I agree...I have been a tropical fish hobbyist for many years, but I cant resist keeping and breeding goldfish especially Ryunkins. I think the difference is the breeding of these fish and the variety of colors and types that are produced. Also the fact that the fish require "handling by hand" for safe transfer creates a 'bond' that you cant get with tropical fish. Jenny...I enjoy watching your videos strictly for goldfish content - discus are a much different fish all together...they require much different care, beyond clean water of course...been there done that...favor the gold.

Japanese orderliness is a wonder to behold. It was fun to hear how the auction was run, it reminds me of how so many parts of Japanese life operate. As an outsider, I found it beautiful to witness but I heard that many Japanese find these regimented processes wearying. On the other hand, Japan feels like a country full of craftsmen and despite the industrialization of the last few hundred years, the craftsmanship has been cherished and cultivated. Looking forward to the next chapter. Thanks for sharing this with us all.

I'm so glad someone cares about goldfish like Jennie. She has probaly saved 1000s of goldfish from abuse. No wonder they wanted her to be on tv
@fishfool25447 жыл бұрын
Yes Sweetie please she has killed or culled hundreds of fish watch her vids
@DisabledPsychedelica7 жыл бұрын
Fish Fool The import part you're omitting is very interesting. Why has Mother Goldfish culled fishies? To spread further better genetics, which is very important in modified pets like these. Without culling the fish would die, either in a little kids home or possible breed by an inexperienced person spreading genetic malformations. So you either are for selling pets that will die or greatly suffer to children and hobbyists, which could spread more harm to other fishies genetically. Or you're for culling to save fishies from a horrible life, pain and their owns own grief.
@fishfool25447 жыл бұрын
Dæmon Græyson so I guess we should start culling children that are not perfect right ? We would be saving them a life of struggle in your opinion
@DisabledPsychedelica7 жыл бұрын
A million culled fishies is better than endless amounts of fishies that would die prematurely and have sever malformations.
@fishfool25447 жыл бұрын

Neat footage! Even though the individual clips weren't long, I thought it was interesting how my eye got quite sharply drawn to goldfish that might have had cullable conformation (tails held more to one side etc). It's a testament to how wonderful the overall quality of the fish was that the few weaker ones jump out of a group like that!

You can do a lot with Koi in a small space. My pond is only about 2000g and I am hitting 2ft+ with ease here. I am not too far from Fishy Business, so next time you are in this area you are free to check it out to see what you can accomplish in a small space.
@KoiBoy67 жыл бұрын
I live in FL and my temps a few years ago hit high 40's during a week long cold spell in winter, but otherwise we are not in a cold enough climate to worry about temps. Your depth will give some insulation for the lower temps, but not much. People I know in the northern areas typically build a frame over the pond and filters and run it year round just cutting out food through the winter time. The frame is covered with a few layers of clear plastic to create a greenhouse effect and their waters stay in the 50's during winter. The frame however does no good if you are in some bad areas where temps get too low for the greenhouse effect to take place. Over wintering inside is a better option in those scenarios. If you decide to go deeper, if you have a more formal pond build, consider placing sheets of foam insulation board on the bottom and walls of the pond (with some sand to fill cracks and make a level bottom) prior to installing the new liner. This will prevent heat loss to the ground temps based on your freeze line. It could also help improve the effectivness of a cover over the pond for winters. A great example you can find on Koiphen with a pond construction done by a user "BirdmanofCO". His pictures will show how to install it.

Do you know any places in California to get Oranda or Ranchu goldfish? They are so beautiful!
@greenfish607 жыл бұрын
Not sure of your price point, but you can get high quality china imported goldfish via auction at Dandy Orandas...obviously not local, but they can be sent through the mail. Not all are super expensive - depends on overall quality (type/size/form/color). I have seen the fish in person - they are awesome.
