@@JennySmithRollsOn Jenny, are there key points that the public needs to know about people with SCIs? Seems to me, that people with limited mobility are by and large simply invisible to most "normal" people.
@JennySmithRollsOn3 жыл бұрын
@@Quadflash This is a loaded question! It seems like we’re either invisible (in a negative way) or stick out like a sore thumb. I’d love to just have people see me. At the same time, I think it’s important for others to understand that there are underlying issues that make life more difficult with SCI. I don’t want to be treated differently because of it, but just given some grace on a rough day. Here’s are links to an article that sum up what I hope people can learn and see: jennysmithrollson.com/what-do-you-see-when-you-see-me/

By way of introduction, I'm an old, retired guy. I'm on the Board of Directors for a small Charity in British Columbia -- Recreation Adapted Society or just RAD. RAD will provide adapted outdoor equipment for adults with mobility issues. We hope to fill a gap between Rehab and best possible recovery. RAD also will provide educational resources for mobility-limited folks. RAD is still immature. But, we're gradually working towards more efficiency.

Regarding foley catheters, there are way more cons to those, and if you are sexually active, they interfere with that as well. Plus if you are prone to UTIs, there are much more with those. Botox also causes paralysis and if you have partial paralysis of the bladder...there is a chance of the shots causing total bladder paralysis.

Hi Jenny- I am an OTD student and happened upon your videos and just wanted to say that you are inspirational! Thank you for sharing your experiences about life post SCI. I think it is amazing that you are so knowledgable about your condition and advocate for others to learn more about it. I NEVER post- but just had to for you! P.S- we SHOULD be normalizing bladder and bowel movements!

Jenny, I have been noticing the on the last few videos your volume on your camera is low.
@JennySmithRollsOn3 жыл бұрын
I think I need to upgrade to a real camera and mic. :/ It’s just so expensive.
@morgancalvi66753 жыл бұрын
@@JennySmithRollsOn I'm not sure the volume is the issue. I have noticed you breathing deeply in between sentences. I know you broke C5? but 2 vertebrates up and 2 vertebrates down will also be effected. C3 controls diaphragm use.

Hi jenny. I have spina bifida. I can walk pretty good I have a slight limp but I'm not in a wheelchair. I have some issues with my feet, legs bladder and bowel. I use single use catheters which is easy for me but obviously a bit of a pain the good thing about those is I've not have a UTI for a few years. My main issue is my bowel. I struggle to go more than once a week without help. Longest I went without going was 3 weeks. Increased my fibre intake which makes me worse. I'm currently taking macrogol laxative daily which is very good but without that it my bowel basically doesn't work nothing else seems to work.

hii thank you for this vid I'm a nursing student just have a question , when you have a fowler catheter do you knw when u want to pee?

The answer depends on a person’s level of sensation. If the Foley is draining properly, the bladder will never be full. Therefore, there would be no sensation of a full bladder. If the Foley is clogged or kinked, urine will collect in the bladder. For someone with no sensation, like myself, I will only know that there is a problem because a full bladder would cause autonomic dysreflexia. (I have a video on autonomic dysfunction and autonomic dysreflexia). Other people may have enough sensation to know that their bladder is full. Great question!

hey jenny, i’m a quad 5 years out who currently has an SP tube. out of curiosity, what issues were you having with the foley that caused you to switch? i’m currently reevaluating my options as i want to value by long-term health above all else.
@JennySmithRollsOn2 жыл бұрын
Thankfully, I wasn’t having any issues with the Foley. It was the recommendation of two doctors to have the Mitrofanoff to avoid bladder cancer. I love not having a tube attached to me!
