E.g. if you're making a film about an African-American slave it is not considered discrimination to factor in the skin color of an ethnic Norwegian who might decide to audition. But, it would be discrimination if you judged that person not capable of the role based on infidelity in their private life. Previous infidelity in one's private life is not a factor when judging whether an individual possesses the competence to lead government. It is equally as irrelevant as skin color, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, who your ancestors were, etc. Those things are not relevant when determining competency. If you consider irrelevant factors of a person, as a determining factors, because you personally find it distasteful, it qualifies as discrimination.

Rees-Mogg isn't saying that abortion is moral when Boris' lover has one, he's saying it is immoral but it's a matter between him and god. I'm perfectly happy to have someone make a distinction between the public and private. I'm satisfied if a person can respect that their religion shouldn't impose on others and that "we sinners" can nonetheless be good people and good leaders. This strikes me as wilful misunderstanding in order to try and score political points. It was like the attacks on Tim Farron who accepted secularism in politics but nonetheless had his own private morality. If he was a Muslim this might be labeled Islamophobia. You're welcome to dislike him for his personal morality but I think it's churlish to think someone unfit to govern simply because they have private values.

English people used be far more resilient...I myself have lived in London for 30 years and have on many occasions had my Irish ancestry referenced...in many case and with the same wording there was clearly no racist intent whatsoever and in some cases, and with less obvious words there was a very great deal of racist intent. That is why JRM drew attention to what is said and the colourful language employed by BJ to which no racism is attached. I do not see the SNP calling out Borris Johnson to any great extent nor a single serious African/Carribean etc. society!!! Not one. The factual issues are that there is way too much immigration to the UK...peoplle come to London to impose the cultures and if you had lived in North London you would see just how NOT integrated are the India cultures that have simoly taken over Wembley/Kingsbury. What you say is absurd. A politician's private life is of utmost importance to voters. If they cheat on their spouses, they will cheat on others as well. I think the main reason for these personal attacks and insults, as you've described, is because the panelists are thinking through emotion rather than logic. You can sense the emotions in their voice. I've experienced this at work when someone brings a lot of emotion into the room and it quickly descends into childish behaviours and really solves no objective. As for the hosts, I think they like to fuel this to make the show more entertaining.
