Egg Gunner actually but point still stands. It's pretty consistent of Eggman since Adventure 1 where his actions causes disaster for everyone. Half of 2006 wouldn't happen if not for him. It's just too bad he suffers from the same condition as Sonic in 2006 where he's not that relevant with the greater picture.

"But Shadow is marketed more as the leader." Maybe for Team Dark outside of Sonic Heroes, but in Heroes itself Rouge is absolutely the one leading the team. Even for Dark Beginnings, one could argue Shadow is more of a Field Team Leader while Rouge is the one who actually decides how to get things done and drive the team. And that's how I usually see them.

Yeah it gave some nice balance. Sonic (Speed) led Team Sonic Rouge (Flight) led Team Dark Vector (Power) led Team Chaotix Amy I guess is the de facto leader of Team Rose, but since they're the "easy mode", I'd say there's no real "leader" - they're just a group of friends whose other friends were last seen all together.

Rouge is probably the smartest sonic character. Like, yeah tails and eggman are tech geniuses, but not much beyond that? While rouge is smart with tech (hacking mainly, also makes her own bombs) but also good at dealing with people, planning, running her own business apparently... like do you know how many skills you need to be a spy? Rouge probably knows a bunch of languages and would need to have shown she was good with guns and vehicles and stuff.

I’d advocate for moving SA2 up a tier. Not only did she make some of the cracks that allowed Amy to get through to Shadow, but by the end of it, Rouge managed to finesse the heroes, Eggman, and the UF GOVERNMENT with exactly zero consequences. And while I can’t speak on the post Knuckles fight scene, I can defend Security Hall. The bombs were set for fifteen minutes. She got the emeralds in five, leaving her 10 minutes to escape. However, Flying Dog taking up those ten minutes was a completely unknown variable until he showed up. Yeah Shadow had to help her, but I wouldn’t say it was due to a lack of capability. Especially since she solo’d a military weapon.

Except that in her final minute she chose to sit, slumped down, giving up on life. That's not exactly elite behavior. We had just played one of the best treasure hunting levels, fought one of the best mini bosses, and the flying spy chose to sit on the floor bemoaning the explosion instead of zipping around for an exit... smh. I was a traumatized teen when I played the game back in the 00s, and it was Shadow's gumption to keep going that made me prefer him over her, despite both of them being their own double agents.

Problem is that she never really gets to be the leading protagonist of a story. By that, I mean she's the one leading the plot and Shadow is the supporting character in here endeavours. Sonic Dream Team is the first time where she's not accompanied by Shadow. He's appeared independently from her but in all of her appearances, Shadow's never too far away from her including Prime and that's debatable because Prime Rouge isn't around for most of the series.

Loved this video! Rouge is my favorite character after Sonic. I feel like her role in 06 is so underrated by the fanbase. She is playable in more stages than any amigo character, has some cool and emotional scenes, has more lines than Shadow in his OWN story, and appears in more cutscenes than most characters (except Sonic, Silver, Shadow and Elise). I am glad they are using her more lately, probably thanks to her inclusion in Sonic Prime. We got her in Dream Team, lot of outfits for mobile games, Sonic Rumble, Shadow Generations, and a lot of merch including Funko Pop and Lego.

Always loved Rouge ever since i was a lil girl whenever I played Adventure 2, heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, riders and 06, she sticked out to me a whole lot more than like Amy. Rouge is not always playable in M&S, actually, she functions as a boss fight in most of the earlier entries. In Mario and Sonic at the 2010 Olympic Games on the DS, they have Rouge fulfill the role of being a character you exchange collectibles you can find in the overworld for olympic memorabillia that had been stolen. She just finds it all by herself, offscreen. On the other hand, Eggman and Bowser end up gaslighting her by promising to pay her to be a boss fight at one point, so you have to do a boss fight against her in figure skating. However, she does NOT choose the song with the Freddy Fazbear jingle, so she sucks in this game. Also, she's dumb for expecting Eggman to pay her because, big surprise, after you beat him he's broke as FUCK and after the boss she immediately apologizes cause she got duped, cause Eggman just runs away like a bitch when she asks him to pay her. At least she's allowed to hold a conversation with Shadow, you only get the option to contract her after you unlock him. In 2012 3DS, she's an opp for Peach and Blaze. Why? She got brainwashed by Eggman's Galaxy Gas and is now evil, brainwashed, high as fuck, and supportive of his plan to hotbox all of London. Which IS funnier but she's still kinda useless cause technically she's in a damsel in distress role again. She does deliver exposition, at least. I'm surprised she didn't interact with Wario and Waluigi. She's kinda useless aside from singlehandedly save a museum by herself.

Idk how to explain it but after Shadow Gen I kinda realized she's turning more into a bestie in Team Sonic and not an acquaintance in Team Dark. Like my biggest example is Sonic Prime they added Rouge as if she's always been Sonics bestie ig cause they couldn't find another Sonic character to fill in, but like she never interacts with Shadow and it's depressing to see especially when looking at them interact in Shadow Gen I think at this point they have no idea what to do with her so she's the last shoved in character to even out the roster since she's popular. Ik she's an anti-hero with her own goals but man seeing her turn into Sonics friend in prime with no reason at all is super weird

I don't have an issue with her hanging out with Sonic and friends. She's the mouth of Team Dark and the one who socialises with everyone else. Prime has a whole host of problems but her being with Sonic and others ain't one of them. Shadow and Omega will always be her homies but she's not chained to those two only. There's room for her being a Shadow centric character and an independent character who'll appear with others including Fang if they ever bring him to the Modern Era. She's like Snake from the Simpsons. She's mainly associated with Team Dark because we see her with them the most but she can just as easily pop up elsewhere and have a dynamic with other characters. Really, we just need to see that Prime interaction between her and Sonic fleshed more. Have a storyline where she's his companion for the whole journey. Play with the character pairings.

Can I just say I miss the old voice. Well the voice actress from Sonic X they brought to the games. That femme fatale, kinda southern (I think someone described it as a Luisiana accent), very seductive voice suited her a lot better than what the current voice actress does now. She sounds too… idk like “girly?” almost like a valley girl in some cases. And it really doesn’t fit her. And because of this I hated the line delivery in Shadow Generations after the final boss where she goes, “Whatever.” It came off as dismissive and uncaring where if it were the old voice actress it would’ve come off as an “whatever you say” line. Actually the only actress that did her right besides the Sonic X one was whoever voiced her in Sonic Prime. It was different but fitting. I actually liked the voice cast for all of them. Even Eggman was good despite not being Mike Pollock who HAS to be the voice until he dies. If they ever remake SA1-Heroes as like a special collection where they polished it and made it look and sound like modern games, the Prime cast should be the voices. They’re perfect for younger versions of the characters. A remake would be better so they can fix dumb scenes like Rouge falling to her death. Like have her be knocked out or her wings tied up. It makes no sense for her to be in any danger from a fall!

You are so wrong about everything. Her Sonic X voice actress, Kathleen Delaney, was atrocious as Rouge. She did NOT have the right voice for Rouge, it was too deep and it was jarring to hear her voice on Rouge since it’s nothing like what we were used to, plus her line deliveries were awful, and I would argue that the current actress, Karen Strassman is WAY more suited for Rouge than Kathleen. She has the right vocal pitch that matches the Japanese VA, Rumi Ochiai, which is how she’s SUPPOSED to sound. To me, compared to Kathleen, Karen has potential to be fantastic as Rouge. The problem with her voice mostly has to do with bad voice direction, but she showed she could do it right in Sonic Forces and Sonic X Shadow Generations: The Dark Beginnings. I can agree on disliking the delivery of the line “whatever,” but other than that, the rest of her line deliveries are good. Also, not only did the Prime voice suit her, but Lani Minella, the Dreamcast voice for Rouge, suited her as well. She had a unique and distinct voice that set Rouge apart from every other femme fatale character and made her character feel real. She gave Rouge this elegant, somewhat mature, type of voice that again, had the same pitch as the JP VA and the right youthful energy, and you can feel the emotion from her voice in many scenes. The Prime actress, Kazumi Evans, is not different from what we are used to, as she has the same voice style as Karen Strassman but a little deeper to give that sense of maturity to her voice. And if they ever remake the Dreamcast Era games, they shouldn’t get the Prime cast, they HAVE to get the original actors back (though a new kid actor for Tails and a new actor for Eggman to substitute Deem Bristow or just get back Mike Pollock) cuz the Adventure games and Heroes wouldn’t be the same without them. If not the Heroes cast, then they should get a new cast to replicate the old voices. Also, it DOES make sense for Rouge to fall to her death in Sonic Adventure 2 to an extent, as the lava vat opens and closes at random times and Rouge couldn’t fly up since bats can’t fly upside down. A scene where she gets knocked would admittedly make more sense, but it’s not completely nonsensical the way it is.

It’s arguable that she could’ve flown to avoid the lava in adventure two but if she was disoriented, as she was falling, she might not have regained her composure in time and regardless it was the right thing for knuckles to save her

Rouge can be one of the most versatile characters, if she gets the time to shine. The amount of work she puts in in Sonic X is crazy, and she is a perfect foil for Knuckles in terms of feats there.

While Rouge may be a rival of Knuckles in treasure hunting, it seems like Rouge has potential for being a rival for Tails in being the brains of their respective groups. Tails is the book smarts side while Rouge is more street smarts, with just enough book smarts to enable her sticky fingers.

Rouge was the least useless in Sonic Heroes. I had tons of fun playing as her in that game. Her spy outfit was stylish and she was very brave in that game! Rouge is a very charismatic heroine.

Kind of feel like you should have included Dark Beginnings in the Shadow Generations part since it is part of the story and includes more Rouge content. She does help him get a ship to go to the ark after all.
