Yes! I was on an 8 year running streak, doing at least a mile for it to count. Unfortunately that came to a stop when I unexpectedly found out I had stage 4 colon cancer - I’d been an athlete my entire life, ate right, but it can happen to anyone. Turned out my diagnosis was genetic (lynch syndrome) and worth testing for if you have had a family member diagnosed. Sorry for the random /PSA I ran while going through chemo and most of treatment, only taking time off after surgeries. Two weeks ago I started my daily running again. It just feels right, and I’m even more grateful for just being able to do this simple activity - a life changing habit if you want it to be.

@@nics4967 ye but if were talking about running an ultra marathon just to finish then prob all the ppl that cross train physical training maniacs many prob from military field a not like a hyper exclusive field of people. Cuz if we try to get someone that can be truely competetive ultra runner and bench 225 thats obv not gonna happen.
@nics49675 ай бұрын
@dawidjasiak9646 225 isn't necessarily a competitive BP for powerlifting, so finishing a 50km would seem more comparable on the running side. Somewhat competitive like a Boston marathon qualifying time type level of ultra running would more compare to 315+ BP. A good chunk of the military can't run an ultramarathon or bench 225. Especially the latter is very difficult for women. But yes, a good amount of those that could do both would be members of the military.
@dawidjasiak96465 ай бұрын
@@nics4967 theres no woman on the planet that would bench 225 and be a capable good endurance runner let alone ultrai could bet my pinky finger on that. Biggest advise I would give to new runners is finding your pace. A lot of people hate running and stop because they push themselves too hard early on. I recommend finding your pace and then when you run more and more, you can start to push it. Personally I always start my runs slower and then really push myself the last mile or mile and a half.

strongly agree on this I just did my 53km Ultra in Thailand last June 4 and it was brutal. Out of 354 runners who signed up 98 are DNF’s luckily I finished it. The fact that I never ran a full marathon and immediately signed up for an Ultra is not a good idea. But with proper training and dedication plus mindset during the race is the key. Agreed. IT band issues are no joke. I started dedicating two days a week just to traditional strength training, and bought cheap bands to do some floor work with those throughout the week, or after a long run while watching tv or something. Since doing that - no issues. I also treat myself to a sports massage a few days before a marathon or ultra distance, and she focuses on that area. It’s always worth it, my legs feel ready on race day and I’m more confident as a result.

@XxOzzyBoyx Жыл бұрын
It varies a huge amount based on the specifics of the course you want to run. A lot of the races in my region have significant elevation gains, so it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll be walking 25% of it because it would just be waaay too wasteful in terms of energy to run the steep uphill sections. Also if you've got an area with significant technical (rocky and uneven) terrain you'll likely be walking slightly more because it's just difficult to navigate that at speed. Get a flat 50-100km on a good trail though and it's entirely possible to run the entire thing as long as you've taken plenty of time to understand your pacing strategy. With all that said though, the only competition is yourself and the time cutoff of your particular race. As long as you know how fast you need to be going to finish the event then you can walk as much as you want within that.
@Kelly_Ben Жыл бұрын
You'll most likely find the ultra easier to train for and run than the road marathon... and more enjoyable! Not being snide, it's just that trails in general are more laid back in attitude and atmosphere, and taking the emphasis off pace-pace-pace is freeing. If you can do a marathon, you can absolutely do a 50k. Best wishes!
@barefootbeachrunner9498 Жыл бұрын
Depends on the terrain and elevation gains plus the distance I ran a short ultra years ago on a very flat course 52km 2 years ago I ran a very hilly 60km and the last 10 km was mostly up hills which was a fast walk/slow jog at best

Many non marathon runners have worn down their knees, too. As a person with non running related damages knees, and degenerative disc disorder, my neck and knees hurt LESS when I'm running trail ultras.
