From this autumn, older people in England and Wales - who are not on pension credit or other means-tested benefits - will no longer get annual winter fuel payments, worth between £100 and £300.
A vote on the issue is being tabled next week, but several Labour MPs have publicly criticised the decision and may even vote against it.
Yesterday Keir Starmer had to defend his plan during Prime Minister's Questions...

@@annofcleavers5791 I do, and I agree it could be optimised to work better. That said it definitely has a part to play. Pensioners who are asset rich but cash poor are still rich. its unrealistic to expect current tax payers to foot the bill of a burgeoning pension and NHS bill to maintain an aging populating just so they canringfence the inheritance of their children.

No he's got it right, what he's got wrong is the threshold for receiving it. It shouldnt just be those on pension credit. There's plenty in need of it who aren't eligible for pension credit as that threshold needs raising! More pensioners should receive pension credit

I think lots of pensioners will be making a choice of not paying council tax this winter to stay alive with a bit of food and heating, rather than dying. At worst they could eventually be sent to prison, but lets face it that has 3 meals a day and is heated. With Labour emptying prisons of criminals released early, it's probably safer too.

£100 or £400 a year on the triple lock is nothing. When you look at France getting £1500.0 a month , what we get is a pittance. I've had a look at this we give india over 2bn a year which they shouldn't get , where india can afford to send a lander to moon, why are we giving this money. But no matter what Labour found to do with the books. What they said before the election and what they have done, is to me disception to those who voted for them. I was one of them which I regret . I dred what's coming at the end of October. The attitude of Labour how it changed after getting put in power is incredible. They just don't care about people, I won't vote again. Those who phoned in were the ultimate Thatcher attitude of being selfish. I don't care as long as I'm okay. If this winter turns out to be very bad those MPs who vote for this should really have this burnt into their consiense, for those who are freezing while they a nice and warm in their homes. What has England become?

Need to preference i think this is disgusting to, and i believe pensioners of course should get it!! However not sure what you mean by the Thatcher attitude, My late wonderful Dad died years ago 1999, and was already a pensioner by then 72, and he hated labour, loved thatcher, and told me never to vote labour, as they will always want your money, what you have! I never have voted for them, and he was right as usual! His attitude was, along with my wonderful Mum, who i have just lost at 94, was to work hard , and get money behind you, and property etc, so you can put your 2 fingers up to labour! I was their only adopted child, and their focus was always getting everything for me to have a good future, they saved and they planned, went without, all for me, so i get to have a good future, not sure how they did it! They were average people from poor backgrounds, with average jobs, but worked past pension age, no special luck! They were exceptional, and anyone could have done what they did, but most choose not to, i was so lucky to have them as my parents, they really did give me a wonderful life, and have left me a pretty good future, just hope the probabte goes through before that b...h reeves changes any rules around IT!!! Hardly think they had a selfish attitude, they are 2 of the most selfless people i have ever known, incredible what they have done over 50 years for their daughter, i have been very lucky!!

I am above the cut of - I pay two separate fuel bills my personal apartment bill and part of a communal fuel bill as I live in an independent living retirement development where the Fiume bill for last year was 52,000.00 stop thinking all pensioners are rich they are not.
