FYI (for newbies): It is much easier to use a needle to weed with the smaller/thinner tip than most purchased weeders have. Simply empty the led from a mechanical pencil. Push a needle up into the opening while pressing the top (or whatever “button” your precise mechanical pencil has that releases the led) and once inserted, release the “button.” Some I’ve had to hot glue just a tiny amount to keep the needle in place. Now you have a “weeder” that cost under $1 to make & bonus- the eraser side is great for picking up tiny scrap pieces on the table

Hi, I'm about to try a glossy tumbler and have all necessary items you spoke about. But I did not hear you mention the time frame to keep citristrip on before using heat gun. It seemed like you used it immediately after wrapping in foil and heated for a minute. Did I miss if you need to let it sit for 50 minutes or so before heating or can I heat right away? Thanks! Hi Jennifer, Hoping I can trouble you with a question. I’ve done my fair share of etching tumblers with citristrip with fairly good success. However, I have NOT been able to successfully etch a light colored Yeti yet and I’ve damaged many. I’ve left the citristip on for times varying from 50 minutes to several hours to overnight and even tried the head gun with no success. I’ve just watched your video and am curious if you’ve been successful etching any light colored Yetis and what the “sweet” time was at which you found them to be most successful? Thank you very much in advance.

I followed this method and did a test patch on the bottom of a tumbler. I allowed the citrstrip to sit on this test patch for 50 minutes and the paint came right off the tumbler. So I cut my actual template and applied it to the face of the tumbler and let the citristrip sit for 50 minutes. At that point, the paint wouldn't come off, so I allowed the citristrip to sit for 10 more minutes, but still the paint wouldn't come off. What do you do in this case? Let it sit longer or just give up and try another tumbler? Once I peeled off my template, the paint was slightly etched looking, but it still wouldn't come off. So I was left with a tumbler that had a tone-on-tone effect.

A friend was kind enough to bring me some Citristrip when she came to visit us in Toronto. There is some other brand here and no way of knowing if it would work. I got great results with the Citristrip . I need some advice. The design I did on one side is a huge stylized firefly. I put rhinestones on the glowing abdomen part and I’m wondering does anyone think it will look unfinished if I leave most of it including the wings just the plain etched out look with the glowing butt part all glittery rhinestones with some that glow in the dark?

Hi. I’m new to cricut. And I’m wondering if you can use permanent vinyls for these kinds of tumblers? As I want to make some designs for these to sell. And will the vinyls come off of these tumblers? Or can we use iron on vinyls? Thank you.
@JenniferMaker
@JenniferMaker 2 ай бұрын
Yes, you can use permanent vinyls for tumblers, and they are generally recommended for this type of project. Specifically, Oracle 651 is a popular choice because it is a permanent outdoor vinyl that tends to adhere well to smooth surfaces like tumblers. However, it's important to note that even permanent vinyls may eventually come off, especially if the tumbler is frequently washed in a dishwasher. Hand washing is recommended to prolong the life of the vinyl. As for iron-on vinyls (also known as heat transfer vinyl or HTV), they are not typically recommended for tumblers. Some people have tried using HTV on mugs and tumblers, but the results are often inconsistent. The vinyl may not adhere well or may come off after a few washes. Additionally, the surface of the tumbler needs to be fairly porous for the HTV to melt into it, which is not usually the case with most tumblers.

You mentioned not to leave the citristripe on longer than 1.5 hours as the vinyl wrinkled. However, I had to leave the citristrip on these tumblers for about 2.5 hours. I used Oracle 651 vinyl and it really held up well. I tried the method using the heat gun and unfortunately, the vinyl almost melted and I had a real mess on my hands. I think I got the tin foil that was on top to hot and it melted the vinyl. Are there tumblers that you can recommend that won't take 2.5 hours to etch? TIA

I want to etch a Yeti for my DIL, but I’m super scared that I’ll mess it up. It’s the limited edition breast cancer awareness 30 oz rambler. Cost me a penny. Im going to do mine first to practice. What font did you use for Jennifer? Btw, great video as always.

If I have multiple tumblers to work on, do I need new water in my bucket for each one? I'm assuming yes but hoping no.....
@JenniferMaker
@JenniferMaker Жыл бұрын
No, I don't think so, the bucket of water is more for rinsing the citristrip off rather than uncovering the design and washing the tumbler.💗

I've seen some other youtubers who let the vinyl cure on the tumbler overnight before applying the citristrip, have you tried this, and if so, do you see any benefits?

When removing the vinyl stencil did anyone pull up some color with it? The only was I can think to describe it is like speckled pieces of color came up leaving silver looking kinda like sprinkles of salt. Sorry not sure how to describe it.

Hi jennifer love your youtube videos, wonder if you can help as the web is very confusing. I live in the uk and all our card is graded in gsm not pounds like the USA, can you please tell me what 65lb card is in gsm, I want to make your Christmas Angel, but think my card is to thick. I think there must be many crafters out there that would love a conversion chart. many thanks kate

I’ve used the citristrip the only problem I had was small pieces of vinyl moving or coming off like In a letter & it did take a while for it to lift powder coating

Interesting, it gives a better finish than using a laser engraver, and zero electricity, the downside is that i have to discard the vinyl, for bulk is not that effective, but it's a nice way of giving a vinyl cutter another use

After the cups are done, I noticed you said not quite dishwasher safe. With hand washing and good care, how long should the designs on the tumblers last? Will the powder coating continue to come off from around the design after awhile of use?
@JenniferMaker

With hand washing it should last for years.

Not sure what I am doing wrong but I am attempting the citristrip method .. using a powder-coated YETI.. i have tried 7 times.. exactly how the video shows.. 50 minutes ( i even tried longer a few times) and not once did it to ANYTHING to the tumbler.. not even a little bit... Completely bummed..
