NEW UPDATE - CHECK OUT PART 2 GOES IN DETAIL FOR ALTERNATIVE BEARD OPTIONS :)
• DOLLAR STORE SOCK GNOM...
ALSO - if love gnomes like I do...check out the gnome wreath option:
• Gnome wreath (shopping...
Simple gnomes made with socks and rice. SUPPLY LIST BELOW 😊 Most items bought a dollar tree. To make his nose rosy put some blush on it.
UPDATED: If your worried about bugs in the rice, wheat or beans, throw the grains in the freezer for up to 30 days (30 to 60 days is ideal) and any bugs or bug eggs are supposed to be killed by the cold. We use a similar idea to store grains for long term storage and were told this was the best way to keep flour, rice and other items from getting those pesky flour beetles in them.
I have investigated the pros and cons in using food items to weight down crafts - please read the above concerning rice filling. You can switch to kitty litter which before anyone comments its not safe around pregnancy - I have looked into that also. It is the dirty used kitty litter that is unsafe. It is cautioned not to change the litter...clean litter in a sock does not contain the toxins described in the detailed caution about pregnancy and litter.
Thank you for enjoying my first tutorial...will share another one soon :)
SUPPLY LIST

2 cute adult fuzzy socks prefer 2 different designs

4" cone or toilet paper roll or rolled card stock

While watching someone else I saw a neat trick when adding another glue stick put a little hot glue on the end before inserting it in gun and it will stick to the existing stick works good

Thanks Jenny. I made 32 these for my husband to give to his customers year before last. They were a big hit. Last year I made the sock snowmen for him. This year I chose to make the gnomes again 32 of them. They are in my opinion are the cutest little guys! Thanks again for sharing your idea.

I thought this was so cute, just had to make some. So earlier today I stopped at the dollar tree and got my yarn at Hobby Lobby (used my coupon). I just finished making one now so now I'm going to do the opposite socks with the second one. I hung a tiny strand of bells on my little guys hat - I didn't have any buttons. Thanks for the idea. These will make a great gift for my neighbors with Christmas cookies! :)

Perfect first video! You had all your supplies available, your speed was perfectly paced, you even saved time by providing the finished beard. The angle of the camera was perfect for your viewers to see everything clearly. The Gnome is an adorable project that can be done by most. I can't praise you enough for your first video. I have been watching others that were too slow paced, they didn't have their supplies available & had the leave their work spot to get things. I look forward to watching your video to come! Well done AAAAA Plus!

UPDATE Nov 26, 2018 THANK YOU, for all the amazing comments! I do read all the comments & respond when I can. I also take the criticism as a means to improve my channel. Some don't like the music in the background...don't worry I won't do that again...remember this is my FIRST video ...I like to work with the TV or radio on. Length of videos are getting shorter, I bought a mic to help you hear me better...and voice over seems to be the way to go...I can delete my unnecessary babble. Also if your against using rice or a food source for stuffing...you don't have to...there are alternative choices. I don't make money or have sponsors here. I simply enjoy sharing and communicating with those who enjoy crafting. (all negative, or rude comments are deleted & blocked). Happy Holidays to all my subscribers xoxo If you can't find the same yarn...you can use any fuzzy yarn, faux fur, looped ribbon, felting yarn...or even mop refills cut up. To finish him off grab your favour blush and blush up his nose ♥️ Hope you enjoyed my FIRST video salut!

Thanksgiving is always at my brother and sister in law's house and every year she always has a craft project planned for everyone to do and then take home. We've made cinnamon ornaments, window clings, wooden snowmen, etc. She even gets the teenagers to participate! This year she had all the supplies in various shimmering colors for everyone to make deco mesh wreaths. Even though some of us needed her help, they all turned out beautifully and I now have a beautiful wreath to hang for the holidays. She is always looking for new ideas of things we can make, so I'm going to send her the link for this video. These little gnomes would be so cute sitting under the Christmas tree, hiding among the presents! :) Thank you for making such a wonderful and easy to follow tutorial!

Very nice video well done...I agree with the price of faux fur...it was over $25.00 a yard on sale!!!!...on the other side of the store they had smaller pieces...enough fur to make 4-5 gnomes for $3 and change...still nice quality...Note I learned you need to cut this faux fur with a razor...it does a lovely job and doesn't destroy the fur ends. I like the way you put raffia on the waist...I have made a few...but put a pipe cleaner (chenille stem) into the sock so I could bend the end into a shape and stuck a big red bell on the end...these are really cute thanks for sharing.

I made them! Mines a little different I used reg knee socks from Walmart that were $4.97 for 8, but different patterns. I also used kitty litter and only 1 sock body. I didn't use the styrofoam cone (couldn't find any that weren't expensive) so my socks for their caps folded over and tied in 3 places, the 1 part kept it folded over the 2nd part held a puff ball made from battening in place with the last tie. I did use clear rubber bands and string in pink, black & gold from Targets dollar crates. I used quilt batting (it's what I had) glued to white felt for the beards, I used a clear baby rubber band to tie the bottom of the beards to add character. Since my socks were cotton I rolled the length part for the hat on the base so it looked cuter than just gluing it. My 1st 1s didn't look so good for the hats so I cut a scrunched type sock in 2" and glued the piece over the hat, it looked cute. My practice ones I used the short sock for the hat, but tied it in 3 places and used batting to keep it up. I bought some long Christmas mini garland and cut the branches in 1/2 and made little wreaths to put on the hats. I didn't glue it in she they want to keep it out all year long. I read these guys are good luck. Finally I would never had made these if it wasn't for you, and I thank you for the inspiration!! :D P.S. After Christmas socks are always on sale, I'm going to stock up for next year, the fussy socks I couldn't find, so I'll be able to have more time to prepare them. I might even want to do a craft fair or 2 up here where I live? ; D Are you on Pinterest or Twitter? You have a new fan!! THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WITH US, hehe

As the title of this is Christmas Gnomes, instead of the buttons, you could use the small (button size) Christmas trees, wreaths, or rustic bells. anything that fits with the season (stars, snowflakes, etc... just make sure they are no larger than the buttons she's used here). Great video, not too fast, not too slow, great first one - well done! Remember, people can always rewind them and pause if need be. thanks for sharing, these are great! Wonderful gifts for teachers, mailman, pet groomers, anyone you need to give a little something to and want something unique. You can also add a few drops of essential oils to the rice as you're pouring it in if you want to 'scent' it... peppermint, cinnamon, etc. (don't over do this!) :-) Have fun!!

These are truly adorable. Thank you for taking the time to show how you make them. I have a suggestion for you on the Styrofoam cone bottom. Have you tried using a melon ball tool? I've used a melon baller tool on other Styrofoam projects and it works great to hollow out areas. It both cuts and scoops the Styrofoam at the same time. I also find it makes less mess. Hope that works for you!

I love the way that You made his beard!!! I am not 100% sure on this but I think that yarn is called Eyelash yarn or string. Faux fur would never look as GREAT AS YOUR ISEA!!! I think and noticed it first as the most adorable part of Your ADORABLE CHRISTMAS GNOME!!! Thank You for sharing Him! I LOVE HIM AND ABSOLUTELY, AM GOING TO TRY TO MAKE HIM FOR AN ADDITIONAL GIFT IN MY GIFT BASKETS THIS YEAR. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! 🎄🦌❄️☃️

I have been looking for a great video for a beginner at making these I'm a visual learner I can read patterns all day and still mess something up, I do much better with videos. I can slow the video play back down to a slow pace and really see it much better, so thank you for your great video's I will post a picture of mine when I get them done

I loved your tutorial. I made three last night. Could not find the yarn so i just hot glued fiber fill onto a piece of felt. Looks great! I also could not find the cones so I used toilet paper rolls. Love these little guys there are so darn cute.
