Tim Burton returns to direct this sequel to his paranormal cult classic comedy! Does it hold up?....or at least justify its existence? Here's my review for BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE!

Michael Keaton is 73 and Catherine Ohara is 70. They are incredible! It’s really nice to see Hollywood giving great older actors good roles and not just old grandma grandpa crap.

Agreed, Catherine O'Hara is just stunning as an actress no matter her age, and I'm not just saying that being grew up on her either. She still look good, so does Micheal Keaton. Hardly doubt many of today's talents would even be considered veteran status long enough by the time they're long gone (and dat's on St Mary's womb).

That's how I feel. It's a fun time but it could have been improved. If we can't have the Maitlands back, we should have had some return to form say with the ghost kid introduced earlier on having to navigate the afterlife then find out his sinister agenda later on or something. I wanted more of Monica Belucci's character too. Been watching other review videos and a lot of comments all seem to agree the plot is all over the place and has cringy moments that don't need to be there.

It reminded me A LOT of Bill & Ted 3.. A sequel to a movie (or movies) that was wholly unnecessary... but you could tell everyone involved had a blast making it, and watching it, you did get caught into that infectious rum and happiness. Bill and Ted 3 was way smaller scope and streamlined than I was originally hoping for, just like this. The characters were not Identical to how I remember them... but it's a sequel decades later and they make it work for the characters. the Children characters of the mains, work extremely well... and all in all it is a super fun super well crafted movie with a lot of heart... that maybe doesn't stand on its own, and reach the classic status as the OG, but will always be a solid Double feature. That lives up to the legacy of the OG
@TeamForwood

I agree because I actually enjoyed Bill & Ted Face The Music,but it's not as good as the other 2 especially since they completed their legacy in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. The only reason for it to exist is to make movies about Billie & Thea
@jamespetkwitz8737
@jamespetkwitz8737 Ай бұрын
@@TeamForwood it exists for the same reason this does.. because all the creatives behind it all wanted to get together and have fun. You can tell Tim Burton, Keaton and crew all wanted this to happen, and they all seemed to have a blast..and it has been talked about now for like a decade. Bill and Ted 3 was talked about by Keanu and Alex Winter for decades.. it was something that they, and the writers have always wanted to do.. and it just showed with how much fun they were all clearly having.

My wife and I liked it. The main problem I personally had with it was how some things were left unresolved (especially the cell phone scene (those who saw it will know what I’m talking about)) We also like that they didn’t hold back on the gross out humor. Most of all, we appreciated that there were still practical effects used rather than CGI for the most part.

Willem Defoe added so much humor and charm. He was needed. Albeit, if not only for a punch line. The soul sucker chick was unnecessary but it did give Betelgeuse more incentive for his actions. I think this sequel didn’t miss. Especially in a time of over-saturated garbage reboots, everyone can tell that this movie put in the effort to be exceptional and not just a sequel cash grab off of a beloved IP. I know in part this is due to the dedication of both Michael Keaton and Tim Burton. It was very well done and you never mentioned the STAND OUT performance of Catherine O’Hara. Every time she was on screen she brought “LOL” moments for the whole theater, akin to her performance in Schitt’s Creek. She was a gem to the comedy aspect, along with the aforementioned Willem Defoe. I love it, I’m glad it exists, im elated with the effort and love that went into it, and as much as I’m an advocate for new content and not just sequels and redos, I’m more than pumped for: BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE

Everything about this movie was perfect. I love the familiar vibe, atmosphere, and comedy. Everyone in the cast did great. Tim Burton’s direction was spot on. The references to old Italian cinema really made my day. And the little nostalgia baiting showing the down and the models of the first characters briefly was a great little touch. Also, fucking Bob! We all need homies like Bobs in our lives! The writing was funny too, I’m not sure if it was intentional or accidental but all of the references to the dad, and how brutal they actually killed him in the film. And lines like “he went out doing what he liked watching little birds” had me laughing tremendously throughout the film.

Looking back and rewatching, I legitimately can't figure out why I ever liked the first Beetlejuice as kid. It's creative, original, and colorful - or at least the production design is .... but so what? Is that enough? It's not even a kids movie. I don't know. What even are the rules for Beetlejuice? What does he want, other than to be gross and pervy? Don't take that as me being offended, it's funny and Keeton nails what he was going for - but it's also a lack of characterization in a movie that doesn't have much outside of the character. If it's a gem, it's uncut and in need of polishing. Which - actually is probably something Beetlejuice would have said about himself.

I liked Beetlejuice 2 but it definitely had too many plot threads going at the same time and as mentioned the first half I didn't really know where we were going. It kind of felt like they had 4 different stories they wanted to tell and ended up cramming them all into 1 overstuffed story. It was a fun ride and I enjoyed it but if a few things got cut out I think it would have been a better story. I really liked the feel and reveal of the middle of the movie antagonist. The chemistry felt good and accurate for what the characters were supposed to be. I also like the use of their only f-Bomb in a PG-13 movie and how it tied up this plot thread. I wouldn't be surprised if some people thought it was rushed, and I agree but the theater laughed out loud and I was with them. I don't think this movie needs a sequel, but a spin off with Astrid could be neat. Maybe a short run Netflix show or something. It is well established that there are other ghosts in the world and some can pass as regular humans in the right circumstances. Seeing her having to deal with the fact she can see them now would be interesting. Not saying it should be made, but if they were going to make something more I think that would be the best fit.

Okay okay, the plot was convoluted A.F. but I still had a BLAST watching this, and honestly that's all I'm hoping for when it comes to 30-year-later sequels.
