It's still over 100 here in AZ and I have been throwing a jerkbait for at least a month or so already. My favorite baits are Megabass, jackal, and duo realis. I have recently gotten into the bfs gear, and the eurotackle bfs jerkbait is a fun one.

I was catching the smallmouth pretty good yesterday on the lucky craft pointer 78 in the crack color ( bone chartreuse chrome scale). I pulled in close to 40 large mouth in the same spot but shallow (6 inches - 2ft) with the Berkeley 120 J walker MF bluegill color. Dropped my power pole on my kayak and casted to 30 foot log that blocked 40 % of the canal where they had baitfish pinned and smashed them for an hour and half 😂. Caught 2 pike over 38" also one on a ned rig lol, probably best day fishing ever number wise.

Matt . I rely on your genuine expertise . You cover every thing so well. What is the best knot fo tying florocarbon leader to braided line,? What size florocarbon is good for 20 lb braid? I know you said I should start with at least 30 lb braided ,but my pole is only 20 -25 lb test. unless I can use 30 lb braid on it , if so then what size florocarbon. I appreciate you helping me out. that line rating for the rod wouldbe fine with heavier braid. i like uni to uni knots as a connector but the FG knot is great as well

Jackall rerange is by far my favourite jerkbait. I fish around a lot of golden shiner, and the 130 size rerange absolutely crushes. It’s really darty. A lot of side to side movement, plus it rolls on its side. Rerange is my #1, vision 110/Jr is #2, Stunna #3, X raps #4. Vision 110’s are my primary for cold water. Duo’s are also really good jerkbaits. Looking forward to getting my hands on the Maverick. I am 100% a jerkbait connoisseur. 😂

Golden shiner? You fish in Florida? I want to really deep dive on jerkbaits but I rarely use them down in Florida

@@zachg5356 Canada actually. Spring and fall when our temperatures are in the cold side, jerkbaits are a key lure for us. I do especially well on small mouth in the Great Lakes. But the Largies definitely eat em well too.

Definitely have to start doing that more, change sizes. I’ll have days where I think they should be eating a jerkbait and I’ll catch couple or sum swipes, but never think to change sizes on those days where they’re reacting to a jerkbait but aren’t committing. Great tip.

Lots of good info but have a question. If you are fishing (not tournament)shallow 2-4ft rivers for smallmouth that get airborne at every chance would you go with a lighter power parabolic rod to keep pressure on or a MH-F and try to get them to the yak fast and take a chance the rod tip straightens out in the middle of a leap making slack in the line and they throw the bait? Most of the time the Dark Sleeper is the bait of choice but because the rivers are so shallow they will hit top water year around. Sometimes we just can't reel fast enough or move in a yak and we lose a lot of fish.
