Jerkbait Tactics for Summer Bass

Jerkbaits are a good lure choice anytime bass are keying in on baitfish - this pretty much means they’re an excellent year-round option. The critical aspect of jerkbait fishing is the need to vary your retrieve speed and cadence based on water temperature and activity level of the fish.

This video came in clutch yesterday.. I was throwing one down the banks of my canal with no hits but multiple followers in some spots...like 10 or so chasing. So I marked the trail to re-visit with something else today.

I use that same lure for speckled trout during the winter around rocks but its really a killer bait in August when the bass hang under the shady side of docks.

I have been doing the lure challenge. Where you go through your bait box and try to catch fish on a different lure every time you go out. I have done frog,buzz,walking, plopper, chatter, glide, crank, and now I am to jerk. This video gave me inspiration and tips for tomorrows day of fishing. Basically I cant move to my next lure until I catch at least 1 with a jerk bait. Tomorrow I will only bring my jerkbaits so i dont get discouraged and try something else.

Why florocrbon i prefer no stretch with braid u like a bit of stetch ?

With casting gear and treble hooks fluoro does help. Braid on spinning rod is no problem. Smoother drag helps with that shock absorption

You gotta keep throwing it. Eventually you'll figure where and when they want it at your waters. Its easy to give up on a new lure when you havent caught anything on it yet. I think with jerkbaits it's even easier to give up on em because of the way you have to work them.
