Fire, loss of limb, necrosis, etc, that sends you into shock, which is what typically makes you lose consciousness. But this is a minor corrosive agent that gets injected into your localized cells and bloodstream. I can imagine how you'd still be awake through the experience, but suffering immensely.

If memory serves, I think its off the NW coast or NNW coast of Aus. Here in the USA we also have a similar species of jellyfish and when they come to the CA coast for same purpose, our government will close the beach and put up warnings. The dude in the video was only hit by a small toxin inflicting pain through the nervous system in the local area of the sting. If he had not taken his hand away and was actually stung by the many needles the jellyfish has, then the deadly toxins would have kicked in; those being toxins that are injected into the circulatory system.

While a wet suit may seem to not be enough to protect someone from the venom, it’s actually very effective since the barbs in the box jellyfish’s tentacles aren’t strong enough to pierce through the material of the wet suit.
