this one was especially helpful, so true that practicing this is easier over static harmonies

Yes it makes much more sense if you don't have to resolve before the chord changes every bar :D

Hej Jens. I eksemplet med Ab dorisk, har du skrevet at det er det samme som en F durskala. Bare et heads up, så du kan få det rettet.

This sounds amazing too - do you know any artists who do this a lot for guitar? It sounds Cosmic
@wadsmitter5113 жыл бұрын
Most jazz and fusion guitarists do this. The king of playing outside would probably be Allan Holdsworth. Check out his solo on "The devil take the hindmost"

Side slipping is a very common device to play outside so that is not so surprising 🙂

Thanks for the lesson. Question - shouldn't the key signature of Gm7 have an Eb in it?
@JensLarsen6 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome! Well Yes and no, the key if G minor has two flats, but Gm7 is not a tonic chord 🙂
@Ubersil6 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. So the tonic here is F major or D minor?
@ricknelsteel4 жыл бұрын
@@Ubersil It's Gm dorian mode so yes 2nd mode of Fmaj

when you show the Ab Dorian scale it says ( in fact an F major scale) surely it ought to say an F# major scale ( or a Gb major scale) ?

+Opiekun Dps Patience is important when learning
@opiekundps88068 жыл бұрын
+Jens Larsen I have another problem which I discovered yesterday Basic three major scales are ionian, lydian and mixolydian, what happens when we mix them together? We get nine-point scale c,d,e,f,f#,g,a,a#,b How to play under major chord C major using this scale? Which of these steps will be the fifth/dominant? F# or g (which is the sixth' in this scale) Which of these steps will be the fourth/sub dominant? F or f#(which is the fifth ' in this scale)
@JensLarsen8 жыл бұрын
Opiekun Dps That's just a scale with some passing notes. You are better off trying to get good at playing C major scales and understanding what a key is so you don't run off with unimportant synthetical constructions like this. Don't mean to sound harsh, but you are potentially wasting your time by getting lost in pseudo theory with this.
@opiekundps88068 жыл бұрын
+Jens Larsen "...scale with some passing notes". Passing notes...but if I play in lydian ,passing note is f and if I start play in ionian then f# become passing notes... The same with sounds b and ais . Right now I dont have guitar so ,I spend time on theory :)
@JensLarsen8 жыл бұрын
Then spend time on analyzing music not coming up with vague constructions. You will learn more...

Been trying to figure this out for a while. My ears are picking up on it. I think I hear a lot of players ascending in key and descending outside.
@JensLarsen2 жыл бұрын
I think that is not something I would make a rule 🙂
@spookylaundry33262 жыл бұрын
@@JensLarsen I'll keep that in mind. Probably feels a bit cliche once you're able to jump in and out of key without thinking too much about it.
