In the last six months, I have bought a lot of boots on eBay and a lot of them that I purchased are excellent. In the beginning I bought two pair Dan post boots at a store full price but after listening your commentary on looking for boots on the budget I purchased boots on eBay like j.b. Boot ,J Chisholm boot, imperial boot, Texas brand, yeehaw cowboy boot, then I saw them on eBay for $200 and I bought four pairs. Some of the other boots I got there 100 to under 100 and they all great boots. Thank you very much for that advice Pete.

I'm glad to hear your stance on abilene boots I did some research on reviews and it was a very hit and miss brand it seemed like I've had opportunity to pick some up and pasted cause I didn't feel it was gonna be worth my money. But I will try a pair out and see how they hold up.... I really put wear on my boots since I only wear cowboy boots I rotate but even quality brands of mine take a beating.

I've worn most of the boots on this list. I purchased Ariat Terrains for riding. They fit great and they're comfortable. What's more, they double as a hiking boot. I wore these for a 10 day, 150 mile horseback safari in South Africa and they're amazing. Half the people there (coming from all over the world) had the same boot and for good reason. Not sure how the other brands stay in business.

I was in Houston recently. Went to Cavender’s Boot City. Bought a pair of Ariat ‘Boss Man’ sport boots $179.00 retail. Liked the looked and fit. they’re comfortable and breaking - in nicely. Breaking in quicker than my Ariat Hertage Ropers.

My favorites are these; Cavender's women's brass with black crystals fabric inlay square toe cowboy boots (made in partnership with Old Gringo). Yes, I just picked these ones up as my first everyday wear non safety square toe boot, that are truly leather inside and out save for obviously the stitching and black crystal inlay and the cushion under the leather insole. I've always had the Ariat fatbaby heritage dapper, and Laredo round toe boots plus my Redwing composite tuff toe boots and Durango square steel toe boots. I've been watching Jeremiah's videos on leather boots with no textile materials and decided go to Cavender's again and got the; see first pair; as I'm slowly trying to move away from as much textile materials as I possibly can plus, as I found out, the true leather boots usually run true to size than the boots made of textile materials mixed with the leather. And as I've concluded, the leather is way more comfortable on my feet as with normal shoes/boots I have to wear arch supports or 3d printed insoles with arch supports; see Redwing. The leathers were even comfortable straight out of the box and very little break in where the boots, save for my Redwings' and Durango's, had to be really broke in. And as with any boot made of leather, they need to be cleaned, conditioned, and if you want some form of water resistance- use mink oil or a silicone type spray. The Cavender square toes I got for 194.75 (I did do the survey from my last purchase and got 10% off). One day, I intend of either trying to get intouch with our one custom boot maker down in Denver or fly out to somewhere like Texas and have a pair custom made.

I live in Europe and it is very hard to get a good fit. I have a pair of Sendra boots and they had to be streched a bit by a cobler. Here they don't have half sizes and no different widths. I actually wear 8,5 D and I can get either 8 or 9 and the width is around C. But I was lucky enough to find a seller who was offering a dozen pairs in my size, american made. Most brand new or barely worn. I got a pair of Laredo, a pair of Olathe, and two pairs of Tony Lama. I am just thinking about getting two more pairs from them, one by Tony Lama and one Justin. They are also all pretty different in color and texture. They also have rounded toe which I prefer instead of the pointy toe :)

I am a Lucchese guy but I have 4 pairs of Ariats. I just bought a new pair of double down caiman belly boots from Ariat. They are incredible for the money. With my Veterens Day 20% discount they were just over $400.00. I recommend them whole heartedly. Ariat has the comfort part of boots licked. They are almost as comfy as my Lucchese's. I'm getting ready to order a pair of Lucchese Charles Ultra Belly Caiman in black cherry. No other company does black cherry like Lucchese. I will let you know how I like them.

Not surprised Ariat got so many votes. Most everyone that wears them here all have Ariat and I own two pair myself. There actually isn't anything wrong with my first pair. Just my first pair were pointed toe and they started to hurt my feet. I bought a pair of square toed boots and just haven't looked back. I get that if you want that western look that pointed toe give you that more iconic look but the square toed boots are just so much more comfortable. My second pair also are steel toe which at work I am always banging up my toes in some fashion or the other and they have saved my feet so many times. They were actually a half size too big but I get a lot of bang for the buck. I am on a concrete floor for around 10 hours a night and the only real wear I get is where I bang up my toes and the heel gets a little rounded on the end from walking but I had them for about a year and they are in good shape too. Of course I do clean them with saddle soap and treat them with mink oil. Then I take out the insoles and put some copper work insoles in them changing them out often. I only work at a gas station but being on that floor 10 hours on your feet working is a lot harder on shoes them some might realize. Ariat boots have been real good to me. I wear them both at work and everyday use. I even go hiking in them. The only break they get is I don't use them when mowing to keep all the grass off them.

Hey Jeremiah I just bought my pair of custom boots. Um they are a bit loose at the heel, like my heel goes up an inch above the insole below and it's very awkward. Sorry if im saying something which is stupid but I've heard heel slip is good and my foot will form to it or something but it makes me feel my boots are loose, even the toe box extends from my toes. Please is there anything I can do to fix this or should I let it be this way. Sorry for the rant.

If you are going to rate cowboy boots, talk with actual cowboys, horsemen, ranch hands, male and female. These people understand what it takes for a boot to provide the comfort and durability to sustain the lifestyle they have chosen. Many of the brands you discuss have not made the cut. I spent 60 years riding, training horses, pushing cows, and living the cowboy life. The boots that supported me were Anderson Bean, Rios of Mercedes, and others of that ilk. High functioning, long lived, comfortable, stylish, and recognizable by my peers. This type of foot wear stands on its own (no pun intended). To put this in perspective boots, like Tony Lama, Justin, and Dan Post are typically entry level boots for working hands. The people I rode with insisted on top quality saddles, hats, and boots. One long departed friend frequently noted that a true hand had several months wages tied up in the right hat and boots and pennies in the clothes in between them.
