Jeremy Roenick scores last goal at Chicago Stadium, April 24, 1994

It was the last season at Chicago Stadium, and the Blackhawks trailed the Maple Leafs 2-0 in the best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals, the first year of conference-based playoff seeding. The Hawks won the third game 5-4, but they needed to win Game 4 to ensure there would be at least one more game at the Stadium. Thanks to Joe Murphy, Tony Amonte and Jeremy Roenick, there would be a sixth game as the Hawks won 4-3 in overtime. However, because the Hawks were shut out in that game, Roenick's goal was the last Hawks goal at the Stadium. In fact, the Hawks were shut out in Game 5, as well, before bowing out to the Leafs. This is the original call but not the original video (it's a Blackhawks Classic).

I was working this game as an Andy Frain usher by the Zamboni entrance. There were so many people in front of me against the glass I couldn't see a thing. All I could see was the upper level on the other side of the rink. When Roenick scored that goal, I saw the entire upper level jump at once and it felt like the Stadium was going to come crashing down around us. The memory of that ROAR together with the goal horn still gives me chills...

Gregory Smith I was 14 when this game was played, was on the second balcony and yes it felt like we were gonna crash down to the first. Still gives me chills as well. Good times!

Wish I could of been there! I was 14 at home and couldn’t even watch it on tv thanks to Bill Wirtz. Listened to Pat and Dale on WMAQ 670.

@John these are the players I remember. We were lucky to get the teams in the 2010s but these 90s squads have a place in my heart. Too bad they were on Hawk Vision. Sad.

One of the greatest Pat Foley calls! One of the best play by play announcers who captured the enthusiasm of playoff hockey. "As the Blackhawks returned from the dead!" Classic!

Thanks for posting this video. I've seen a few others online, but not this quality. I remember listing to this game on 670 ( I was 14 and couldn't afford to pay my parents for Hawkvison!) what a great call by Pat Foley.

Hi Jeff, do you have this entire game? I was there with my dad and we were on TV a couple of times. Would love to show him if it's posted. I looked but could not find it.

The Leafs could have drafted Roenick at the '88 draft, but passed him over for Scott Pearson! Way to go, Leafs!

Do you have the save that Potvin made (Overtime or late in the 3rd) in game 2? I remember Foley was apoplectic.

I remember watching this game on “Hawkvision” which was a pay per view to be able to see home games on TV lol. I loved going to hawks and bulls games at the old barn with my dad and brother as a kid. I still miss that old place, there was nothing like it, especially nowadays with all the cookie cutter stadiums.

Roenick didn't score the last goal in the stadium. It was Mike Gartner on Apr28-94

You do know Felix Potvin had three 1-0 shutout victories in this series? And a 1.67 GAA and .940 save percentage in 6 games. And this was against a guy who at the other end in Ed Belfour had won 2 Vezinas in three years and 3 Jennings trophies in 4 years. Don't make a generalization of the level of goalies back then based on one goal. Not to mention, you can see how much smaller the goalie pads were compared to today.

Aaron Fleshler Sabres horn? The Stadium had that horn long before the Aud did.

The horn in the Chicago Stadium was installed in the middle of the 1982-83 season. The horn in the Memorial Auditorium was installed just before the start of the 1987-88 season.

Aaron Fleshler wrong! Same brand “Kahlenberg” but not the same model, the horn sounds different here than what it sounds now today at the UC Originally louder I’m assuming Installed around 1984-85
@skifusya2814
@skifusya2814 6 жыл бұрын
ChicagoBHawks773 Correct, the Stadium horn definitely had a bit different sound and more punch than what is at the UC today. The earliest I heard it was the January 9, 1983 game against the North Stars, but it was not there at the December 19, 1982 game against the Kings. So, installed somewhere between those two dates.

skif usya good to know! I wonder if it’s the same one or just a newer model I don’t know much about them but I’m sure the air compressor or solenoid valve makes up the way it sounds Still a good piece of history regardless
