FYI (for newbies): It is much easier to use a needle to weed with the smaller/thinner tip than most purchased weeders have. Simply empty the led from a mechanical pencil. Push a needle up into the opening while pressing the top (or whatever “button” your precise mechanical pencil has that releases the led) and once inserted, release the “button.” Some I’ve had to hot glue just a tiny amount to keep the needle in place. Now you have a “weeder” that cost under $1 to make & bonus- the eraser side is great for picking up tiny scrap pieces on the table

Hi Jennifer, Hoping I can trouble you with a question. I’ve done my fair share of etching tumblers with citristrip with fairly good success. However, I have NOT been able to successfully etch a light colored Yeti yet and I’ve damaged many. I’ve left the citristip on for times varying from 50 minutes to several hours to overnight and even tried the head gun with no success. I’ve just watched your video and am curious if you’ve been successful etching any light colored Yetis and what the “sweet” time was at which you found them to be most successful? Thank you very much in advance.

I followed this method and did a test patch on the bottom of a tumbler. I allowed the citrstrip to sit on this test patch for 50 minutes and the paint came right off the tumbler. So I cut my actual template and applied it to the face of the tumbler and let the citristrip sit for 50 minutes. At that point, the paint wouldn't come off, so I allowed the citristrip to sit for 10 more minutes, but still the paint wouldn't come off. What do you do in this case? Let it sit longer or just give up and try another tumbler? Once I peeled off my template, the paint was slightly etched looking, but it still wouldn't come off. So I was left with a tumbler that had a tone-on-tone effect.

I got great results with the Citristrip . I need some advice. The design I did on one side is a huge stylized firefly. I put rhinestones on the glowing abdomen part and I’m wondering does anyone think it will look unfinished if I leave most of it including the wings just the plain etched out look with the glowing butt part all glittery rhinestones with some that glow in the dark?

Hi. I’m new to cricut. And I’m wondering if you can use permanent vinyls for these kinds of tumblers? As I want to make some designs for these to sell. And will the vinyls come off of these tumblers? Or can we use iron on vinyls? Thank you.
@JenniferMaker2 ай бұрын
Yes, you can use permanent vinyls for tumblers, and they are generally recommended for this type of project. Specifically, Oracle 651 is a popular choice because it is a permanent outdoor vinyl that tends to adhere well to smooth surfaces like tumblers. However, it's important to note that even permanent vinyls may eventually come off, especially if the tumbler is frequently washed in a dishwasher. Hand washing is recommended to prolong the life of the vinyl. As for iron-on vinyls (also known as heat transfer vinyl or HTV), they are not typically recommended for tumblers. Some people have tried using HTV on mugs and tumblers, but the results are often inconsistent. The vinyl may not adhere well or may come off after a few washes. Additionally, the surface of the tumbler needs to be fairly porous for the HTV to melt into it, which is not usually the case with most tumblers.

You mentioned not to leave the citristripe on longer than 1.5 hours as the vinyl wrinkled. However, I had to leave the citristrip on these tumblers for about 2.5 hours. I used Oracle 651 vinyl and it really held up well. I tried the method using the heat gun and unfortunately, the vinyl almost melted and I had a real mess on my hands. I think I got the tin foil that was on top to hot and it melted the vinyl. Are there tumblers that you can recommend that won't take 2.5 hours to etch? TIA

With hand washing it should last for years.

Not sure what I am doing wrong but I am attempting the citristrip method .. using a powder-coated YETI.. i have tried 7 times.. exactly how the video shows.. 50 minutes ( i even tried longer a few times) and not once did it to ANYTHING to the tumbler.. not even a little bit... Completely bummed..

That's really strange. I would try leaving it on up to 90 minutes🥰🥰

Yes, I believe they've been used with Citristrip. 😊🌻

What is the best paint if you want to paint your own tumbler and do the etching?
@JenniferMaker Жыл бұрын
We haven't tried that, we've only used the pre coated tumblers. 😊🌻
