Danny used to annoy me when I first started watching professional matches, but now after 5 years I would say he's probably my favorite. He's just got a good vibe about him, observational but not overly critical, and most importantly, when he gets proven wrong he admits it and gives credit where it's due. That last part for me is the most important. Many commentators will dig in their heels when they were clearly wrong, it's just arrogant. Danny is relaxed, smooth, and just seems to be enjoying the game. He doesn't overly value his own opinions. He very rarely seems full of himself, only occasionally but it's usually humorous when he comes off as a bit cocky. Just a great personality to have on the mic. And of course Jay is great too.

Danny was also a world class boxer in his younger days. He didn't pick up pool til later on. Plays all games well also. He's been a real grinder his entire life.

CJ let me tell you something…I recently just got back into pool. I used to spend hours in the pool hall. Hanging out with the hustlers and local good players…gambling etc. I played pretty decent….then the owner of the pool hall passed and I quit playing for about 7yrs. Just started back… Man is my stroke off…I can make balls, but my speed is way off…also…haven’t been shooting for awhile…the repetition of getting down on a ball and racking. Ugh…you feel it a little. So I’m getting back into shape. Eating better…stretching etc. trying to get my game back. Your videos are definitely helping. Trying to get a game where I can play with anyone. Just wanted to say you’re awesome CJ…keep it up!!! And if you’re ever up in PA…let me know…I’ll take the 7 and out 🤣 Travis

This posting is :55 seconds into the video... Jay Helford and Danny Diliberto on commentary (yes!) and two Texans, neither of whom I have seen play before. This is like sitting down to a full course meal for me! Thanks for posting. I'm working my way through the whole Championship one game at a time. I'm about to take up 10-ball and guess where the best lessons are? I'm sucking this up like Keith Richards doing a 2 foot line of coke. XD Guess who just recently retired and has a fridge full of Guinness Black Lager?

I really like Jeremy's game. Great fundamentals: He gets down on the ball great. Smooth strokes and such a pure follow through. He's not flashy but that's okay!

I had too look who the commentator was when he said he gambled with CJ, and CJ and his partner didn't want to step outside with him. Danny Diliberto used to be a professional boxer with a record of 14-0-1 with 12 knockouts. I guess he trained with one of Muhammad Ali's trainers. Danny had to retire from boxing because he broke his hands several times. Danny's trainer said he would have became a World Champion in boxing if he didn't have the problems with his hands. They knew they didn't want to get in to a fist fight with Danny.

So refreshing to see two players that respect the game and make an effort in their appearance. One caveat about that compliment though; Jeremy could lose at least an inch in the length of his slacks and he not only looks like he slept in his shirt because it's very wrinkled, his shirt is half ass tucked in the back and not tucked in in the front. So even though he has good clothes, they don't fit correctly so he looks disheveled and dumpy. It always surprises me when I see players that play with long sleeve shirts or sweaters. Why not dress in short sleeves ? Much less likely to foul on a ball and give up a game to the opponent. So many men professionals I see on KZbin playing in matches and they dress like they couldn't give a "S" and perhaps they don't. But it doesn't do much to help promote the magical games of pocket billiards. Side note: disagree with the commentator who said, "he's got no one to blame but himself for what's happened referring to C.J." Jeremy got a lot of lucky rolls going for very difficult shots snookering C.J. a large percentage of the time.
@BladeRunner-td8be
@BladeRunner-td8be 4 жыл бұрын
I think I heard them say C.J. had ten years off from playing while he was running businesses in Texas. If this is correct C.J. is playing very good imo. When people stop doing almost anything they invariably will not be as good, sometimes not even close. I took 20 years off from playing pool after playing intensively for 25 years (just bar table play) having reached an advanced level of play, not professional and I couldn't make a medium to long shot consistently for quite a while. I couldn't believe it. It's NOT "just like riding a bike" even the smallest error in everything that goes into the game will cause a miss. And also the muscles needed to play pool will atrophy making it all that much more difficult to play well. C.J. during his prime was literally a world beater. His table presence / confidence is also top notch. I always marveled at the way he grips the cue; it seems so natural to me albeit it looks "weird". But his hand position on the cue is perfect all the way back and forth through his stroke.

It’s only 8-6 right now but I have to say now, . The commentary is very good! This is the best I’ve heard from Jay Helford . Love ya Jay but commentary is not Your best gig.(just my opinion) Maybe working with Danny is the magic ticket. Just had to take this opportunity to say something decent, I am very hard on commentators. Nowadays (for me ) it’s Earl Strickland and Jeremy Jones. (probably not together)
