Jesus Christ it's 2021. People STILL don't get Steve fucking Vai ... "Flashy".... No. Vai plays the way Vai plays. He moves the way he moves. Makes the faces he makes... Cus he has to. He can't help it. Normal people clearly can't hear that there's more "feeling" and emotion in any single solitary note from any piece of his, than most artists entire catalog. I feel sorry for you people. No one sounds like Vai. People may try. But you can blindfoldedly spot Vai out of an infinite number of players, easily. Fast does not mean "fast" or "flashy".. nor tapping or "tricks". Fast is an explosion of emotion if done by the correct artist/one that knows the science of music on a level you have no idea one can. How many other guitarists spent hours daily doing creativity expansion excersizes? Or sitting back to back with Satriani as kids, one plays a chord the other has to guess the color the player is trying to express. No one's better than anyone when you're virtuoso level. They're all just as gifted in their own unique ways. But for the record... Vai would be the unique one.... How many techniques that expand your ability to express yourself of the guitar has Goven invented in his life?

GG: 0:20 - 0:38 That is some of the sassiest guitar playing I have ever heard. That melody will be my new ring tone.

Joe always plays in a more sonorous way than anyone in G3. It's not about the amount of notes.

Satch is the OG. He’s taught all the legends. Imo the greatest of the greats.

1:32 - 1:43 I know I'm not the only one who thinks this is the sweetest phrasing in the entire piece?! I just want to bathe in that :)

There's a long history of haters to Mr Vai. But sometimes you have to understand how great he is. He ended he's part then opened the gate for he's best friend perfectly as if laid an open feild for him to start perfectly. I love guthrie too but I am just comparing how they end there part then open for the guitarist next to them. Compare the two

They all have their own unique voice on the guitar. Vai to me has the most distinctive voice on guitar because his influences are less obvious. At the end of the day, it's not a competition like some people believe- it's an art, expression.
