When I was younger, I never really appreciated jazz. I'd always hear the guys in the corner of fancy restaurants, just cruising away with their instruments. It's only now that I realize the immense amount of talent required from each musician to play anything remotely close to this. It's truly mind bending how they can all mesh together in a slightly chaotic, melodic and beautiful manner to create some of my favorite music. Great admiration for Jens Larsen, I'll never be able to play like him, but it sure is inspiring.

Great drummer not just because of his chops. He not only listens but watches Jens and his body language. He anticipates when Jens emphasizes a phrase or does a call and response line and is right there with him emphasizing a snare or cymbal. GREAT drumming.

Holy crapping christ. I'm really impressed by all three of these cats, but my heart has to go out to the drummer. It's been a while since I've seen an old-head this fly behind the kit. Amazingly responsive, hip, and "in it". Truly inspiring.

I remember going to a jam session and seeing the opening band with a drummer that could be a great grandpa who absolutely destroyed the kit, and far louder too than any of the young guys.

Let me know when you get a chance... From all of the KZbin lesson type videos by a lot of great players - I find your videos to be the most organized, clearly explained creative - and show your deep knowledge of jazz, guitar, theory/harmony, etc. I used to be a jazz guitarist... and, a pianist, until a couple of years ago, when I decided to go back my first love - guitar... anyway, let me know how to get in touch so I can give you much more detail... maybe you will be able to suggest a path forward for me`- perhaps by becoming a student of yours 🙂 ... (just a tiny tidbit of my background which is just me showing off - I studied guitar w Mick Goodrick, Barry Galbraith and Jim Hall ( all decades ago) .... and I haven't played at all, not even once did I pickup a guitar for the last 3 decades until about 18 months ago... (I was doing jazz gigs part time on piano that whole time) so it is weird - I forgot nothing - it all came back to me pretty fast but I can't really execute my ideas because of the lack of chops that happens when you don't play for so long. Maybe send me a friend request on Facebook so you can hear some of my classical piano playing. You can find me Nicholas Wells in Carmel NY - originally from NYC

@@ThomasFaller They are tottally different instruments, Sheraton's maple/walnut neck gives it a much more mid focused character. At the time i had a great deal on a Gibson 335 which i could also afford (i waited tables for 3 months, more than 9 hours a day, to buy a guitar that i could rely on. Good memories...) and i compared the two. I fell in love with the rich mids of Sheraton and bought it with no second thought. If i had bought the Gibson i would have bought it for 1/5 of its price, i decided to buy the Sheraton for 1/2 of it's price. Jens I notice you play your Ibanez in a lot of your videos. Here you're playing your Sheraton. What's your overall evaluation of the Sheraton as a Jazz instrument? I of course always play before I buy. first impressions are not always accurate I have found as I've bought and sold lots of guitars. I really like your playing so respect your opinion, And it looks like you've had this guitar a while now.
@JensLarsen9 жыл бұрын
30yrpro The sheraton was my main axe for a few years and among other things I recorded the 2nd Træben album with mine. I am very happy with mine, but I'd have to admit that the Ibanez is a class above it in terms of how balanced it feels and built quality. When I was looking for my Epiphone I tried more than 20 before I found the one that I liked, mine is Korean built guitar from 2000. It is a VERY cheap guitar and really good quality for the money but you do need to change the pick ups IMO. Does that answer you question? :)
