How he had that emotional breakdown at that dusty empty lot next to the dumpster while confessing his sins to Shiv and Roman-that was a true masterclass in acting. He deserves all the awards for that.

He told a story about preparing for that scene. He had read it and couldn't figure out how he was going to do it. He got so stressed, he went into his hotel room in Italy, where this scene was filmed, and put a "do not disturb" sign on the door. He just got more and more stressed trying to figure it out, he was emotionally exhausted. So, by the time they were filming the scene, he said that that experience ended up helping his crying breakdown. I was mesmerized by that scene. The level of vulnerability that Jeremy brought to Kendall, seeing Kendall at his most broken, was nothing short of jaw dropping. I could feel his emotions so strongly, it was intense!

Daniel Day Lewis is his hero and you can really tell. its crazy the depth to his performance as Kendall, the attention to detail. it all feels so right and natural when you're watching but if you go back like you say and really pay attention to his performance you realize just how much work he has put into it

@@jasongreen6826 I went to college for theater. I have been doing it my whole life and i played John Merrick/Elephant Man in The Elephant Man last year and was Hal in the play Proof to name a couple. I am in the process of putting together a website now and I have a video reel with some footage from plays I have been in. A couple of weekends ago I took an online zoom class with the casting director of Blade Runner and Mean Girls, her name is Marci Liroff. That's it in a nutshell. I have wanted to pursue acting essentially my whole life. Oh also I was an extra on Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's third season.

He is a great actor. Method acting was lawys interesting to me, it has a lot of cons and pros, but if it works - it works. Jeremy knows better than anyone how he can deliver best acting performances and he proves it time and time again - so there is nothing else for us to do than - be happy we get to see the end results.

Succession's definitely drama. It's drama with comedy, like the Simpsons is a comedy with drama. People were saying the same thing about Breaking Bad, "it's a dark comedy." It has dark jokes but it's drama by its age-old definition.

I know this is coming late; but, I just want to add myself to those who admire Jeremy Strong's commitment to his work. How an artist approaches his/her craft, I would imagine is a very personal, and immersive process. I'm sure that's true for every medium: painting, composing, writing, as well as acting. Some may be perfectly able to put on/take off a character, and give an outstanding performance; while others find what works best for them, is staying in character, and 'being' that character - even when not in a scene. Every artist has their own 'method'. Anyway; just my two cents. (And, in looking at your catalogue; I'm glad to be a new subscriber.) :)

@davidlean1060

Not to yuck your comment, but Hoffman, despite his troubles in life, seemed like a much more fun guy. There's a bit in the Magnolia making of (its called That Moment. It's here on youtube) where Anderson is 'taking the mick' out of Hoffman for his approach to a scene. 'This is how Phil would do it' and he does a bit where he stumbles around the set, pretending to overact. Both men are in knots laughing. Stong is a superb actor, but the issue seems to be he couldn't switch off in between takes. You get the impression he'd not be laughing as hard as Phil if Anderson was mimicking him. Again, not to yuck your comment, but the only comparison to be made is they are both great actors and unique looking. Neither guy looks like a 'movie star', but both guys are so captivating, you have to look when they do their thing.

Well as an actor myself, i must say he's right. This is the best way to make your character real. And it's not always easy to take your character off like an outfit when you leave the set. Brian Cox does it probably more easily as he's more experienced.

It really depends on the actor. I feel like whatever works for the individual is the right choice. Some actors feel they have to connect in this way and others don’t. The path of an artist is a very unique one 🎭🎬

it makes sense why they cast a Shakespearian actor to play Logan - this huge, almost mythical, larger-than-life figure, but similar to what we have already seen in other great TV shows. As for Kendall, this new type of insecure, vulnerable, erratic, deeply wounded, doomed-to-fail protagonist that we haven't yet had that much in popular TV or films, Strong's method acting is just perfect.

That story is just a story. Hoffman was going through a divorce and had been partying the previous two days. The torture scene was done early in the morning and Hoffman looked wrecked. What Olivier meant was he wished Hoffman only had to pretend, rather than having to go through some real life trauma to be in the state he was. Olivier was actually sympatizing with Hoffman for having this terrible interuption in what should be a fun creative time, not mocking him.

he's a terrific actor and all but to me he was not a good casting choice for Succession: to me he barely can pass as one of Logan's children, he looks so different than the rest of the family and from his supposed siblings or other relatives (Greg, uncle Ewan)...at first I though he was Marcia's son or that he was working with Logan as his "adopted" right hand, something like the part Robert Duval played in the Godfather...
