to give up when things get hard like I have in the past. If I had a bunch of goldfish that I loved and they all died, I would probably just give up and never keep fish again, but you didn't, and because of that you're a huge inspiration to me. :3 Anyway yeah sorry for the long comment I just had a lot I wanted to say. xD Also would you consider getting a crested gecko? That's what I'm planning to get, and I was just curious. :3

Rune looks just like my mack snow Leo Little Foot. “He” was found out to be a “she” recently through the leopard gecko forum. I just cleaned her cage earlier and have had her for almost two years. My heat mat is inside the tank under the reptile carpet because it wasn’t putting off enough heat through the glass. I switched from being an avid hamster owner and even bred them and watched all the channels here on KZbin but after my last hamster died I figured out I couldn’t handle anymore deaths and therefore have upgraded to a leopard gecko which is long lived obviously because I saw a guy in middle school with his and had wanted one since and finally talked my parents into it and convinced them that she wasn’t a “snake” lol and was quite different physically, obviously the legs would be number one but also the ear holes, eyelids, and a tongue that isn’t forked. I’m 21 but still live at home outside in a 32 foot camper so I still needed their permission even though I basically live in my own apartment out here. And I have a black moist hide that looks nearly identical to yours with wet coconut fiber or whatever it was that it’s called (the chunky stuff that you have to soak to break apart) lol. Anyways have had no health probs that God and am looking forward to many many more years to come enjoying her.

I’ve been meaning to look into further about switching to a loose substrate for my Leo’s. My beardies have been on loose for over a year. Loving Rune’s setup, can’t wait for Sylvias!
@DragonHeartAJ6 жыл бұрын
MX Exotics Lots of research and experienced leopard gecko owners and breeders will automatically say that Loose substrate is bad, no matter what it is. Now of course, don't take it from me, I'm still learning myself. But I've heard it enough to know it's bad. I've heard eco earth can get dry and Dusty, therefore your gecko will Inhale it. Misting it alot will also raise your humidity which also isn't good. I would recommend tile as will also experienced owners. It's natural, keeps in heat and is super easy to clean! Leopard geckos come from a hard, rock/clay type terrain anyways :)

I watched all of LeopardGecko Talk's videos before getting my little girl, Nora! I agree she is very credible and knowledgeable. However, I would strongly recommend you move the moist hide to be half on/off the heat mat, so the middle of the tank. Cold, damp environments could lead to a URI in these lil dudes. Also check out excavator clay! Maybe you could do Sylvia's tank with that and some slate tile? That's my plan for my gecko's new upgraded setup! Love you Jennie!! ❤

I use Hydroponic LED's on all my reptile tanks one because they provide great source of UVB, 2. Hydroponics LED arrays are dirt cheap approx. $35 for 200W, they are also stable they provide a great low temp without high illumination in fact its like permanent dusk during the day for my Leo's and then LED time switches too Blue at night, I then focus on using a ceramic heat lamp above and under floor matt for heating... this way you don't get huge temp variations between day and night. I also use a ZigBee Humidity/Temp smart device cost $12 tiny little Tile size device stick on side of glass, provides constant humidity and temp readings to android and IOS devices so you can monitor you vivarium while away, (Requires ZigBee Gateway cost $25), this is also works with amazons echo dot, through a skill so I can automate my monsoon and heat mat. Smart iReptiles!!

Could you do a bioactive terrarium? Like the whole setup with isopods and everything?
@flashofpink6 жыл бұрын
I looked into it extensively, but isopods and springtails (the insect cleanup crew) need a moist substrate, whereas leopard geckos need a dry environment. I couldn't find any info about cleanup bugs that liked dry environments. I have seen a partially bioactive leopard gecko setup that was done by having a small portion of the tank substrate remain moist. For me, I don't think it's worth the hassle. I don't mind cleaning up little leo droppings here and there. They usually pick one spot to do their business in, so cleanup is pretty easy.
